September brings about a new technique for me, the use of sponges instead of brushes. How this came to be is very interesting. Several days ago while watercoloring at one of my usual spots I conversed with an elderly gentleman by the name of Wilson who was watercoloring there. He used big sponges and a big surface to produce a very striking picture. And he encouraged me to use sponges. The next time I went to the same spot. I found that he had left behind one of his sponges. "For me?" I wondered. Now I kept the fragrant, paint moistened sponge in my box. Simultaneously, the children got into my box opened all the tubes and squirted large amounts into the tray which dried a little and I left it there. Of course the brushes needed to be washed after their foray into my art supplies and so I left the brushes soaking in the bathroom sink. Thus, next time I went out to paint. I found I had only the sponge and a tray full of paint. And so I used the sponge to produce the first two works on this page. and of course the new music is that of Claude Debussy. Ciao!
