At the moment Darien had shouted 'what', Ben had his attention on him and Serena rather than the girl who had just walked away from him. "Serena?" said Ben, walking toward her, with a surprised look on his face. "Is that really you?" He had wavy blond hair, combed back, and the most palest brown eyes. He wore the boys uniform. "It is you!" He embraced Serena, but she didn't return the gesture. "Is there something wrong Serena? Don't you remember me?" he said, stepping back. "Oh, I remember you," she said in an icy voice. thought Darien. "You heartless bastard!" She slapped him across his face, then ran away as the bell rang. "Wow!" said Ben, massaging his sore cheek. "She's changed." "How-what...when," said Darien, confusion clearly written on his face. "It's a long story, buddy," Ben said, laying a hand on Darien's back. They walked over to the hall, for the last time of year, as it was the last day of school. The students of the school all moved toward the hall for an assembly with the principal. Within the crowd, was Serena still with her back-pack, since Darien hadn't shown her her locker. Serena sighed, as she didn't know what to do with Ben, the guy who broke her heart so many times, and then at the end... "Serena!?" someone shouted from behind. "Huh?" Serena turned around to see two girls, one with short blue hair and another with long black hair. "Amy!" she said stopping for the two girls to catch up to her. "Serena!" She embraced the girl tightly, happy to see her friend in such a long time. "Amy...you can let go now." The girl let go, blushing a little. "Sorry. I'm just so happy to see you in such a long time!" "Me too, Amy!" She said, eveloping her in a big bear hug, tears of joy in her eyes. She finally let go of her. "Oh! I almost forgot. This is Raye Davidson, one of my good friends." "Nice to meet you, Raye." She smiled. "You too." Raye smiled. "We better get moving," said Amy. "We don't want to have a detention." They hurried off in to the hall, and sat cross legged on the wooden floor. The hall was a big high ceiling room, with a stage at the front, and chairs on the left and right sides for the teachers to be seated. Students were sitting in order of their grade, first part grade seven to the last part of the hall, grade twelve. "Girls and boys," said the deputy principal through a microphone, to get the student's attention. Apparently that didn't work, as there was to much chatter. "Girls! Boys! Settle down, now!" she shouted through the microphone, getting everybody's attention. "That's better," she said calmly. "Mrs Portland will not be here today, so I will hold the assembly." She cleared her throat. There is only one thing to discuss today, before you leave at noon today..." There was a load cheer from the students when they heard her last sentence. "They are letting us out early today," Amy said to Serena. "Because it is the last day of school, and it will be hectic to teach classes." "Does that mean I didn't have to get my text books and things?" asked Serena. "Seems like it." "Settle down, now!" Mrs Coombs (the deputy principal) said. Everyone went silent. "We have a new student among us, an exchange student from Japan. She has exchanged with Nicole Ferr who has gone to Japan with her parents. The new student's name is Serena Tsukino, and would you please stand up, Serena. Serena turned red, as everyone murmured and looked for her. "Stand up," said Raye. "I don't want to," Serena said looking down. "Get up," said Amy. "Oh, alright." She stood up. "Please welcome, Serena!" said Mrs Coombs. Everyone clapped for Serena, and there were a few whistles. "Serena is a very intelligent girl, as she came second in her school this year," said Mrs Coombs, Serena still standing, but the clapping had stopped. "She has won many ice-skating competitions and she can speak Japanese and English fluently, so don't hesitate to ask questions. Thank you, Serena. You may sit down now." She smiled. Serena sat down, still blushing. "You could have at least told me that I didn't need my textbooks today," Serena said to Darien as they stepped into his house. "You never asked," he said simply. "Hey, how do you know Ben?" Darien asked once he was in the kitchen. "Is it any of your business?" Serena was seated on one of the couches. "I guess it isn't. By the way, Ben and his family are coming over for dinner tonight." He smirked. "What?! Your kidding right?" She asked nervously. "I wish I was," he said mockingly. "Come on! Tell me the truth!" she said, getting up. "I *am* telling the truth." He said, still smirking. "My parents and his parents know each other very well." "OH!" Serena