A Morning Coincidence part 7 By: Twilight Editor: SailorTwin Usagi and Mamoru stepped out from behind an open door both grinning widely. Quietly, they watched from a safe distance as Lita and Mina yelled some incomprehensible comment to Hotaru as they ran past her and waited impatiently for an elevator. "This is taking to looooong!" Mina whined, stomping her foot in frustration, "They'll be gone before we can follow them!" "Geez Mina-chan, you've been hanging around Usa-chan way too long! You're starting to sound like her!" Lita proclaimed, laughing. "Hmph! I do NOT sound like that!! I'm gonna go over there right now and tell her what I think!" Usagi huffed, and began walking towards them but stopped when strong arms wrapped around her waist, making her blush. "Nu uh....Where do you think you're going Usako?" Mamoru whispered into her ear chuckling, "Remember, we're supposed to wait for them to leave." He gently reminded, pulling her petite body closer to his, making her blush deepen. "Be quiet Lita-chan!! OH! Of course...why didn't I think of this sooner?!" Mina exclaimed, grabbing Lita's wrist and dragging her to a door labeled 'stairs'. "Nani?! Are you crazy?! That's 15 flights of stairs!" Lita's protesting voice rang along the echoing stair case long after the door closed behind them. "Well, that was something." Mamoru chuckled, still lightly holding Usagi. "I told you they would follow us." Usagi giggled, slipping out of his gentle embrace, her heart pounding so wildly that she was sure he could hear it. Walking away, she turned and smiled brightly at him, "C'mon. Time to eat!" She replied, happily skipping to the elevators. As soon as she approached them, one opened automatically, making Usagi giggle more as she pointed at it and turned to glance at the still immobilized Mamoru. Mamoru felt a loss of warmth when Usagi stepped away from him. Frowning, he remained still, wondering where such emotions came from, but when he saw her giggling about the elevators, he smiled. He just couldn't help but be happy when he was with her. Her cheery laughter, bright smile and loving heart were infectious. "I guess it likes us better than them." He smartly remarked, joining her inside the elevator. ~*~*~*~*~* Rita left of her apartment, heading for the arcade where Andrew worked. In a pair of fitted jeans and a light purple shirt, she smiled warmly as people passed her. Eagerly, she quickened her pace, anxious to see him again. Once Crown came into view, she relaxed her speed, trying her best to look calm and composed. Stepping in through the sliding doors, she glanced around the arcade, searching for the very familiar head of blonde hair. The smile returned to her lips when she spotted him sitting at a window booth, staring out through the translucent glass. Quietly, she walked to him and seated herself across the table from him, sitting on the cushioned chair. Reaching a hand across the smooth surface, she took hold of his hand and squeezed it lightly. Surprised, Andrew turned to look at the person in front of him, fully expecting to see Mina. Mina. Just her name made him smile. But the smile on his face faded briefly when he saw it wasn't her, but quickly pasted on another when he saw who it was. He wasn't expecting her. "Hi Rita. What are you doing here?" He asked, subtly removing his hand from hers. "Well, I came to see you, silly." She teased, a little hurt when he moved his hand away. Deciding not to think anything of it, she brushed it off and started a conversation, telling him everything that happened while she was away. Andrew listened with interested ears as his first love excitedly chattered away. 'Some things never change' he thought, smiling to himself. Looking at her, he remembered all the times they shared, happy and sad. She was still beautiful to him, though. Her porcelain face and chocolate brown eyes that always seemed to captivate him brought no flutter to his heart. The more he listened, the more he understood how he loved her. "What do you think, Andrew? Do you want to?" Rita inquired, reaching for his hand again. Blinking, he stopped his thoughts and turned his full attention back to her 'oops, I missed what she said' he thought, a little embarrassed. "Uhm..what? I'm sorry. I missed the last part" He replied, honestly not noticing their clasped hands. "Oh. I said we should go out tonight. Just me and you." She repeated, giggling. "Oh..Rita," Hearing the seriousness in his voice, she quickly stopped laughing, "I......I have something to tell you." ~*~*~*~*~* Mina and Lita had been running crazily around the entire city, looking for Mamoru and Usagi. They went to all of Usagi's favorite places, but still couldn't find them. Heaving a great sigh, the duo plopped themselves on a park bench, gasping for air. "You know Mina-chan," Lita huffed, bending her body to her knees, "for some reason this just isn't fun anymore. We've literally been EVERYWHERE and still nothing! I'm hungry!!" She complained, her voice sounding exhausted. "Yea...tell me about it!" Mina