We live in Gisborne on the east coast of New Zealand.  We are proud owners of the Blue Pacific Beachfront Motel, situated right on the edge of the surf and sandy beaches, yet only a short distance from the centre of town.

Gisborne is a wonderful place, lots of sunshine, mild climate, and some of the most beautiful beaches you will see anywhere in the world.

The relaxed lifestyle and friendly nature of the people will make you feel right at home.

Gisborne offers something for everyone, from fishing (deep sea, surfcasting, river), surfing (a variety of good beaches to choose from), tramping or visiting Eastwood Hills (the local Arboretum), being part of Maori Culture and visiting the local Maraes, or observing our history in the local museum (why is a ship's bridge part of the museum?), or just doing nothing and enjoying our many sunshine hours and mild temperatures.

Yes! It's all here for you!

There are only three roads leading to Gisborne:-

Then from Gladstone Road take Grey Street to the beach, turn into Salisbury Road, we're on the left!

The Beaches

Waikanae Beach curves round Poverty Bay with the chalky hills of Young Nick's Head in the distance.

The Surf Club is close to the Motel, and this means safe swimming for the young ones.

For the surfers, the waves here are some of the best, and board riders travel from near and far to try them out.

If you just want to take a quiet stroll, the beach stretches before you with seldom another person in sight!

With the beach at our back door, it's pleasures can be enjoyed at any time.  (A stroll in the moonlight perhaps?)

Gisborne

The most easterly city in New Zealand, located on the East Coast of the North Island.

The Maori name for the Gisborne District is "Tairawhiti", which means "The Coast Upon Which The Sun Shines Across The Water".

Captain Cook first set foot in New Zealand on 9th October 1769 at Kaiti Beach, which is now part of the City of Gisborne.

To the Maori the area is known as "Turanganui a Kiwa", meaning "The stopping place of Kiwa".

With a yearly sunshine average of 2200 hours, Gisborne is one of the sunniest places in New Zealand.

Temperatures are mild, with summer temperatures seldom going above 30ºC, and winter temperatures usually around 15ºC.

Gisborne also has the shortest river in New Zealand, just 1200 metres in length named the Turanganui River.