flopped down on the couch. "Your home early," said Martha, as she entered the family room. "Yeah," said Darien. "Dismissed us early." "Serena! Serena!" said Sam, running to Serena. "Hello, Sam," she said getting up into a sitting position, and embracing Sam. "How have you been?" "I've been fine, Serena. And guess what?" "What?" Serena smiled. "I painted a picture for you, but it's a surprise." "Why thank you, Sam." "Your welcome, Serena!" "What would you like for lunch, Serena?" Martha asked in the kitchen. "Nothing, thanks." "Nothing? Why not?" "I'm not that hungry." She smiled. "Okay." "Darien said the Tomoi family is coming over for dinner tonight," Serena said casually as she stood up. "Yes, they are. Do you know them?" "Yeah..." "Well! That's good. It *is* a small world after all!" Serena left the family room and climbed the stairs to get changed in her room. Once she got changed into a short white skirt and a blue short sleeved top, she decided to write in her diary. Dear Diary, Today was my first day at the new school, and I was greeted by an old friend; Ben. Ben is the same, I guess. He hugged me today, and it felt good to be in his arms again. I'm so confused! He is the one who left me, without writing me letters, calling me, and I think I still love him. Well, he and his family are coming over for dinner tonight, as Darien told me. Mmm...Darien. He can be *so* annoying at times, but he *is* cute, with those piercing blue eyes, and black hair. Darien, his family and I had a talk about old times, and there was a photo of him and I kissing under mistletoe. I was only five then, so no biggy. I have to spend Christmas with the Chiba's this year, and I'm going to miss my family a lot. I wish I could spend Christmas with *my* family. Gotta go, Sam is calling me. Serena. Serena opened the door to find Sam with her big green eyes staring up at her. "Could you come and play with me, outside, Serena? Please?" asked Sam. "Okay." She held Sam's hand and descended the stairs. Little did she know, Darien in his room, started to write in his journal... December 5th, The last day of school. Time to relax and have fun. Today was Serena's first day at Sydney Grammar, and she knew Ben. I couldn't believe it for some reason; Ben knowing Serena. Serena said he was her ex-boyfriend. But I don't see Serena as being the type to go out with Ben. Serena *is* quite beautiful with those amazing blue eyes, and nice body. She is very easy to tease though, and she looks cute when she gets angry. Gotta go, the Tomoi family are here for dinner. Darien. Darien descended the stairs, wearing a pale yellow short sleeved shirt and jeans and went to greet the Tomoi family. "Hey Dare!" said Ben. He wore black jeans and a white t-shirt. "Hi Ben, Joyce and Brian," Darien said extending his hand to shake Mr and Mrs Tomoi's hand. "Good to see you all again," said Brian. He had brown eyes and black hair. He wore a pair of blue trousers and a white long sleeved shirt. "Sit down, make yourself at home," said David. Joyce, Brian and Ben sat down in the family room as Martha was preparing dinner. Serena and Sam entered the house through the sliding door in the solarium. "Yeah, but the bird-house was..." said Serena to Sam. She stopped as she saw the Tomoi family in the family room. "Serena!?" said Joyce. She wore a short blue dress with short sleeves. "Hi Mrs Tomoi, Mr Tomoi," she said shaking their hands. "Ben," she said shaking his hand too. "Don't be so formal Serena!" said Brian. "It's so nice to see you!" "You know each other?" said David, surprised. "Yes," said Joyce. "When we lived in Tokyo, Ben used to bring Serena for dinner now and then." She smiled. "Really?" David asked, still surprised. "Dinner's ready!" said Martha from the kitchen. Everyone made their was toward the dinning room to sit at that dinning table, since it was bigger than the one in the solarium. Martha and David sat at the ends of the eight seater table, Darien across Sam, Joyce across Brian and Serena across Ben. Darien watched Serena and Ben as they kept quiet. "Didn't know you were staying at Dare's," said Ben. "Yeah, well...my parents knows Darien's parents," she said not looking up from her dinner. Ben and Serena sat quietly in their seats as everyone on the table were talking. After dinner, Serena helped clean up in the kitchen as Darien and Ben went outside to the backyard. The back yard was very large with a swimming pool, basketball/tennis court and a swing set. There was a beautiful view of Sydney now, in the night. You could see Sydney Harbour and the city sky-line. "Beautiful night, isn't it," said Darien. "Yes, it is," said Ben. "Lemme, guess," said Darien. "Serena on your mind?" "Yeah." "She told me you were her ex-boyfriend." "Yeah. When I moved here, I didn't tell her that I did, and I didn't write to her either. "And why did you do that?" "Well..." Ben smiled a little. "She was so immature and..." "You didn't write to her because she was immature!?" said Darien. "You are *so* unbelievable Ben!" Darien laughed. "And now you want to get back with her 'cause she's more *mature.