SmTwilight@aol.com A Morning Coincidence Part 3 By: Twilight Editor: SailorTwin Usagi watched Ami leave, then turned to look again at Mamoru. Cautiously she made her way to the chair next to his bed and once again held his hand. Usagi had never cried so hard and so much in her entire life. Especially over someone she had known for hardly a day. But whenever she was with him she felt as if she had known him forever. Kinda like stepping into a pair of old comfy bunny slippers. She smiled at her own silliness. "People always say it's good to talk someone when they're asleep. So I guess I'll just tell you about myself." Usagi took a quick glance around the room and behind her before starting her story. "Well, my name is Usagi Serenity Tsukino. My parents both passed away about two years ago and I live in some nice apartments called `Courtyard' a few blocks from where you live. I'm an only child and I'm 23 now. I like to design clothes and occasionally I decorate houses. Not really though, mainly just mine. Oh, my best friend is Mina Aino, I work for Crescent Designs, maybe you've heard of it? Mina and I own it. We look very much alike. You saw her that day you came to the arcade........before......." Usagi literally shook her head to push the unwanted memory back and seal it away. "We...we went to the same school and majored in the same things. I also know Ami, the doctor who's taking care of you. She's very sweet and smart and I love her like a sister. My friends are my family now and I don't know I what would do without them. I don't know what I would do without you.. I've never been in love before Mamoru and it scares me, if this is love. I just wish you were awake to tell me how you feel. I would hate to be pouring out my heart to you when you don't feel the same way." Usagi cleared her throat and pulled out a thin paperback book. "I brought you a book and I thought I would read it to you. So you can hear the sound of my voice." She cleared her throat once again and began reading for Mamoru. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Ami was going to check on Mamoru to see how his condition was when she heard Usagi talking. She caught her name somewhere in Usagi's babble and stopped to listen. Her words were simple but so heartfelt and meaningful that it made Ami's eyes mist over. She thought of Usagi like a sister too and hated to see her so sad. Ami brought her hand up to the side of the door and knocked lightly. Usagi stopped in mid-sentence and turned around to see who was knocking. She saw Ami standing there, her left shoulder resting against the railing of the wall, arms crossed in front of her. "Hi Usa-chan. I was wondering if you wanted to grab something to eat later when I go on break." "Sure Ami-chan, I'd like that" Usagi gave a half smile then turned her attention back to the sleeping Mamoru. Ami quietly left the two alone and went to run her errands. After a few more minutes Usagi decided to get up and get some chips to snack on and a coke to drink. She forgot to eat earlier in the day because she was preoccupied. As she walked along the halls, she became very aware of the strong smell of ammonia and other heavy cleaning agents which invaded her senses. She was just a few feet from Mamoru's room when she felt herself getting lightheaded and dizzy. She brought one hand up to lean against the wall for support only to drop her soda and chips to the floor. A nurse passing by, stopped and asked if she was okay, bringing her arms up to rest on Usagi's shoulders. She had long purplish black hair and dark violet eyes. "Dr. Muzino! Come quick, I think she's about to fa--" was the last thing Usagi heard as she felt herself slip to the floor and land with a soft thud against the wall. "Oh my Usa-chan! Raye, what happened?" Ami calmly searched for her pulse and sighed with relief to find one. "Well I was passing by and I saw her suddenly lean up against the wall for support and drop her food. You saw the rest" Raye eyed the blonde lady curiously and concluded that she was indeed very pretty. Wanting to know who she was she turned to Ami. "Dr. Muzino, you called her `Usa-chan' is she a good friend of yours?" Ami looked up to Raye and nodded her head yes. "I've known Usa-chan for hmm.. around 9 years now. She's like a sister to me. Help me carry her into Mamoru's room." Ami then threw one of Usagi's arms around her shoulder and started to lift her frail body. Raye was confused as to why she would bring her into his room but decided it was the closest bed near by. She than grabbed Usagi's other arm and helped Ami bring her into Mamoru's room and onto the extra bed. "Thankyou Raye, if you would please bring some extra pillows and blankets in here so I can cover her up." As she walked out of the room Ami turned to look at Usagi and felt her forehead for a temperature, it felt okay. Her face was very pale and she had little color on her cheeks. "I guess all of this was too much for you huh, Usagi?" She then covered her with the thin sheet and waited for Raye to return. She tended to Mamoru and checked to make sure all his vital signs were okay and charted them. "Here you are Dr. Muzino" Raye then handed her the pillow and covered Usagi with the blankets while Ami tucked the pillow under her head. "She should be fine, she just needs some rest." The two then left the room with now two sleeping figures. