WorldBeat Productions
Since its inception in 1980, WorldBeat Productions has gained recognition as a
driving force in the promotion of cultural arts in San Diego. As our number of
sucessful presentations grows, so does our commitment to provide an even wider
exposure to a variety of diverse multicultural artists.
We have presented
over 50 concerts locally, including artists such as
- U-Zulu Dance Theatre of South Africa,
- Obo Addy of Ghana,
- Fela Anikulapo Kuti of Nigeria,
- Pato Banton of the U.K.,
- Eek-A-Mouse of Jamaica,
in a variety of
events such as
- Ethnic Dance Festival,
- the International Dance and Music Festival,
- Benefit for the Rainforest,
- Benefit for the Pala Indian Reservation,
- the Annual Bob Marley Birthday Celebration.
WorldBeat productions has directed the production and airing of the
"Reggae Makossa Show" on local television stations, and also publishes
a biannual newspaper, "One WorldBeat", distributed to 15,000 via direct mail
and key business outlets. We collaborate with a number of other arts organizations,
schools and businesses, lending our expertise in concert promotion for benefit
concerts and other artistic ventures.
Featured Event
To accomplish our promotions and activities, WorldBeat Productions relies
heavily on the work of committed volunteers and supporters. We have also
received funding from the California Arts Council, COMBO, and the City of
San Diego Commission for Arts and Culture.
We need volunteers to help distribute flyers, make telephone calls, and do
the necessary fundraising work for the WorldBeat Center.
All contributions are greatly appreciated. As a nonprofit organization,
donations to the WorldBeat Center and WorldBeat Productions are tax deductible.
