Hunters must be properly licensed and obey all applicable federal, state, and base regulations. WPAFBR 126‑2, Hunting, Fishing and Boating on Wright‑Patterson AFB, is the applicable local regulation. Additional information may be obtained from Base Natural Resources Manager, extension

ELIGIBILITY: All active duty and retired military members, active and retired DOD civilian employees, members of the reserve components of the military, and immediate families thereof, are eligible to hunt on Wright‑Patterson AFB. Bona fide guests of any eligible hunter may also hunt; however, guests must be with a sponsor at all times when hunting.
LICENSING REQUIREMENTS: Hunters must also comply with all applicable federal, state, and base licensing requirements. In addition to a Wright‑Patterson AFB hunting license, all hunters, regardless of age, must have on their possession a valid state of Ohio hunting license except for active duty military on annual leave. Hunters 16 years of age and under must be accompanied by an adult. Additional licensing requirements exist for deer, pheasants, and waterfowl. The following is a summary of license costs:
SMALL GAME HUNTING: The following game may be taken during established seasons prescribed by Ohio and federal laws within the dates established by the natural resources working group: squirrel, rabbit, pheasant, fox, mourning dove, grouse, migratory waterfowl, raccoon, opossum, woodcock, woodchuck and crow. Some game may be hunted outside the boundary of the licensed hunting preserve, only in designated areas along Mad River and Sandhill Road (see map in Bldg. 892) during season dates. If in doubt check with Base Natural Resources Manager, extension 7‑5899. Only shotguns with size shot no larger than number 6 (lead) or number 3 (steel) may be used on upland game. Hunting with rifles or pistols is not permitted.
LICENSED SHOOTING PRESERVE: Hunting within the licensed shooting preserve will begin on Saturday, 8 Nov 08 and continue through Sunday 8 Mar 09. In accordance with the schedule posted in the Rod & Gun Club, Bldg. 892, pheasants will be stocked on selected days throughout the weekends and some holidays. The daily fee on release days is $20.00 and the daily limit is two pheasants per hunter. There is no charge for hunting on non‑release days; however, hunters are not permitted in the fields prior to 1000. Each hunter may have only one dog in the field at any time on release days. Individuals who come out specifically to train a dog must also purchase a daily permit regardless of whether or not they carry a gun.
DEER ARCHERY SEASON: Archery (or bow) hunting for deer is permitted within the licensed shooting preserve from 27 Sep 08 through 1 Feb 09. Deer hunters must be out of the licensed hunting preserve prior to 1000 but may return after 1400 during the pheasant release season. Hunting is also permitted in designated areas along both sides of the Mad River and on a portion of base property near Sandhill Road from 1 Oct 08 through 1 Feb 09. In a portion of the base, between Riverview Road and the perimeter fence (vicinity of the LOX plant) and the Prime BEEF Training Area (except for the days the Prime BEEF area is used for training), hunting is permitted from 27 Sep 08 through 1 Feb 09. Check with the Base Natural Resources Manger, extension 7‑5899, for details.
