E-mail: roovel@aol.com A girl with long blonde hair, walked through the beautiful park, in the morning. She was trying to understand why her boyfriend broke up with her so suddenly. Was it her looks? She thought. Or wasn't she smart enough for the smart, good looking Darien Chiba? Whatever it was, she wanted to find out. She looked around and walked to a bench to sit down. As she sat down, Darien passed her. "Darien!" Serena exclaimed. "Huh?" he turned around. "Hi, Serena," he said, eyes like two rocks, showing no emotion. "I was looking for you." "Really?" she said, her hopes rising. He sat beside her, but not to close. "I'll be leaving Tokyo soon," he said simply. "What? Y-you're leaving? Because of me? I'll change, Darien. Please I'll change," she pleaded. "It's not you," he said in his hard, cold voice. "I just want to start a new life." "New life?" she whispered. "Good bye, Serena," he said leaving quickly before she started crying. "Darien! Don't leave me!" she cried. But she knew it was no use. He was gone. Eight years later... The cafe was crowded for this time, as it was lunch. A woman with long blond hair took a note-pad and a pencil and walked over to a table to serve two men. She wore black jeans and a white blouse which was the dress code for the female staff. "What can I do you for?" the woman asked with a friendly smile. A man with dark hair and blue eyes looked up to meet a pair of friendly blue eyes. "Serena?" he said, standing up. "Darien?" she said with a smile. "Darien!" she said, hugging him. "Long time no see!" She giggled. "Ahem," the other man at the table said as he stood up. "Oh. Meet Greg Urawa," Darien said, gesturing to Greg. "Greg!" "Serena?" She hugged him. "Haven't seen you in ages either," she said with a smile. "Nice to see you after so long." He smiled. "You two know each other?" Darien asked, surprised. "Yeah," Greg said. "I used to go to Juuban with her." "Serena, what's taking you--" Lita cut herself off as she realised who Serena was serving. "Darien," she said, in a some what unfriendly voice. "Lita!" Darien said. "Didn't know you came to Australia." He smiled. "Well, if you haven't noticed, this cafe *is* called 'Lita's Cafe.' "Oh! Okay. So you opened this. Nice place." "Thanks." "You remember Greg? Don't you Lita?" Serena said. "No, I don't think we've ever met." "Oh. Oh yeah! That's right. Greg left just before you came." "Nice to meet you," Lita said, extending her hand. "Nice to meet you, too," Greg said as he shook Lita's hand. "Time to get moving!" Lita said. "Customers are waiting!" "So you came here for a business trip?" Serena asked Darien at the bar table where she was drying glasses and he was drinking a glass of soda on the other side. Most of the crowd had gone, after they had eaten their lunches. "Hmm," Darien said, sipping a bit of soda. "What business?" Serena asked. "I'm a doctor and I have to go to the Children's Hospital in Westmead." She nodded, understanding. He always wanted to be a doctor, she thought. "*Where* do you have to be? "Westmead." "That's far from here," she said. "This is the city. It takes 'bout forty minutes from here." He smiled. "You know a lot about Sydney. When did you come here?" "About two and a half years ago." "Oh. Did you graduate?" "Of course I did!" she said, slapping him playfully with towel she was drying the glasses with. "I took up a music course, passed and now I am a music teacher at P.L.C," she said, drying the glasses again. "And I work here on the weekends and some afternoons." He nodded. "What does P.L.C stand for?" "Pymble Ladies College. A private school." "Oh," he said. "What grade do you teach?" "Grade one." Darien nodded, understanding. She was always good with children, he thought. "Hey, Serena," a man with black hair, tied back and blue eyes, said who was beside Darien. "Hi, Seiya," she said with a friendly smile. "Serena! Serena!" a cute little girl said, running to the other side of the bar. Serena picked up the happy girl, dressed in a short pink skirt and white t-shirt. She had light brown hair and bright blue eyes. "Hey, Katie," Serena said, with a smile. "How are you?" "I'm fine, but better now!" "Kat," Seiya said, "leave Serena alone." "I was just greeting her, Daddy. Who's that, Serena?" Katie said, pointing to Darien. "This is Darien, Katie," Serena said. "Darien, Katie." Katie extended her small arm from where she was carried by Serena. "Nice to meet ya, Dari!" she said with a giggle. "Nice to meet you, Kat," Darien said, reaching for the girl's hand and shaking it. "Darien, this is Seiya Kou, and Seiya, this is Darien Chiba." "Nice to meet you," Seiya said, shaking Darien's hand. "Nice to meet you," Darien said with a nod. "Seiya is one of the teachers at P.L.C," Serena said. "And this is his daughter." Darien nodded. "How do you know Serena?" Seiya asked Darien. "We were friends back in Tokyo," Darien said. Seiya nodded. "What would you like, Seiya?" Serena asked him as he sat down. "Coke thanks," he said with a smile. She set down Kat and went to fill a glass of Coke as Lita walked in from the kitchen. "Hi, Seiya," she greeted. "How've you been?" "Fine, thanks. You?" "Not so bad. Business running well and all," she said with a smile. "I *never* had a crush on Greg, and