*" Darien laughed more. "Darien will you shut up!" "Hey guys!" called Serena from the doorway. "Desert's ready." After desert, Serena decided to go to the backyard, to breathe in some fresh air, as Darien washed the dishes. "Serena?" She turned around to see pale brown eyes. "Ben," she gasped. "Serena..." She turned away, ready to go back into the house. "Just let me explain, please Serena," he pleaded. "Okay." She sighed. "I'm really sorry I didn't write to you or anything, but remember my grandmother?" Serena nodded. "She didn't like you and...and she stopped all the letters I sent to you." "How do you know this?" "I found all the letters in her room. I wanted to hear from you *so* much, and when I didn't I was so...sad. She passed away last month. He grabbed her hand and looked into her watery eyes. "Please, Serena," he whispered. "Give me one more chance." She looked into his eyes and saw truth and love in them. "Alright," she whispered. "Thank you." He smiled then gave her a long kiss on the lips. Little did she know, he was lying through his teeth. "Don't we look happy today?" Darien asked Serena on this Tuesday morning. He was seated at the piano in the family room. "Hmm mm," Serena hummed, from the kitchen. She wore jeans and a pink top with a bunny printed on it. "Ben's taking me out today." She smiled. "What!?" "Hmm mm." She sat on the couch, with a banana. "You can't! I mean...you shouldn't." "And why not, Mr Chiba?" "What do you mean why not? I was just kiddin'." He smiled. thought Darien. "Don't worry, Darien," she said mockingly. "I'm sure you'll get your dream girl someday." Darien groaned, and went back to practising the piano. He started to play 'Moonlight Sonata', but he was having a little bit of trouble. "Like this, silly," Serena said, once she had disposed of the banana peel. She walked over to Darien, and he made room for Serena to be seated to the left of him on the piano stool. "When you play this song, you have to have curved fingers, not flat ones," she said. She started to play a bit. "Okay, now your turn." His senses were going wild, at the scent of her, so he couldn't concentrate properly. He played, but got the fingering incorrect. "No, silly, like this." She played again. He put his left arm around her, and placed his hands on her hands, trying to get the fingering correct. "Hmm mm...that's correct," she said. She noticed how her small hands fitted perfectly in his large ones, and how soft and warm he felt. She let her hands slip away from his, as he continued playing. His hands were closer to each other now, causing his arms to get tighter around Serena. She blushed a little, as her heart beated faster. Once he had completed the song, the door-bell rang. "That must be Ben," she said, getting out of Darien's 'embrace' and running to the door. "Ben!" Darien heard her say. He could picture Serena and Ben in each other's arm, and for some reason he felt...jealous? "I'll be back in a few hours, okay?" said Serena from the foyer. "Yeah, what ever," Darien said as he heard the door close. "Thanks, Ben," Serena said on the doorstep of the house she was staying in. "I had a great time." "Anything for you, Serena." He kissed her. "Bye." She smiled. "Bye." She entered the house once she saw Ben enter his car. "Darien?" she called, not really knowing why. No one was in the house but him, since his parents went to work and Sam was at pre-school. She walked outside to find Darien playing basketball by himself. She walked over to the gate, opened it, then ran and snatched the ball off Darien and shot a goal. "One point for me!" she said. "Hey, no fair!" Darien protested. "I didn't even see you coming," he said as Serena got the ball. "Oh, well." She smiled, then started to bounce the ball again. "Why don't we make a bet?" he said, keeping his eye on the ball. "Okay...ten yen to who ever gets to fifteen points first." "You mean dollars," he said as he got the ball. "What ever." Serena and Darien made their way into the house as the moon went up. "You owe be ten *yen* pal," said Darien, with a smile. "At least I played fairly," Serena said as she sat down on the couch, in the family room. Darien's parents were preparing