agreed, leaning back against the bench, turning her head upward. "I'm hungry, too. How about we go the small cafe where Andrew works and grab a bite there." She suggested, closing her eyes from the blistering bright sun. "You just wanna see your boyfriend!" Lita teased, acting like a child. "Oh, stuff it, Lita-chan! C'mon." Quickly standing, she walked away from her tired friend, leaving her behind. "Now that was uncalled for." Turning her head to look at Mina, she blinked once, looking at the empty spot her friend had occupied, then turned her head to the sidewalk and blinked again. When it finally registered that Mina was walking away from her, she quickly stood up, calling after her. "Hey, Mina-chan!! Wait up!" ~*~*~*~*~* "Hey, Mamo-chan, look." Usagi said, pointing to where Mina and Lita were sitting. "I think they finally gave up looking for us." She said giggling, sitting down on the blanket covered ground. "Yea, I guess so." He mumbled, not looking to where she was pointing, but at her. Turning to look back at him, she blushed a rosy pink and looked down shyly. Mamoru had surprised her by taking her to the park. Together, they sat on top of a hill overlooking the lake, away from everyone and everything. In peaceful bliss, they enjoyed each other's company, eating the delicious food Mamoru had prepared. ~*~*~*~*~* "You know, you could have waited! Some friend you are." Lita remarked indignantly, crossing her arms in front of her chest. "You were too slow." Mina teased as they approached the cafe. Upon seeing it, Lita started to speed up, but stopped when Mina grabbed her arm, holding her back. Confused and a little startled, she turned her brown eyes to look at her unmoving friend. She was standing there, a shocked expression on her beautiful face and her light blue eyes were beginning to shimmer with held back tears. Looking back to the cafe, she was surprised to see Andrew sitting with....was that Rita?! Holding hands?! Silently they watched as he told her something and smiled a little relieved. Standing, Andrew quickly kissed Rita on the cheek briefly before she made her way to the doors. Not wanting to believe what she was seeing, Mina quickly ran away, tears now freely falling. Looking at her fleeing friend, Lita looked back to the arcade and noticed Andrew now staring Mina's retreating form. With one last threatening look back, she took off after Mina, promising to kill Andrew later. ~*~*~*~*~* Breathing in deeply, he searched desperately for the words to say to his old love. 'I'm not in love with you anymore...no, that won't work.' He thought, still struggling to think. 'Oh oh, better hurry, Andy....she's looking at you that way!' "Andrew, what is it?" Rita asked, hinting for him to hurry up. "Uhm...I have a girlfriend." He finally blurted out, mentally cursing himself. 'OH that was good' "Oh?" She asked, her curiosity peaked. "Yea, we've been together for a few weeks now and..." "and?" Squeezing his hand she urged him to continue. "and I just wanted to say that I love you," wide eyed, she stared at him, "but I'm not 'in' love with you. I'm in love with Mina and I want to be with her." He whispered, breathing a sigh of relief that it was finally out. "Oh..." Nodding her head, she smiled shyly at him, "Well, I have a confession to make, too." At his confused face, she laughed lightly, "I have a boyfriend. I guess I just wanted to come back and see if there was anything still left between us." Andrew whispered a soft 'oh' and nodded in understanding. "I guess we've both moved on, huh? I just want you to know that I love you, too, but I'm in love with my boyfriend. I just wanted to be sure. We can still be friends though, right?" She asked in a small voice, hoping. "Of course! Friends." Andrew replied smiling, standing from the booth, he stood by her side. "Oh good. Well then, I have to go. Good bye Andrew" "Bye Rita" Quickly kissing her check he watched as she walked away. Something outside made him turn and his heart ached when he saw Mina running away. There was a tall girl standing there watching him, and it took him a moment to figure out who it was. 'Lita!' Gulping, he took a step back when he saw the threatening look she gave him before she took off after his love. "Oh boy..." ~*~*~*~*~* "That was a wonderful lunch, Mamoru. The best I've ever had, honestly." Usagi admitted as they walked back to her office. "Same here. Hey Usako..." Mamoru asked, suddenly sounding nervous. Turning to look at him, she smiled reassuringly, her eyes telling him that whatever he had to say would be all right. "The hospital is throwing together a banquet and I was wondering if you would like to go....with me." He asked, running his fingers through his jet black hair. "Hhhhmmm.....really?" A sly grin on her lips, "I'll have to think about it." She teased, walking into the building. Turning around, she smiled sweetly at him, making his heart pound. "I'll let you know." Closing the door behind her, she left for her office in a giddy mood. Laughing at her disappearing figure, he turned around