EXPLANATION

Market street and Laclede Avenue is the dividing line of all streets crossing them. North of this line are North Main, North Second, etc.; south, South Main, South Second. The numbering of all houses fronting on public streets is arranged as follows: The odd numbers apply to the north and west sides of the streets and the even numbers to the east and south sides.

The general rule is that one hundred numbers shall represent each block, going westwardly from the Wharf, and a like number for each block north and south from Market Street and Laclede Avenue. In order to find the location of any particular street, place or avenue, you will find, by the reference to the names, it begins at No. _____ Street, and ends at No. _____ Street. Thus Allen Avenue commences at 2001 South Broadway, and runs west to 2000 Compton Avenue.