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Groggily, Usagi woke up to a strange room. Frightened, she sat up clutching the blanket closely to her. Then she saw Mamoru to her left still asleep on the other bed. "What happened?" She asked herself bringing a hand to her forehead and closing her eyes. Lightly she shook her head back and forth as her hair spilled around her shoulders no longer in a bun. "Good to see that you finally woke up Usa-chan. You fainted earlier, are you feeling better now?" Ami asked as she walked in with a glass of milk and some cookies. "Yea, I'm feeling much better now. Hmm you know just how to brighten up my day Ami-chan......Food!" She smiled brightly at the thought of finally getting food into her system. Hungrily she took them away from Ami chowing down on them like there was no tomorrow. Ami giggled with delight at her. "It's good to see that you're better. I'll be back to visit you guys later!" she hugged Usagi and turned to the still sleeping Mamoru. "Bye Ami-chan" Usagi wondered how long she had been out and glanced out the window and silently gasped, surprised to see that it was dark outside. Looking around she found a clock on the far end of the wall next to a television set. "Wow? It's already 10:30pm...." She then got up off the bed and walked back over to Mamoru's side and sat down in the very familiar chair. She could tell there had been no change in him yet and silently prayed for him to soon wake up. She heard a soft moan escape his lips as his head rolled slightly to the left. Usagi almost jumped from her chair with glee but decided to just hold his hand instead. "Mamoru? Are you awake?" she asked hopefully, but to her utter dissapointment he never awoke. Usagi slowly sat back in her chair, shoulders slumped in defeat. Deciding that she too needed to rest she decided to sleep. Curling herself into a small ball on the extra bed she closed her eyes and waited until sleep overcame her. Popping her eyes open as if awakened by a noise she jumped from the bed and headed out of the small room. Walking along the hallways of the hospital and to the front desk she called for a cab. A few short minutes later one showed up and drove her to her destination. Kindly she paid the cab driver and took off for the apartments. `Okay, Andrew said the top floor' She then exited the elevators and tried to remember which direction to go. `we went....left and it's the last door on the right!' Relieved and happy that she remembered, Usagi hurriedly walked to his door unlocked it, stepped inside and locked it again. She began feeling the wall for a switch, once she found them she turned on the lights. Usagi started to look around his apartment again and walked over to a shelf that had a couple of books on them. She began to read what he had out loud to herself. "Hmm Physics....Chemistry....Medical Terminology....Gardening...." Just then a small slim book about the heighth of a video tape caught her attention. It didn't have a title on it and it looked somewhat worn and used. Cautiously she removed it from the shelf careful not to make anything fall. Opening the small book the front page read: `Mamoru Darien Chiba, August 3, 1972' in sloppy writing. Usagi gradually made her way to the couch never looking up from the journal and made herself comfy. She then began to read it out aloud. March 3, 1981 I found myself in the hospital not knowing why or how I got here. I couldn't remember!! I was so scared because I didn't know what was going on. Then a nurse came in saying my family had been in a horrible crash and only I survived. I cried for the longest time feeling so alone. I cried for my family, but mainly I cried for myself because I couldn't remember anything, not even my parents. March 5, 1981 I'm in an orphanage now since they couldn't find anyof my relatives. It's so cold and depressing here and the lady Ms. Gisei who owns this place is mean. When I first got here I saw all the other kids standing around staring at me, I felt so uncomfortable. Briefly she introduced me to the other kids and ordered one of them to show me my room. The little girl brought me upstairs and to a small room in the back. I share it with 3 other boys I just met. After she left I went to the window and saw this place had a garden and left to go see it. It wasn't in the best of shape so from here on out, I'm taking care of the garden. Usagi flipped through a couple of pages briefly skimming them until she found another one to read. She felt so bad that Mamoru had to go through all this, to feel so lost and alone. She didn't know what she would have done if that ever happened to her when she was a child. Letting the thought leave her mind she continued to read. November 2, 1989 Today I left the orphanage. I finally saved enough money from my jobs to get an apartment. I'm 17 and living on my own. My friend Andrew, the one I met at school, is going to help me look for some furniture. I can't get much really, I don't have enough saved up. I am happy however that I not in that damn orphanage anymore! I'm finally free from Ms. Gisei's nagging. Can't say I'm going to miss it. The only thing I am going to miss are my roses. They look beautiful now in full bloom, but I had to