"William Sorrels was born between 1780 and 1790, probably in North Carolina, died before 1850... William's heirs in the property settlement (Butler County Deed G, p. 655 , 17 October 1853) were: Margaret Sorrels, Sarah Sorrels, James W.Sorrels, Elizabeth W. Sorrels, J.R. Sorrels, and Margaret Hall.
( Sons William and George would not have been of legal age by 1853, and there may have been a guardian appointed to receive their shares.)

Elizabeth W. may have been Elizabeth Drake, wife of James W. Sorrels

William was the son of John Sorrel, Revolutionary War soldier who was born about 1759 (according to 1840 census of Revolutionary War soldiers he was 81) However, he was identified as age 66 in February 1822 when he applied for a pension while a resident of Butler Co., Ky. He is believed to be the John Sorrils in the 1782 tax list of Rutherford Co., N.C. and also the John Sorrils in the 1790 census of Rutherford Co., as well as the John Sorrels in the 1800 census of Rutherford County; he may also be the John Sorrels in the 1810 census of Barren Co., Ky. He was on the 1820 Butler Co ., Ky. census and the Butler Co. tax lists from 1818-1843

John Sorrel enlisted in North Carolina on May 1, 1780 for 10 months service during the Revolutionary War. The name of his wife is not known. His children were: William, David who was married to Sarah "Sally" Petty, Charlotte married to Theophalus Petty, Claracy married to William Petty, Peggy married to John Petty and Christian married to Titus Bennett.

John K. Sorrels was born about 1830 in Butler Co., Ky. and may have died before 1900. In 1850, Butler Co. census, John age 20 is a farmhand at a dwelling other than his parents . In 1860 he was living in the Caney District, Briggs Mills P.O., Ohio Co. Ky. In 1870 and 1880 he was living in the Hartford District, Ohio Co., Ky. His 1st marriage was in Ohio Co., Sept. 10, 1852 to Lucinda Bradley nee Arendell (Arnold?) born about 1832 in Kentucky. John appears to be a widower in 1880, Ohio Co. 9 children are identified.\line John K. Sorrels 2nd marriage was March 31, 1881 in Ohio Co . to Hannah Ezell. He was 50. She was 35. There may have been a daughter Lizzie by this marriage.
