1755: Abner Vance was born about 19-Jul-1755, probably in North Carolina, but no birth record of any kind has been found. There is no proof that Abner Vance was his birth name, this is however the name he used in later years, so therefor this is the name we as ancestors of Abner Vance know him by. There is no documented proof as to who Abner Vance's parents were. There are however several possibilities as to the name's of his parents. One set of possible parents for Abner Vance is Ephraim Vause (Vance) b. 1715 and Theodosia Hewlings (Hulings) b. 1721. However if Ephraim Vause (Vance) b. 1715 is the Father of Abner Vance that brings us to another mystery, who was Ephraim Vause's (Vance's) b. 1715 parents. There is no known record of Ephraim Vause's (Vance's) b. 1715 birth, or who his parents were. There is a lot of information about Ephraim Vause (Vance) b. 1715, and what he did during his life, but nothing to document where he came from. Theodosia Hewlings (Hulings) b. 1721 however is a different story. Theodosia Hewling's (Huling's) b. 1721 parents have been documented, as well as her marriage to Ephraim Vause (Vance) b. 1715.

Another possible set of parents for Abner Vance b. 19-Jul-1755 is Samuel Vance and Sarah Colville. Personally I do not think that Samuel Vance and Sarah Colville were Abner Vance's b. 19-Jul-1755 parents, this does not rule out that they weren't, just that I don't think they were. My personal belief is that Samuel Vance and Sarah Colville were Abner Vance's b. 19-Jul-1755 Aunt and Uncle. There is no proof of this, it's just my personal opinion.

Another possible set of parents for Abner Vance b. 19-Jul-1755 is Matthew Vance and Unknown. I believe that Matthew Vance was the brother of Samuel Vance that married Sarah Colville, and if Matthew Vance is the Father of Abner Vance b. 19-Jul-1755 then my theory that Samuel Vance and Sarah Colville are his Aunt and Uncle would be correct, however no proof of this has been found. Abner Vance b. 19-Jul-1755 and Matthew Vance both swore the oath of allegence to the Commonwealth of Virginia at the same time in May-1777, so they at least knew each other, therefor I think they were related.

Another possible set of parents for Abner Vance b. 19-Jul-1755 is Benjamin Vance and Unknown. I doubt that this Benjamin Vance is the Father of Abner Vance b. 19-Jul-1755, but I have been told that he was. Benjamin Vance was suppose to be from Tennessee.

The sheriff was ordered to perform the execution on 17-Jul-1818 between the hours of eleven in the forenoon, and two in the afternoon. During the trial there were three bills of Exception taken to the opinion of the court, The first bill stated that John Chandler, one of the venire, being called and sworn of the voir dire, stated in answer to a question by the court, "Have you made up and expressed an opinion on this case?" Chandler answered that he had not heard the evidence or any part of it, and that he felt no prejudice against Abner Vance and believed he could do the accused as much justice as anyone. After which Vance and his attorney challenged Chandler and insisted he was an unfit juror. The second bill of Exception stated that Vance introduced his daughter, a witness, to prove his insanity. The attorney for the Commonwealth objected to the evidence.