dinner in the kitchen. "I did play fairly, I didn't cheat," he said as he sat next to her. "Pong!" Serena said, moving away from him. "You *stink*! And I don't mean it as a compliment." "Ha, ha, ha. *Very* funny," he said sarcastically, "I have to take a shower now, any way." Both Darien and Serena stood up. "I want the shower first," said Serena. "Oh, no you don't," he said as he ran past her. "Hey!" she said following him upstairs. He quickly went into the bathroom, and slammed and locked the door behind him. "Haven't you ever heard of *ladies first*," Serena said, pounding on the door. "Umm...lemme see," he said sarcastically behind the door. "Nope. I guess I haven't." He chuckled. Serena groaned and went to her room, and opened up her diary and started writing in it. Dear Diary, Darien can be such a jerk at times, that I feel like killing him. But then again he can be nice...sometimes. He was playing the piano, and was fumbling a little, so I helped him and he put his arm me, to reach my hands. It felt so right, for some reason. He was so warm as well. I went out to the movies with Ben, and he is just the same fun-loving guy. Anyway, I'll write tomorrow. Serena. "Hey, Serena!" said Darien. "I'm out of the shower, you can use it now." He changed into a black pair of jeans and a green t-shirt, and sat on the couch in the rumpus and watched t.v. Serena walked outside with her towel and new clothes in her hands, and went past Darien to the bathroom. She turned the shower on, stepped inside and made a small scream. She quickly got out and put her old clothes on, her hair down, and went to the rumpus, fuming. "You used all the hot water you, idiot!" "Oh, yeah. Forgot to mention that," he said not looking at her. She grabbed one of the cushions on the couch and started hitting him with it. "You moron! You *knew* I was going to have a shower after you!" "Hey!" he said grabbing a pillow and doing the same to Serena. They both started laughing. "Oww!" Serena said as Darien grabbed and pulled her hair. "Woops! Sorry, Barbie. Guess you need to cut it." That really made Serena mad. "I think I should get out of here before you blow a fuse," Darien said, running down stairs. "You're not getting away with that!" Serena said, following Darien. Serena ran all around the house, chasing Darien, as Martha and David tried to stop them, but not succeeding. Serena finally caught Darien, and tickled him until he said sorry. "Come on, now," Serena said, tickling him. "Say your sorry." Darien couldn't stop laughing. He tried to get her hands of him, but he was to weak to do that. "I'm...I'm...sorry." "I didn't *here* you," she said, still tickling him. "I'm sorry!" he shouted. "That's more like it," she said, standing up. I think your mother said dinner's ready." After dinner, Darien went up to his room and wrote in his journal... December 6th, Another boring day, doing nothing except annoying Serena. Serena actual annoyed me, today. She tickled me until I said sorry for using the all the hot water. She owes me ten bucks for a basketball game, which I narrowly won. She is quite a good player, for a girl I mean. She went out with Ben today, and I couldn't help but feel a little jealous for some reason. I haven't had a strong relationship in a long while, and Ben has had one nearly every month! I think Ben is just going to dump Serena like he does to every other girl. I tried to warn her, but she looked so happy, and that made me happy too. For some very odd reason, seeing her happy, makes me happy. Darien. Early the next morning, both Serena and Darien woke up at the same time. "Good morning, Serena," Darien said as he came out of his bedroom, dressed in jeans and a green shirt. "Good morning, Sammy," Serena mumbled, walking down the staircase, dressed in a short white skirt and a blue top, carrying something. "Excuse me?" Darien asked as he walked down the stairs too. She looked up to see Darien walking beside him. "Oh, sorry," she said as they reached the family room. "I thought you were my brother," she said as Darien went to the kitchen and she sat on the couch. "Feeling home-sick?" he asked once he sat down on the other couch. "Hmm mm," she replied glumly, looking at some photos. "May I see," he asked getting up, and sitting beside her. "Yeah, sure." She handed him the photos. "So, that's your dad, mum and brother," he said looking at one photo. He looked at another one, and said, "That's Amy Anderson and Lita Cunnigham." "You know them?" she asked surprised. "Yeah, Lita is in the same ice-skating club as me, and Amy goes to the same school as me." "I saw Amy the other day. I haven't seen her in