never will," Amy said as she entered the cafe with two girls trailing behind her. "Yeah, what ever," a woman with long blonde hair said with a smirk. "Serena, I never had a crush on Greg did I?" Amy said as she sat down next to Darien, but didn't notice him. "She did! Didn't she?" a woman with long black hair said as she sat beside Seiya. "Of course she did!" Serena said with a grin as she gave Seiya his Coke. "Thanks," Raye said as she took the glass of Coke. "Raye!" Seiya said, annoyed. "Hmm?" she hummed as she sucked the straw. "Oh, sorry. Was this yours?" He groaned. "See. Serena even says so," Mina said, who was sitting beside Amy. Amy turned to her left. "I never had a crush on Greg did I, Darien?" she said, not really noticing that Darien was there. Her eyes became wide. "Darien?!" "Darien!?" The other two girls said. "It's Darien, all right," Amy said. Mina and Raye hopped out of their seats to see Darien. "Hey! It *is* Darien!" Raye said. "How've you been?" Mina asked him happily. "Okay," he replied. They started to question him. "Girls! Girls!" Serena said. "Calm down. I'm sure Darien doesn't like all this attention," she said with a smile. They sat down back at their seats. "Now, we were talking about Greg? Right?" "Yep," Mina agreed. "We were just talking about our love lives--" "Or lack of them," Lita said from behind the counter. "You can't say much, Lita," Mina said. "Anyway...suddenly Greg came to our minds, and now we are arguing if Amy had a crush on him in Junior High." "Is Greg that guy with gorgeous blue eyes and stunning brown hair?" Lita said with a sigh. "A-huh." "Oh. I saw him come in today; with Darien." "You did?!" Mina and Raye said in unison. "Hey, Darien!" Greg said, walking through the front door. "I got the reports from the--" he stopped as he saw Amy. "Amy..." he said, mesmerised. Amy blushed a little. "Hi, Greg." "Ooooh..." Serena, Raye, Lita and Mina said together. "Hi," he said with a sigh. "Greg," Darien said. "The reports?" "Reports? What reports?" he asked, confused. Darien groaned and shook his head. "That's *so* romantic," Serena said with a sigh. "How do they know each other?" Seiya asked. "Amy had a crush on Greg in Junior High." Seiya smiled and nodded. "Greg?" Darien said. "Do you wanna have the day off? Go take Amy to the movies or something," he said with a grin. Greg blushed and nodded. "Do you want to..." he said Amy. Amy nodded as she stood up and walked to him, then they walked out the door. Lita sighed. "He looks a lot like my old boyfriend..." Everyone groaned. "Ohmigod!" Mina said, running to the door. "Was that Peter Andre!?" "Where?!" Serena and Raye said, following Mina out the door. "We better be going," Seiya said to Kat. Kat nodded and climbed into her father's arms. "Bye, bye!" Kat said. "See ya guys later!" "Nice to meet you," Seiya said. "You too," Darien said then watching him walked out the door with his daughter. When Darien turned around to see Lita behind the counter, she had a cold look in her eyes. "What the hell are you doing here?" she said in a cold voice. He was very surprised. "What do you mean?" "Look. You and I both know what kind of relation- ship you had with Serena in the past." He looked away. "You can't always run away from the past, Darien. If you *dare* hurt Serena again..." she said in a threatening voice. Then Serena walked in. "That wasn't Peter Andre," she said in an annoyed voice. "I think Mina needs a pair of glasses." "Would you like to go, Serena?" Darien said, looking coldly at Lita. Lita mirrored his expression. "Sure!" Serena said, not noticing the looks. "I know a great park where there are pretty birds and flowers..." Darien and Serena walked out the door. They walked to the park which was two blocks away in silence. "Isn't Seiya one of the Starlights?" Darien asked as they reached the park, the scent of Spring filling their noses. "Hmm-mm," Serena replied. "He's taking a break and they are producing a new album in a couple of months." "Oh, I see," Darien said, nodding. "I didn't know he had a daughter." "Yeah. His wife died at child-birth." "Oh." They didn't walk to close, but then not far either. "So..." Darien said, breaking the uncomfortable silence. "So what?" Serena smiled. "It's been a while, hasn't it?" "Yes, it has." "Anything exciting happened?" he asked. "Hmmm...not that I know of." She smiled again. "How 'bout you?" "Nothin'." They kept walking. "Do you wanna-" they said in unison. "You first," Serena said. "No. Ladies first." "I insist." He smiled. He remembered how Serena always got her way. "Okay. I was just wondering if you'd like to go out..." he left in hanging. "Sure! I'd love to," she said with a giggle. "Do you want me to show you around Sydney?" "That'd be good," he said with a smile. "Okay! Tomorrow then?" "Sure, tomorrow. I've gotta go. I've got a meeting." "Oh, okay." "Where do you want to meet?" "Here, I'll give you my address and phone number, and I'll drive you around." "You drive?" he asked, raising both eyebrows. "Yes, I do." She smiled. "Here." She wrote took his hand and wrote her address and number. "Don't lose it now," she said, in a motherly way. "How am I suppose to lose my hand?" he said, walking away. Serena giggled. The next morning, Darien