Every once in a while we dream about living in a place we can call paradise, a place which is safe & secure, a place which caters to our needs. And not until so long ago the place that was in every Indian’s mind was BOMBAY or MUMBAI, as some would say. But don’t forget the phrase ‘until so long ago’, ‘cause in the recent times there is hardly anyone who would want to flock to this city to earn his bread. Forget paradise the place is not even secure enough. Everyday people read about underworld-shootouts, jewelry stores being robbed in broad daylight, …. It is this lack of security that is making industrywallahs search for new hunting grounds and flock to newer places. Speed was once upon a time synonymous to Bombay but have a look around today and you would want to make it an antonym. The RAILWAYS or the so-called blood lines of Bombay hardly ever run on time and operate at speeds as low as 15 Km/hr. when they are supposed to be doing 75Km/hr.

This does not mean I’m blaming any department of our state but these are not signs of strength. From a position of considerable significance we are slowly losing our identity. Our identity as a state of power & wealth, our identity as a state of free culture & above all our identity as stiff competitors. If someone is saying I’m living in a world of dreams then why is the economy of the state suffering a setback? Why did Kellogs & Wharton purchase 175 acres of land in New Bombay and start discussions with other states? The fact that the state government pressurised an upcoming Class-A Business School for 10% reservation proves the fact that these folks lack not only entrepreneur skills but also a Vision.

Long gone are the days when Bombay Police Dept. was considered next only to the Scotland Yard. Today hunting down a human being is as easy as popping a tablet down your throat. Recent surveys record that Businessmen prefer setting up their Head Offices in different cities rather than Bombay, the prime cause being the lack of security.

Do we want to convert our Paradise into a new Chicago?

If not than we had rather do something about it instead of sitting quietly and let the Underworld take over our lives like a mother takes over her newly born child. It is for these reasons that this month we will concentrate on Bombay and the serious battles that will be coming our way in near future.