and walked to his car all the while thinking of Usagi. When he reached the hospital, he just couldn't stop smiling and it angered Raye because she knew who made him smile. Silently, she discreetly followed him around wanting to know exactly 'why' he was so happy. "Mamoru." A male voice greeted from behing. Mamoru turned around to watch his old friend walk up to him. "Hello, Greg." Mamoru replied smiling widely (which didn't go unnoticed by Greg.) "I was wondering what you were smiling at?" Laughing at his friend, he lightly patted him on the back. "Well, I'm taking Usak...er Usagi to the hospital banquet...I think." He finished, with a note of uncertainty in his voice that made Greg laugh. "I see! Hey Usagi, Ami's friend, right? I know her. She's a really sweet lady...pretty too. Hey, you guys would go well together!" Greg complimented, smiling at his friend. "Yea, uhm Arigato." Blushing, his eyes suddenly seem to get a far away look, "She is beautiful, isn't she?" Shaking his head, Greg rested his hand on Mamoru's shoulder looking down, "Man, you've got it bad." He muttered before turning and walking away, leaving Mamoru to dream alone. "So he asked 'Usako' to the banquet!" Raye spat hatefully, "We'll just see about that. I have a busy week a head of me." Smirking, she took off down the corridors leaving the hospital. ~*~*~*~*~* Running, blinded by tears, to her apartment she collapsed to the sofa, shaking. 'Oh Andy' she mentally cried, burying herself deeper into the cushions of the couch. Lita tiredly ran into her apartment a few seconds later, breathing heavily 'Man, I have got to work out more!' Seeing the sobbing form, she quickly pulled her into a hug, stroking her hair while rocking back and forth. "Hey....it'll be okay Mina-chan. It has to be some kind of misunderstanding." Lita quietly whispered. 'Well it damn well better be, or I'll kick his sorry ass out of Japan!' After a few more minutes of crying, Mina gently pushed herself away from Lita and smiled slightly before heading to the kitchen. Grabbing a clear glass, she poured herself some water and quickly drank it down before taking a seat at the table. Staring intently at her clasped hands she absently thought about how Usagi must feel when it came to Mamoru. 'Poor Usa-chan....Andy' Finally taking notice of Lita sitting across from her she smiled, slightly embarrassed. "Gomen Lita-chan for uhm....breaking down like that. But arigato for being there." Pasting on a forced smile, she easily stood from the table, "How about we head back to work. I don't want Usa-chan to worry about us." At Lita's doubtful look, she quickly continued flinging her arms in front of her, "I'll talk to Andrew later, okay? I'll be fine." Grabbing her friend's hand she pulled her from the table, out of the apartment and dragged her along the crowded sidewalk. 'I can mope about this later....if Usagi can deal with it, then so can I.' ~*~*~*~*~* Gliding into her office, she lazily sat down in her chair and sighed loudly. Her lunch with Mamoru had been heaven, pure heaven! Closing her sapphire eyes she smiled at the thought of him and giggled, bringing a hand up to her mouth to stifle her laugh. "What are you giggling at, Usa-chan? Are you thinking of your 'Mamo-chan'?!" Lita teased, walking in with Mina following behind. "Huh?" Snapping her eyes open, she blushed a deep pink, turning away. "Hi guys. Yea, so what of it? Leave me alone, Lita-chan!" Usagi said, sticking her tongue out at Lita, causing her to laugh. Twirling around in her chair, she giggled again like a young school girl but then stopped to look at her friends and blushed under their amazed expressions. "Anyway, I knew you guys would try to follow me and waste your precious lunch hour," Seeing their shocked expressions, she smiled wider "so I saved you both sandwiches from mine and Mamo-chan's lunch." Grabbing two wrapped sandwiches from a brown paper bag, she handed it to her two friends who swiftly inhaled them. "Hey Mina-chan, did you see Andrew today?" At her innocent question, Mina's eyes fell suddenly, alarming her, "What's wrong, Mina-chan? What happened?" Blinking back hot tears, she started to tell her what happened but someone knocking on the door interrupted her. Turning around she was shocked to see Andrew standing there with a single white rose and an apologetic look on his face that made her want to melt. "Hi Mina, I called your office but you weren't in, so I came by. Can I talk to you.....privately?" He sincerely asked. "Whatever you have to say you can say it here." Lita snapped, standing from her chair, glaring at him. "It's okay Lita-chan" Mina assured, placing a comforting hand on her shoulder. "No, it's NOT okay! I want to know what happened in the cafe!" Lita hissed angrily, refusing to step down. Turning pleading eyes to Usagi, Mina silently asked for some help. Sighing, Usagi turned to Lita and spoke in a commanding voice unlike her usual sweet one. "Lita-chan! Stop this right now," Surprised at her tone, Lita looked to her always innocent friend, "This is between Mina-chan and Andrew," Looking him intently in the eye, she continued, never letting them waiver, "If they don't clear things up, THEN we'll step in." Slumping her shoulders in defeat, Lita plopped back down in her chair, knowing she was right. Swallowing the lump growing in his throat, he smiled shakily. 