first off, let's cruise the cosmetics because we like nail polish. Oh, what's this? could it be anne's favorite color of nail polish (well, as of current that is)? Why yes! It's Gash by Urban Decay! At eleven bucks a bottle, it's no cheap thrill, but Anne recommends that you smack down the cash to get one of these grotesquely named luxuries (the name is half the fun). next up, we're headin' for da cyberbookstore. All the ease of virtual stores, but with all the info of a real bookstore, it's Barnes and Noble's. We'll highlight a few fine selections...

Song of Solomon by Toni Morrison. The woman is a prime storyteller. She can wrap you up in her words without you even knowing it. The book might seem muddled and confusing in the beginning (a trademark of Morrison books) but once you start unraveling the story, and everything ties together, you sit there going "oh my god! so that's what happened..." There are words in here that will make you weep, make your jaw hang, or make you redefine the term "freedom".
People in Trouble by Sarah Schulman. One of Beth's favorites of all time. Anne also owns it and loves it. Schulman often writes novels about being gay, living in NYC, etc. etc. The reading is pretty easy, but very interesting. She sets a situation that involves people living with AIDS holding ralleys to take hold of the city to get medical attention. There is also a situation between two women lovers, a lesbian and a married woman. It's a quick read, take it on a bus somewhere, but definitely read it.
A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess. Guess what? This is Anne's favorite book and she even got her AP English class to watch the movie despite its graphic content. How much fun is that? This book is a dark political satire, poking fun at youth, destruction, sexual impulses and other things that fuel human instinct. And then there's the whole brainwashing thing. Just read it. That nadsat slang Burgess uses takes a little gettin' used to, but so does the taste of cabbage.

Sleater-Kinney- Dig Me Out - a punkgrrl's dream. And they're so cute.
Erykah Badu- Baduizm - smooth, soulful. Erykah moves ya.
The Murmurs - self-titled - folky, high-pitched indigo-alterna-girl stuff. With that "you suck" tune.
Indigo Girls- self-titled - kid fears with michael stipe is supreme. Classic indigo girl goodness.
All Over Me -Soundtrack - a mish-mash of lotsa girl-headed bands that goes along with this great flick.
Stealing Beauty - Soundtrack - some trip hop, some jazz, some folky stuff. Beautiful mix.

we could think of so many others, but guess what, you can only hang in the music section so long before ya run plum outta cash. Okay, and ya know what, that's all we like to spend our money on. Clothes are fun, but there isn't a www.salvationarmyclothing.com site. Dammit. Internet thrift stores, we feel, are sketchy at best. So, skip the clothes and crap. Stick to the fun stuff..
