This formation, by far, is one of the most used. Of course, as with any
formation, it comes with
advantages and disadvantages
though the former outweight the latter by volumes. As advantages: the
wingleader is able to see
and follow the line of Thread; the larger dragons are able take down the
brunt of Thread, leaving the
smaller and more agile dragons to char any clumps left over as well
as chase any errant Thread;
and the formation itself is easily stackable and varied, making it the
second most desired formation
to use. As disadvantages: The wingleader and seconds can't see
what's going on behind them
without taking their eye off the leading edge (though with an
experienced group, this is
not a problem, per se); and verbal communication is next to impossible,
though draconic and hand signals
are not hindered. However, this formation works well for any
group with a Wingleader that
is most comfortable with working with hand signals or draconic
communication. It also works
well with weyrlings, as judging the space is easily done. The