leave them. I'll just start my own small garden here on my balcony. Well that's all for now, I have a lot of things I need to get done. November 5, 1989 You would never believe it, but just when I thought I wasn't going to be able stay here and go to school I received a check in the mail today! It's from both my parents savings in the bank and over the years it added up to be quite a lot! It's $65,000 dollars! I can get through college now!! I was about to cry, but held back. I haven't done that since the hospital and I'm not going to start now.....I still have a little money in my bank from my previous and current jobs. But now I better go deposit this before I lose it! Usagi continued to read into the sun's early morning rays, occasionally taking a break to look around his apartment and eat. She felt sympathy for him having to be alone for so many years without any family to help. But for some odd reason she also felt he didn't want any sympathy, he didn't need it. Mamoru was definitely a distinct person. He had this air around him that intrigued and beckoned her. He worked hard for what he wanted and eventually got it. She noticed that through out his whole journal he never once mentioned any girls. The only one he wrote about was a Raye he occasionally went out with, but nothing more. This tid bit of information made Usagi's heart soar! At least she knew he didn't have a girlfriend, but then again his last entry was a couple of weeks ago. Scanning back over the journal Usagi did find one entry that talked about a girl, it was in the very back on the last page, with no date. I would get these weird dreams everyonce in awhile. It's really strange because they started recently when I moved back here. It has a princess calling to me asking me to find her. I can't really make out her features but they look soft and flawless. The only thing I can tell is she has long blonde hair and these amazing blue eyes! I know I can't see her fully but I can tell she's beautiful. She's wearing a long silky dress that hug her curves and flow out a little above the waist. I can't describe it anymore than that she was breath taking. But I can't base my love on a dream. I just hope to someday find the right person who makes my heart beat fast. She doesn't have to have physical beauty, she has to be beautiful inside, sweet, caring and just lovable! I don't know. But someday I'll find her, my heart says there's someone out there waiting for me and one day we will meet and I'll know. Usagi was in tears. She never read anything more sweet and significant in her life. If she wasn't in love with Mamoru yet she definitely was now. `He's amazing!' She soon fell asleep on his couch a small smile lighting her face as she dreamed sweet dreams. A few short hours later, a sudden knock on the door brought her dreams crashing down into oblivion. Jumping from the couch she began to panic on whether on not to open the door. "Usagi? Are you there? Open up, it's Andrew!!" Immediately she relaxed and rushed to the door to find a very excited Andrew resting on the door frame gasping for air. "Andrew what's going on? Why are you....sweating??" "Mamoru just woke up! Come on, you have to see him." Abruptly Usagi shoved Andrew out of the door way causing him to fall into the far wall, locked the door and dragged a still blustering Andrew behind her begging for her to slow down. Soon after, the two arrived at the hospital and high tailed it to Mamoru's room only to be greeted with the sight of a beautiful lady with long black hair and dark violet eyes. She was sitting next to Mamoru holding his hand tightly as if she were afraid he would let go or disappear. She never once noticed him wince in pain as she tightened her grasp around his bruised hand. Mamoru looked up to see two people standing totally still in the entrance of the door. He didn't recognize either one of them and had a questioning look in his eyes. Slowly the blonde haired girl took a shaky step forward looking crestfallen. Mamoru studied her for moment as a flash of recognition crossed his eyes. She looked so familiar and her eyes captivated him, but he just couldn't place her. A sharp pain brought him back to reality and noticed that his `girlfriend' Raye was still squeezing his hand. Bringing his right hand up he pried her fingers off of him ignoring the hurt look that she gave him. Some how it didn't feel right being with her. He looked up a second time at the still immobilized couple. "Hello, do...do I know you?" he inquired. "Uh...yea you could say that. I'm...I'm your best friend Andrew. You don't remember me Mamoru?" His voice was low and bewildered. Andrew then turned to look at Usagi, she had tears building in her blue eyes but blinked them back before they could fall. Mamoru followed his gaze to the beautiful girl standing beside him. "Are you a friend, then?" he asked her, somehow the word `friend' didn't suit her. At first she hesitated then softly spoke. "Ye....yea you could say that. I'm Usagi." Something about her seemed so familiar and it was driving him crazy not knowing what. The sound of her voice....he had heard it before he was sure.....saying something he couldn't quite grasp. Raye then grabbed his hand again and held it almost possessively against her. He was surprised by the sudden movement