The house has been in the Whitlock
Family since January 1925 it was
originally the old Potts Place.
Research on the history of the old
home place is still ongoing but its’
suspected to have been built around
the turn of the century or maybe
earlier, built by Mr. Thomas Potts a
prominent citizen of Newnan. Probably
constructed by R. D. Cole Company
and the materials were supplied
by them.
The information here was given by
Mr. Buford Whitlock. After the recent
death of his brother Dennis, Buford is
the last resident of the old home
place. The three other living
siblings, Adell, Myrtle, and Wendell
Whitlock still live close by.

Gear House
Where gear for the mules and
for other equipment was kept.
Livestock Barn
Could hold up to six mules. Also hay
loft to keep winter feed for the stock.

This barn was built by the Whitlock’s
Old Stock Barn
Probably built by Mr. Potts.
Part of it was removed in later years.
Cotton Barn
After the cotton was picked it was
brought and stored here and prepared
for sale.Later years the family would
keep Ginnys here. Along with Ginnys
they had two Peacocks and a flock of
white geese. Once a band of dogs came
on the farm and killed many
of the Geese
Smoke House
After hog killing time this is
were they were salted down and kept.
Potato House
Foreground is the foundation where
it stood. Is where sweet potatoes, etc.
were kept after picking.
