St. Stephen's Cemetery
Baseline Road
Grand Island, Erie, New York

"Inscriptions on the remaining tombstones in the older burial grounds
of St. Stephen's Cemetery, Grand Island, New York."

History: This cemetery was founded in 1862, in conjunction with the formation of St. Stephen's Roman Catholic Church parish shortly before that year.

It is assumed the burials in this cemetery began coinciding with the establishment of this church;
however one or two graves were found indicating burials prior to that time.

Conditions of Cemetery: This cemetery is in very good condition; well maintained, well manicured. no visible signs of vandalism. little stone deterioration.

Directions: Take I-90 north to exit 19. turn right on Whithaven Road to first traffic light.
Then right on baseline Road....St. St. Stephen's is approx. 500 feet from the intersection, on the right side of Baseline Road.
During July 1997, I walked this old section and recored the tombtone inscriptions; This listing was updated July 2003