then flinched as she once again squeezed his hand. Usagi noticed this and brought her right hand slightly up pointing her finger at them. "I..I think your hurting him miss." Raye turned to look at Mamoru and gently released him from her death grip but not completely letting go. He smiled a thankful smile at Usagi which she only half heartily returned. Raye turned to look at Usagi, an angry expression written on her face at first, but then it was replaced with a smug `he's mine..so back off' look. "I'm his girlfriend for your information. Right Mamoru?" She then glanced at him not really giving him a chance to say yes or no. "Anyway I think you should leave now he needs his rest." She said very rudely not caring if she hurt Usagi's feeling or not. She didn't need anyone messing up her new relationship, and Usagi was a threat...she was competition. Numbly Andrew nodded and pulled Usagi out of the room. They walked along the hospital halls in shock, Andrew had one arm draped around her shoulders, holding her close. As soon as they reached the car she broke down into uncontrollable sobs as they racked her small frame. Andrew did his best to try and calm the distraught girl in his arms, but to no avail did he succeed. "An....Andrew can...can you take me to....Mamoru's apartment? I...I left some stuff...there." Usagi replied in a small and broken voice. "Uh...sure Usagi, anything." He then turned to face the front and left for Mamoru's house. The whole ride there was spent in silence, it felt almost like there was a thick fog of sadness looming in the air around them, suffocating them. Andrew pulled up to the front and waited for her until she came back down. Usagi pulled the keys out from her pocket and shakily unlocked the wooden door to his apartment. She stood out in the hallway a moment longer until finally pushing it open. Cautiously stepping in she silently closed the door behind her and let her eyes wonder of the large room trying to memorize every detail in her mind. Shaking her head slightly as to clear her mind she took a deep breath and walked over to the couch to collect her things. After thoroughly checking that everything was in its place, she locked the door behind her and left with a heavy heart. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ "Usa-chan? How about we go out and see a movie tonight? You've been working so hard lately, it would do you some good..." Mina kindly suggested. It had been 3 days since Mamoru had awaken and 3 days since she found out about his `girlfriend'. Ever since that day Usagi had drowned herself in her work pushing herself to near exhaustion but never stopping. She had dark circles under her now dull lifeless eyes and her body was starting to get slimmer from lack of food. Everyone in the office was worried about her fearing that she would end in the hospital if she kept it up for much longer. "Hmm, no thankyou Mina-chan I think I'll just stay here" Usagi was never happyanymore and she always sounded sad or answered in an distant tone. Mina's blue eyes became hard and she stomped over to Usagi's desk grabbing her arm and pulling her up. "NO Usa-chan you have been working yourself too hard and you NEED to rest. We're going to get something to eat for you NOW" She was worried about Usagi as everyone else was, but she had had enough and she wasn't just going to sit aside and watch her rot. "No Mina-chan I don't feel like going so don't make me all right? Just leave." Mina almost backed down from her cold tone and icy eyes but firmly held her ground. "NO Usagi you are going whether you like it or not! I'm not just going to let you do this to yourself!" Mina said back just as coldy but then quickly softened her tone. "I'm worried about you Usa-chan and I don't like to see you like this. Please come with me." Usagi slumped her shoulders in defeat because she knew Mina was right. "Alright I'll go. I'm sorry Mina-chan....I didn't mean to yell at you." Crystalline tears welled up in her eyes and flowed freely down her tired face. "Hey it's okay...." Mina then brought her into a comforting hug and let her cry her pain away into her shoulder. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Mamoru and Raye were eating lunch at the small parlor Andrew owned and were conversing lightly to one another. Actually it was Mamoru who was doing all the listening while Raye continuously talked about herself. `How can she be my girlfriend? She's starting to get on my nerves!' Mamoru silently thought. He then turned to look at Andrew in the corner, he had an unhappy expression on his face but quickly turned away to walk in the back. Flashback After Andrew had taken Usagi home he decided to see Mamoru alone and talk to him. He hesitantly made his way to his room and knocked on the door. `please let him be alone' "Come in" Andrew tried his best to look casual but it looked like Mamoru was seeing through his whole charade. Giving it up he sat in the chair next to his bed. `He was always good at seeing through my acts.' "Hello Mamoru, how are you feeling?" "Good, I guess. Uhm... Andrew right? My...best friend?" He sounded so unsure and slightly untrusting, but that had always been Mamoru. `Some things never change' Andrew inwardly smiled to himself. "Yea, that's right. So you really don't remember anything do