knocked on the door of Serena Tsukino, wearing a jeans and a blue shirt complementing his eyes. The door opened to see a sleepy Serena. "What are you doing here so early?" she asked, ready to fall back to sleep. "It's ten o'clock," Darien said, walking in as Serena opened the door wider. "Have a seat..." she said with a yawn. "Do you want some breakfast?" "No, thanks. I've had some already." "Oh, okay. I'll just go get dressed." She turned around and padded her way to her bedroom. As she got dressed, Darien viewed his surroundings. The apartment wasn't big, but then it wasn't small. It had big windows over-looking the harbour. "Okay, ready!" Serena walked out wearing a short white skirt and a stripped top. "Where are we off to first?" Darien asked as they exited the door after locking it. "Dunno," Serena said with shrug as they headed toward the lift. They entered the lift. "We can go to the Olympic site, Sydney Harbour or to a museum?" she said. "Hmm," he hummed. "I'd like to see the Olympic site. Then we'll go to Sydney Harbour." "Okay! Olympic site first. Do you have your camera?" "Yep." The doors opened and Serena headed towards her car. "What car do you have?" Darien asked. "Just a little hatchback. Dad gave it as a birthday present for my twenty-first." Once he saw the blue car he had to chuckle. "Cute." She laughed. "Hop in." Serena and Darien toured the Olympic site, Darien taking many photos. They ended up at a restaurant where they ate their dinner outside over-looking the harbour. "It's so beautiful here," Darien said, taking more photos with his professional camera. "Yes, it is," Serena agreed. "What made you to live in Sydney?" "Oh, work and stuff. I get paid better here than I did in Tokyo." "I might be staying here in a couple of years time." He seated himself down. "Couple of years? That long? I thought you were staying for good *this* time." "No," Darien said with a laugh. "I have other... commitments in Tokyo. I'll only be staying here for a few of days." "Oh..." Serena seemed saddened by that fact. "Then you'll be here for the Fancy Dress Party at the cafe?" "Fancy dress?" Darien laughed. "Those aren't my type of things. But I'll try to make it." "Please do," she begged. "I'd better get going," Darien said, standing up. "My apartment is walking distance, so you don't need to drop me." "No, it's okay," Serena said, standing up. "It's fine, Serena. I had a great day. Thank you." "You sure?" "Yes, I am. Good night." "Good night." "Serena," Lita said when Serena entered the kitchen the next day at lunch time. "I have something to tell you." "Really?" Serena said with a smile. "What is it?" "Darien's engaged." "W-what?" she trembled. "He's engaged," Lita said softly. "This can't be-" "She's here, eating lunch with him." "She could be a business partner or something." "No, Serena. I saw them both and he kissed her..." Serena's lower lip began to tremble. "Why?" she whispered. Lita comforted her. "It's okay Serena." "It's not okay, Lita!" she said as she exited the kitchen and picked up two plates from the counter. "Enjoy your lunch," Serena said as she set down two dishes in front of Darien and his fiancee. "Serena--I didn't expect you to be here," he said a little uncomfortably. "Your drink sir," she said angrily. She took hold of the wine glass which contained red wine and spilt it onto his white shirt. "How could you!?" she said loudly, causing people to look at their direction. "Darien!" his fiancee said. "Are you all right, darling." Serena started crying. She looked at him and ran straight out the door. "Serena wait!" he called. "What is it Darien?" she said, stopping but not turning around. "I'm sorry--" "Sorry for what, Darien?!" she shouted angrily. "Sorry for being engaged?!" Her face was red with anger. "I can explain--" "Engaged, Darien! Engaged! Do you know what that means?" "Please, Sere--" "I had a proposal too. Remember Seiya Kou? He proposed to me," she said, crying. Darien looked startled. "But I didn't want to accept because I knew that you had my heart, and that you would come back to me," she cried. "But I guess I was wrong," she said in a quiet, deadly voice. She ran away from him. Ding dong! Serena's bell sounded. "Coming!" she said, then opened the door. "Darien..." "Hi, Serena. May I come in?" She thought for a moment. Might as well get this over and done with, she thought. "Sure," she said as she held the door wider. "Thanks." He entered to see boxes being filled around the small apartment. "Sorry. It's a little messy," Serena said, clearing place on the couch for her and Darien to sit. "Thanks." "So what did you want to know?" she said as she sat beside him. "Look, Serena...about yesterday... I'm not married to her yet and--" "You want to break the engagement off?" she said, a trifle angry. "I don't love her, Serena!" "Darien! Don't let her go! This is another girl, who loves you, and you want to throw that away?" she shouted. "I *don't* love her, Serena," he said. "I love *you*. I want *you*," he pleaded. "Well you can't. I've accepted Seiya's proposal." TO BE CONTINUED.... Hehehe... How do you like it so far? This is only going to be a two part story, so the next part is out next week. Have a nice day (or night)! Thanks for reading this! Roo.
