History: The Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, was founded by German immigrants from
Alsace Lorraine who wished to practice their religion and customs using the German language.
They settled in and around East Amherst and helped build the community.
The hamlet of East Amherst was know as Transit Station.
The cemetery was originally located on Transit Road south of Muegel Road. Except for the rear window,
all of the stained glass windows are original. The German inscription over the door translates
"Trinity Lutheran Church"