you? Nothing at all?" Mamoru studied Andrew for a moment longer. He felt like he could tell him almost anything and believed him when he said he was his best friend. Now Raye....that was a different story. "No.. I don't" he looked down in disappointment but then popped his head back up and looked Andrew in the eyes. "Could, could you tell me a little bit about myself? Since you're best friend and all." Andrew smiled at his expression, like a young boy begging for candy. He told him about his parents, the orphanage, school, and work. Mamoru sat quietly listening to him tell his life story, but one thing bothered him. Who was that girl he was with yesterday? Andrew had already gotten up to leave and was almost out the door when Mamoru stopped him. "Wait, Andrew. Could you tell me who you were with yesterday? That girl with the blonde hair. Who is she?" Pain seemed to flash through his eyes for a brief moment but he briskly recovered. "She's a friend of yours that cares for you very very much" and with that Andrew left, leaving Mamoru alone in the lonely hospital room to unscramble his jumbled thoughts. End Flashback Usagi had never come back to visit Mamoru and he often wondered why, wasn't she supposed to care for him? He thought it might have something to do with Raye and her attitude, which he could perfectly understand. Day by day Mamoru was truly convinced this `Raye' was not his girlfriend. Why is it she knew nothing about him, such as what he liked, avoided questions of his past, never knew of his dreams? She was always busy talking about herself and things she liked to do; it was starting to get old. Just then two blondes came in taking a seat in a booth across from them. It looked like one was trying to comfort the other by the look on her face. "Mina! I'm so glad you came by!" Andrew then walked over to her and gave her a quick peck on the lips and sat down next to her. He noticed Usagi looking down at the table with her hands in her lap. "Hi Usagi, how are you holding up?" He took a silent in drawn breath as he looked upon his once bright and cheery friend. She looked so different now, so unlike the person he knew. Andrew stood from his spot and pulled Usagi up from the booth and gave her a huge comforting hug resting his chin on her head. "It's okay Usagi, everything will work out some how." He reassuringly said. "Thanks Andrew. I think I'll just go to the ladies room and wash up real quick." She gave him a shaky smile as he slowly released her. Usagi was heading for the bathroom when she suddenly felt light headed and dizzy. She brought her hand up to her forehead and closed her eyes trying to push back the feeling of nausea as it overwhelmed her. "Usagi!" Andrew ran to her side, Mina and Mamoru in hot pursuit while Raye hung back angrily. He caught her before she could hit the ground and cradled her in his arms. For some reason Mamoru felt this feeling of fear grip his heart and he snatched Usagi from Andrew's arms, surprising him. Raye saw Mamoru take Usagi and watched as he held her petite body like she was some precious treasure. Angrily she stalked over to them and yanked on Mamoru's arms almost causing him to drop the unconscious girl. "What are you DOING Mamoru!? Put her down and let's leave." Mamoru turned and gave Raye a `go to hell and don't touch me' look. He had had enough of her and intended on telling her. "No Raye, I'm staying here and I would appreciate it if you would leave. I want some time alone." She stared at him in shock as her mouth hung open, her eyes flaming. Abruptly she turned her back to them and stormed out of the parlor. Mamoru then turned to look at two very s urprised faces staring at him intently. "Uh....hehe she was kind of getting on my nerves.. Anyway, what are we going to do about Usagi here?" He said quickly changing the subject. "What? Oh yea, uhm you live near by Mamoru why don't you bring her to your apartment?" Mina vigorously nodded her head in agreement and piped in. "Yea! Great idea Andrew! I'll go with you since I know her so well." She then grabbed his arm, being careful not to cause him to drop Usagi and dragged him out the door in a matter of seconds. Once outside he gingerly placed Usagi in the passenger's seat while Mina occupied the back. The first few minutes were spent in silence driving to his apartment. Every once in awhile Mina would catch him gazing at Usagi adoringly and slightly confused. "Mina can you tell me a little bit about Usagi?" He innocently asked. Startled, Mina looked at him through the rear view mirror to see his eyes back on the road. "Well......she's a very sweet, loving, and forgiving person. We both own the company 'Crescent Designs', model on occasion, and decorate houses. Actually, we just decorate our houses." Mina let out a small giggle at the thought. "Anyway, she's an only child but her parents died not too long ago. She loves to eat and go out with friends on weekends.......She's also a very motivated person and I admire her for that. Usagi has the biggest heart of anyone I have ever known and I love her like a sister......" Through Mina's short explanation he got the strangest feeling of deja vu. Like he had heard parts of it before, but it was someone else speaking....someone who sounded an awful lot like Usagi..... To be continued..........
