Safe Havens, Inc.
Who We Are
Many pregnant and young parents are either homeless or living in high-risk situations. Safe Havens, Inc. is a private non-profit organization created to address these problems. Safe Havens, Inc. is a transitional living facility for emancipated minors and young adults up to age 21 who are either pregnant or the parent of one child. The house is located in Northeastern Connecticut, and serves those from this area. The primary goal of Safe Havens, Inc. is to provide stable housing, and a nurturing environment for up to four years. Thus, the program enables young mothers to create and attain personal goals such as education, job training, and parenting skills. This increases their chance for successful independent living in the future. Safe Havens, Inc. is not an institutionalized, crisis intervention program. It is a stabilizing program used by those who are able to benefit from it. Residents pay rent on a sliding scale while actively going to school or working while parenting one child. These young women join the program to create and learn how to provide a supportive family atmosphere for themselves and their child. They also do so to help themselves become economically independent by the time they leave Safe Havens.
A Big thankyou to the Women and Children First website for these awards.
