As opposed to his actual origin, in the pilot episode, Peter Parker was conducting the experiment himself when the spider was bombarded with radiation. Later, it hid near Parker's text books and bit him as he went to pick them up.
Peter Parker went on to design his own web shooter at the university lab. He then tested it at a nearby park, shooting a line of webbing at a branch of a tree and swinging from it.

These three wall crawling pics are from where Spider-Man rescues Tyler from jumping out of the hospital window. (If you look closely, you can see the wire that supports the stuntman attached to his waist).

Spidey Appears again at the building to put a stop to the villain but this time, he is met on the roof by the three henchmen, but this time they are ready for him. Just as Spider-Man makes his escape as before by shooting out a webline, the henchmen pull out flame throwers and burn his webline as he swings across the street. Plummeting down to the street, Spider-Man barely saves himself by grabbing hold of a statue situated on the ledge of the building. This, however, causes him to injure his arm.

Running down the back alleys and keeping to the shadows, Spider-Man spots a taxi cab and tries to get a ride home. Unfortunately, the cab driver notices that there are no pockets in the costume and comes to the conclusion that he has no money. The next scene we see Spider-Man lying in the back of a garbage truck, slowly making his way home. The old Spidey-luck running true to form.

Comments About this Episode

This movie introduced the world to Spider-Man but it wasn't met with too much enthusiasm from the fans. The origin is very different from the comic version that fans have grown up with and become accustomed to. Spider-Man doesn't become a TV star and his uncle is not shot and killed by a burgular.

No super-powered villains were pitted against Spider-Man, rather an old hypnotist and his threesome of a cross between Sumarai and Ninjas who used long wodden staffs as weapons. The fight between them and Spider-Man is quite enjoyable though....

It is actually Jameson and Robbie Robertson (who never appears again) who coin the name "Spider-Man" and give Peter the idea for the costume here. Where Peter gets the costume and material to build the web shooters is never fully explained. the pilot includes some of the few scenes of Spidey actually swinging on his webline, a costly and dangerous effect. Unlike wall-climbing effects on batman (the only previous show to use this), many shots of Spider-Man climbing buildings were done live in downtown New York, with invisible wires.