'I forgot how protective they were. Reminder to self...never get on their bad side.' Waiting patiently for Mina by the door, he quietly followed her to her office, trying to think of what to say. Standing, she strolled over to her desk and sat down, resting her arms on the surface looking very professional. "So explain" Mina said rather bluntly. 'Please tell me this is all a big mistake' Coughing nervously, he walked behind her desk, took hold of her hands and turned her to him, praying she wouldn't pull away. "Who you saw in the cafe was my ex-girlfriend, Rita." Turning her head away from him, she felt the tears building in her eyes not bothering to hold them back this time. Releasing one of her hands, he tenderly placed his hand under her chin and turned her to look at him, "But that's why she is my ex. I'll always love her, she was my first love....but I love 'you'. I am in love with 'you' What you saw was us saying good bye," Taking the white rose from the desk, he brought it up to her face and traced her quivering lips, "Forgive me?" Flinging her arms around his neck, she hugged him close to her, crying tears of relief. "Of course I forgive you!" Putting his arms around her he held her tight, happy that everything turned out okay. "That was so sweet!" Usagi squeaked out, wiping the tears from her face. "Yea" Lita whispered, her eyes brimming with her own tears as she smiled for her friend. "Okay guys....you can come in now." Mina called out, making both girls gasp but both remained unmoving. "Maybe...maybe if we don't go in, she'll think we're not out here!" Lita said trying to sound convincing. Usagi stifled a giggle at her friend's ridiculous plan, trying to remain quiet. "Yea..maybe." Mina remarked, hands resting on her hips. Jumping, both girls turned their heads toward their always sweet friend and waved innocently. ~*~*~*~*~* "Excuse me Hotaru, can you tell me if Usa-chan is in?" A young lady politely asked. "Yes Ami, but they just went into a meeting and I don't know when they will be out." Hotaru replied. "Oh...okay well then could you...." "Ami-chan? Is that you?" Lita suddenly asked, coming out from Usagi's office. "Lita-chan!! Wow, is it really you? What are you doing here?" Running to give her a hug, she smiled brightly, happy to see her long time friend. "It sure is. How about we hang out the rest of the day?" Lita suggested as Ami nodded her head in agreement. "Uhm...Hotaru, could you please tell Usa-chan and Mina-chan I went out with Ami and I'll see them later?" She asked, turning back to Hotaru. "Sure thing, Lita. Have a good day." She nicely said, waving good-bye. ~*~*~*~*~* The Next Day Usagi woke up again to the wonderful aroma of Lita's cooking. Quickly changing into slacks and a long sleeved fitted button up pink shirt she skipped into the kitchen. Smiling warmly at Lita, she poured herself a glass of orange juice and walked back into the bathroom to finish getting ready. Combing her long golden hair, she pulled it into a tight bun with loose tendrils framing her face. Grabbing a curling iron, she quickly curled them and headed back for the kitchen wanting to eat while the food was still warm. "Did you have fun with Ami yesterday?" Usagi asked, stacking her plate with food. "Yup, we mostly just sat around catching up on old times. Did you know Greg asked her to the hospital banquet?" Lita stated sitting at the table. "I figured he would. The are so cute together, don't ya think?" "Oh, what a boring day!" Usagi mumbled under her breath. Standing from her desk she paced around her spacious office, thinking about Mamoru. "Miss Tsukino?" Hotaru called from behind the door. Peeking in, she smiled warmly at her, "You have a delivery here." "REALLY?!" Usagi squeaked, walking towards her. "Yup...." Opening the door entirely, she showed her the small crystal vase filled with a dozen pure white daises. Taking hold of the vase, she thanked her and brought them into her office. Setting them down on a small corner table she smiled fondly mentally thanking Mamoru. The roses he gave her the other day were sitting on the corner of her desk and she refused to take them down. It always cheered her up, knowing who gave them to her. Pulling the tiny card from the batch of flowers she quickly opened it. Dear Usako, How about lunch again? Say the same time? Meet me at the cafe...I'll be waiting. Mamoru Rereading the note, she looked at it strangely. Something didn't seem right about it. Shrugging off her uneasy feeling, she glanced down at her watch and smiled. It was about time to leave for lunch. Grabbing her purse, she quickly told Mina and Hotaru she was leaving for a bit and left for the cafe, anxious to spend another lunch with Mamoru. To be continued...
