"To you, Sons of Confederate Veterans, we submit the vindication of the Cause for which we fought; to your strength will be given the defense of the Confederate Soldier's good name, the guardianship of his history, the emulation of his virtues, the preservation of those principles he loved and which made him glorious and which you also cherish. Remember it is your duty to see that the true history of the South is presented to future generations." -Lt. General Stephen Dill Lee
If elected your Division Commander, I will...
-Insure that the Old Dominion Voice will be published and mailed to each compatriot each quarter. The Newsletter is the most important communications linkage that we have to keep the membership informed of Division events. A camp and brigade "corner" for events will also be added so support can be given to the local levels.
- Work with and encourage each Brigade to unite to accomplish the goals of the Division. The Brigade commander is an essential element to the success of the Division. The Camps of the Brigade can be served and united by the leaddership of their Brigade Commander.
-Work to make the Camp Commander a member of the Division Executive Council. The North Carolina Division SCV has very successfully worked their Camp Commanders into a united arm of the Division, and as your Division Commander I will work fervently for a Constitutional Amendment to our Constitution to bring Camp Commanders onto the Division Council.
-Encourage all camps to take an educational inventory of what is being offered in their local schools. We must have knowledge of what is being taught (or not taught) about our Southern History and Heritage. The future of our Southland depends on our youth having knowledge of their heritage. The great orator and statesman, Edmund Burke, wrote:
-Work to have the General Assembly of Virginia make April Confederate History and Heritage Month an ongoing observance, rather that just a Proclamation by the Governor each year. To complement this, I will initiate a Division wide History & Heritage Month Essay Contest in the schools.
-Work to build a viable Heritage Defense Fund to put an end to this "Ethnic Cleansing of Dixie".
-Initiate a Recruitment Committee to work and organize more camps, and to revitalize those that are weak and in need of support by bringing them back as an active organization within their communities.
-Work to acquire a Division Headquarters, preferably in the Richmond area, to help serve the purposes of the Division as a place to meet, a storage facility, and a base of operations for public relations.
-After the election of the new officers for the 2000-2002 term, I will hold two training and orientation meetings so that the officers will be familiar with the duties of their office.
"Sirs, you have no reason to be ashamed of your Confederate Dead; see to it they have no reason to be ashamed of you."
- R. L. Dabney, Chaplain to General Thomas J. Jackson
