This story is a new telling of the downfall of the Moon Kingdom, using the myth of The Crow. Thank you for reading! ******************************************** "People once believed that when a person died, A crow carried their soul to the land of the dead. But sometimes, something so bad happens that a terrible sadness is carried with it; and the soul can't rest. Then sometimes, just sometimes, the crow can bring that soul back to make the wrong things right." ******************************************** THE CROW: SERENITY ACT TWO ******************************************** Fear. The remaining residents of the Moon Kingdom cower behind their doors at night. To venture outside would surely mean death...or worse. The Dark Kingdom had swept down upon them so suddenly and killed so many. Now they were ruled by the malicious Beryl and her Generals. No more songs were heard in celebration, no more laughing children would play in the streets...only darkness and death remained, so the good people stayed hidden and mourned their fate. Jedite walks along the stone pathway through the town. The clicking noise of his boots against the stone are the only sound to be heard. He looks at each of the houses he passes, trying to decide which he would grace with his prescence next. He had already been fortunate to have entered a home that held three lovely maidens. He smiles at the memory. CAW! Jedite whips around and draws his sword. A large crow stares at him from a nearby tree. He spits towards the crow and sheathes his sword. He turns back to the path-- "Jedite." Jedite turns again and sees a dark figure down the path. Drawing his sword once more, he advances towards the figure. "Who are you that dare speak my name?" Jedite snarls. "You know me, Jedite. Listen to my voice." ******************************************** "Jedite, I need you to accompany me to the Moon," he says. "Yes, Prince Endymion," Jedite replies. ******************************************** Jedite stops. His heart beats faster as the figure comes into view. It is a man, dressed all in black. A cape flows out behind him and a top hat adorns his head. It is a masquerade outfit. ******************************************** "You look very mysterious in that costume," she says and then laughs softly. She draws the cape around herself as he takes her in his arms. ******************************************** As the man draws closer, Jedite can see his face. His face. It is painted with the somber colors of white and black (a mask to hide the pain inside) but it is his face. "Endymion..." Jedite whispers in fear. "It can't be...you're dead...you're dead!" Endymion walks up to him and the crow flies to his shoulder. "So are you," he says and smiles. "You were dead from the moment you laid your hands on her." Jedite turns to run (such a brave soldier) but Endymion catches him by the back of his neck and throws him to the ground. His sword falls from the sheathe and clatters on the stone. Jedite frantically crawls toward it and is met by Endymion's boot on his hand. Pain. Pain and fear. Endymion picks up the sword as Jedite crawls backwards, begging for his life. ******************************************** "No...please don't...no...don't hurt her..." ******************************************** Endymion laughs. He stands over Jedite and holds the sword in his hands. "So Jedite, do you remember? A man, a woman, begging for each other's lives...and the blood...oh God, the blood...do you remember? Do you remember!" Jedite shakes his head up and down, tears starting to fall from his eyes. The crow takes flight as Endymion raises the sword up high. Jedite screams and vengeance falls upon his body. Screams. Pain. Silence. ********************************************
