Joshua Michael's Birth Story

Hi there, this is the birth story of my first born son, Joshua.
I found I was pregnant in June of 93. I was eighteen at the time and very nervous, yet really happy. At the time I was dating Josh's (and jake's dad) I thought it was "love". I've learned a lot since that time :)
I was really happy throughout my entire pregnancy. I was really one of those glowing moms-to-be. I was due February 14th, 1994.
During the last few weeks of my pregnancy my blood pressure was starting to slowly. He said I was still on schedule though. 2 weeks after my due date I was a little less glowing and set for induction on Feb. 21st, 1994.
I went to the hospital the night before to get a folley (I think that's what it's called) inserted in my cervix so that it would soften and open my cervix, since I wasn't dialated at all. It was uncomfortable, but I slept well that night. They woke me up at 6:00am the next morning to take a shower. I came back to my room and was taken into a birthing room at 7:30am. I was having pains, which were really mild, I didn't even realize at the time that they were contractions as they weren't really painful.
My doctor came in and took out the folley and said I was doing great and he was going to break my water. When he reached up to break my water however he found a foot! They did an ultrasound to confirm and indeed the baby was breech. They decided that I would have to have a C-section. I wasn't very nervous though. He told me to go to the bathroom and the nurses would prep me for surgery. I got up and had one of those funny pains again and asked if I was just getting cramps from the folley. He said "no traci!, you're 5cm dialated. You're in labour." I got really happy then..thinking man..this is easy! rofl
My mom and donovan ( their dad) came in and we watched tv for awhile. Then they came in and said I was ready to go. I opted to be asleep, since it was unexpected and they said it would be better.
I walked to the operating room and got onto the table...I remember lying there on the table..all of me exposed, thinking, "oh my god..what am I doing?". That was about my last thought before I went to sleep.
The next thing I remember was opening my eyes and seeing my mom. I closed them again and opened them and saw my grandparents. I didn't open them again until I was in the recovery room. My mom was there and told me that I had a beautiful baby boy. I was thinking, "What??? was I pregnant"...then it all came back to me.
I didn't get to hold him until about an hour or two later...but he was a beautiful baby boy. 8lbs 3oz!
And...like the others :) The rest is history..I could tell you about all the pain I went through afterwards, but I don't want to scare anyone..rofl :)