years." "She looks pretty young here." "Yeah, that was three years ago, before she had to come here, because her mum was offered a job." "How do you know Lita?" he said looking at her. "She went to the same school as I did, before she was offered a scholarship here in some girl school. How do *you* know her?" "I was her ice-skating partner once," he said looking at the photo again. "In a competition." "Really? She never told me anything about that. Did you win?" "No, we came second." "She did tell me that. Do you do ice-skating?" She asked, looking at him. "Yes. I heard that you do too," he said with a smile as he looked at her. "Yeah..." She looked at his eyes and couldn't help but drown in the deepest blue seas. He couldn't help but stare at her beautiful blue eyes. He thought he had died and gone to heaven's seas. She cleared her throat, looked down at the photos in her hands, and blushed a little. He also looked down at the photos. "Is that you?" he asked pointing to a girl with two buns in her hair. She nodded, knowing that her voice wouldn't work. "Your hair...it looks like two meat balls." He smirked as Serena glared at him. "Take that back!" He chuckled. "Why? It does; and your long hair looks like spaghetti. Spaghetti and meat balls!" She ignored him, and looked at another photo of a girl with long blond hair and blue eyes, and a young man with short blond hair and green eyes. "Is that your sister?" Darien asked. She smiled. "No, that's Mina Livingstone and that's her boyfriend Andrew Green." He nodded. "Have you seen Lita here?" "No, I haven't." "She's going to the youth centre down the street. That's where we practise ice-skating and I'm going in a few minutes. Wanna come?" "Sure, that'd be great." She smiled. They made their way down the road toward the youth centre, Darien with a bag containing his ice skates. The youth centre was a large building with four indoor squash courts, indoor swimming pool, aerobics centre, gym and ice-skating rink. They walked through a few hallways, and finally reached the ice-skating rink. "Wow," Serena said. "It's much bigger that the one at home." "You can hire some skates over there," Darien said. "Okay." She hired some skates, put them on and went onto the ice. Darien was already on. "I don't see Lita anywhere," he said, as he skated slowly next to her. "Mmm. Me neither," she said looking around. "When is she suppose to come?" "There is a meeting with our coach in a few minutes..." "There she is!" Serena skated as fast as she could do Lita. "Lita!" Lita turned around to see a happy girl skating to her. Lita was wearing a short green skirt and a green top. "Serena?" Serena stopped as she reached Lita, and then hugged the surprised girl. "Hello Lita!" she said as she let go of her. "Serena, it is so nice to see you!" she said with a huge smile. Darien caught up with them. "Do you know Darien?" Lita asked. "Unfortunately, yes," Serena said. "Hey, I was the one who brought you here," Darien said, a little hurt. "Well thank you Darien. You may leave us now." "Yes, Mrs Chang," he said bowing deeply. "Moron," Serena mumbled under her breath. "What was that all about? Lita asked. "Nothing. Just an annoying guy." Serena sighed. After spending a few hours at the ice rink, Darien and Serena decided to head back. "Did you have fun?" Darien asked Serena as they were walking back to his house. "Yeah, we did. It's nice to see her after so long." She smiled. When they arrived at the house, they found David, Brian and Ben trying to fit a Christmas tree through the door. "Nice tree, Dad," Darien said walking up the porch. "Give us a hand, will you son," David said. "Sure," he said as he gave the bag he was carry to Serena, then helping them. The tree fitted through the door and they set it in the lounge, on a tree stand. "Wolla!" Ben said. "Great tree," Serena said, walking up to Ben and kissing his cheek. Darien felt jealousy boiling up inside him, again, as Ben wrapped his arms around Serena's waist. "Now we have to decorate it!" Sam said, running to get the decorations from the garage. "I'll go help Sam," Darien offered running after Sam. He found Sam in the garage, trying to reach a box on the shelf. Darien got it for her, as he reached on the other shelf to get another box. "What's wrong, Dare?" Sam asked, concerned. "What do you mean, 'what's wrong'?" "Well, when Serena went out with Ben, you seem different." Darien reached other smaller boxes and put it in a big box. "Do you...love...Serena?" Sam asked, hesitantly. TO BE CONTINUED... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Cliff hanger!!! Don't ya just love 'em!?! How do you like it so far?
