e.e. cummings

somewhere i have never travelled

somewhere i have never travelled, gladly beyond
any experience, your eyes have their silence:
in your most frail gesture are things which enclose me,
or which i cannot touch because they are too near

your slightest look easily will enclose me
though i have closed myself as fingers
you open always petal by petal myself as Spring opens
(touching skillfully,mysteriously) her first rose

or if your wish be too close to me,i and
my life will shut very beautifully, suddenly,
as when the heart of this flower imagines
the snow carefully everywhere descending;

nothing which we are to perceive in this world equals
the power of your intense fragility;whose texture
compels me with the colour of its countries,
rendering death and forever with each breathing

(i do not know what it is about you that closes
and opens;only something in me understands
the voice of your eyes is deeper than all roses)
nobody, not even the rain, has such small hands.

if up's the word;and a world grows greener

if up's the word;and a world grows greener
minute by second and most by more--
if death is the loser and life is the winner
(and beggars are rich but misers are poor)
--let's touch the sky:
with a to and fro
(and a here there where)and away we go

in even the laziest creature amoung us
a wisdom no knowledge can kill is astir--
now dull eyes are keen and now keen eyes are keener
(for young is the year;for young is the year)
--let's touch the sky:
with a great(and a gay
and a steep)deep rush through the amazing day

it's brains without hearts have set saint against sinner;
put gain under gladness and joy under care--
let's do as an earth which can never do wrong does
(minute by second and most by more)
--let's touch the sky:
with a strange(and a true)
and a climbing and a fall into far near blue

if beggars are rich(and a robin will sing his
robin a song)but misers are poor--
let's love until noone could quiet be(and young is
the year, dear)as living as i'm and as you're
--let's touch the sky:
with a you and a me
and an every(who's any who's some)one who's we
