SME 4.0 at the Blue Ridge Motorcycle Campground  in Cruso, North Carolina

June 18-20, 1999

Here you see Dan Even and myself (Greg Terpin) getting ready to head out from Naperville, IL.  BTW... I did wear gloves and didn't realize I was that short as compared to Dan. :-(

Pictured here is the entrance to the Blue Ridge Motorcycle Campground (BRMC) as taken from inside the campground.

This is your typical cabin at the BRMC.  Some of the older (original) cabins have a front porch.  Pictured is Dan Even's 1985 VF42.5 Sabre and my 1983 V65 Magna.

Here's another shot of the BRMC from within.  In the foreground one sees the shower and toilet facilities.  Yes... we actually had running water, toilets that flushed and hot showers.  In the background is where breakfast and dinner was served.  In between the buildings is where the evening campfires were lit.

Since our arrival was towards late Friday evening... most 'maggots had already eaten their dinner(s).  Pictured is Troy from WI, Martin Gerald (aka Harvey Hexnut) walking, Dale S (wearing jeans jacket with Honda patch on back) and Mark Muelhausen.

Here we see Ron Rosensweet and Richard Wainwright finishing up breakfast in anticipation of a FULL day of riding.

Remember Pat Coffee?  Well... he was hanging out at the Crossroads of Time (CRoT) when we arrived to ride the Dragon.  Here's a pic of his custom painted Interceptor.  I'm told he was also at the BRMC Friday evening but was already gone by the time I arrived.  What?  You guys (and gals) didn't make him feel welcomed???  Anyway... he didn't stick around all that long... said he was tired of riding the Dragon... but still blasted up the thing a short while later.

Here's some of us making it without incident to the top of the Dragon.  Pictured is David Ryder, Gadget Dan Pierce (with the hat on), Dale S's backside shot, Janine Brannon, Mike Alewine's back (before his mishap) and Lynne S.

Since Dan Even was one of the last one's up the Dragon... we made him stand guard over the bikes... :-).  Just kidding.  Actually he handled his baby Sabre quite nicely as I was chasing him around most of the morning.

Another shot of Gadget Dan, Janine and Lynne taking a break before our trek down the Dragon.

Not sure what the name of this dam was... but it could be seen from where we were relaxing at the top of the Dragon.

Another scenery shot from atop the Dragon.  We don't have visuals this nice in the Chicago area...

It's not so obvious... but that's Mike Alewine's V65 Magna after he rode down the Dragon.  You might be able to note that he's missing his fairing, the headlight being slightly busted up and the left front damaged turn signal.

I believe this was when David Ryder was adjusting his suspension setting(s) to accommodate Mike Alewine riding as soft luggage and get him back to the BRMC.  Poor Mike... not only was he in pain... but he had to endure Ryder's riding for the next several hours taking the LONG way back. :-)

While getting ready to enter the Blue Ridge Parkway (BRP)... we came upon Erik Kauppi and his friend Wyn.  Here we were discussing which way we needed to ride on the BRP to get back to the general direction of the BRMC.  Pictured is David, Janine, Mike, Wyn and Erik.

Once back at the BRMC, we see Richard Wainwright, Kevin Kirkendal, David Ryder and Janine Brannon discussing the the day's riding.  They later told me they were talking about me. :-(

Here we see master mechanic Bob Peloquin (shiny glow on head) taking the lead on getting Mark MacKinnon's newly acquired 1985 V65 Sabre roadworthy.  Good thing Mark knew what needed to be replaced and/or fixed on the bike before picking it up as he had brought all the parts with him.  He even bought a SuperBrace to replace the obviously cracked stock brace.  Speaking of fork braces... I still have a few left.  I didn't want seem like a traveling salesman... so I wasn't pushing the fact that I packed a few with me.

Houston... we have ignition!!!  Pictured is Dan Even (far left), Mark MacKinnon (tall thin 'maggot wearing black T-shirt), Steve Stokes (background wearing light blue T-shirt), Bob again and Beaver Koch.

Anyway... it's been mentioned that if you need work on your bike... just trailer it down to the next (or any) SME.  I believe Lori has even insinuated that she might take us up on the offer.  Just bring plenty of liquid refreshments... and I'm sure you'll be fixed up. :-)

Here we have Ozzie lighting the candles (many) on ZimBob's birthday cake using the zippo lighter that Mark MacKinnon brought for distribution.  Pictured is Beaver, ZimBob, Janine, Ozzie (lighting candles), Troy and Gadget Dan.

Here's another shot of the candle lighting ceremony.  Ozzie had to refill his zippo to accommodate all the candles that had to be lit for ZimBob.

Here's a close-up of ZimBob contemplating his wish before blowing out the many candles.

Here's ZimBob hamming it up with Janine before blowing out his candles.  Again... also pictured is Beaver.

After much huffing and puffing... ZimBob was able to blow out all his candles in one shot.  He did this without blowing out his teeth. :-)

And lastly... here we are so close to home and we STILL have to break out the map!!!  Pictured here is Dale S, Dan Even and Lynne S.

If I've misspelled or misrepresented your name in any way... please let me know and I'll make the necessary correction(s).  I had a great time and am looking forward to the next gathering of us biker scum. :-)

Thanks to Jack Hunt for providing me with the idea for this format.
