1 store bought wooden Christmas tree app.. 2 to 2 1/2 feet tall, with a wooden platform base. Can be found in the woodworking section of your local craft store. We found ours for $5.99, plus, we bought early, so it was on sale for $3.85! Great deal!
Assorted paint brushes.
1 small saw, or hacksaw
Fine grit sandpaper.
Forest Green Acrylic Craft paint - app.. 4 fl. oz. - two tubes
White Acrylic Craft Paint - app.. 2 fl oz. - one tube
1 can clear spray lacquer.
1 yard Christmas Craft Ribbon
Assorted miniature Christmas packages, or small decorations, for base of tree - use your imagination.
Assorted craft buttons in red and gold
Tacky glue
With a tape measure and a pencil, measure 2 1/2 inches from the first right branch at a 45 degree angle. Repeat on left branch, then on each branch the length of the tree. One slot per branch!
Begin sawing each slot, you will need a helper to steady the tree. The slots must be app.. 1/16 of an inch wide, so greeting cards can slide into it easily.
After sawing each slot. Completely sand the tree.
Begin painting the tree with the green acrylic craft paint. Use a large brush. Two coats will be plenty. After the green has dried, pour a small amount of the white onto a paper plate. With a small brush, speckle the white paint on the tree, to resemble snow.
After tree is completely dried, spray the tree with the clear acrylic spray paint.
Decorate with buttons to resemble ornaments, using tacky glue.
Place miniature decorations, or packages around base of tree, secure with tacky glue.
With ribbon, form a bow, secure to the top of the tree with tacky glue.
Cards can be placed in the slots! A great place to keep the many, many cards that you receive!
