HOME AGAIN.
As we promised you in the March number, we will make a brief explanation as to our present residence. We are again back home in the Lone Star State. The reason that we could make no further explanation in the March number was due to the fact that we made copy for the March, April, May and June numbers before leaving Kentucky, and we did not wish to make a change in those copies.
As all of you know, Texas is our home, and while we have been in Kentucky for the major part of the past three years we have retained our residence here and still own our home here. So we just came back home, it being necesssary to return here in order to be near, so as to look after our interest at this place.
As a result of the move back to Texas there has been another delay in the magazines coming to you, but we hope to have them up to date soon and in rapid fire order. It is our plans now to have the next eight copies, including those that have just gone out, to you by the last week in June.
We therefore will appreciate subscription renewals from all of you whose subscriptions has lapsed, and will continue to appreciate all the birth, wedding announcements of all clan members.

In your last several numbers of the magazine we have been giving you Virginia records of Shackelfords and/or Shacklefords. And we shall continue to do so now, although in the very near future we will give you some military records that we have gathered hither and yon, Revolutionary, War of 1812, and War between The States.
But next we would like to give you records of Amherst County, Virginia, and Madison County, Ky. We mention both places because this family lived in many places, but the above mentioned two places appears to be where most of the records are to be found concerning them.
WILL OF GEORGE SHACKELFORD
In the name of God, Amen:
I, George Shackelford, of the County of Amherst and State of Virginia, being in feeble health but of sound mind and memory, do hereby make and ordain this my last Will and Testament as follows:
First: I wish all my just debts and funeral expenses to be paid as soon after my death as possible, and direct and empower my executors hereafter named, to sell and dispose of as much of my perishable property and slaves for that purpose as may be necessary, having due regard to the wishes of my wife as to such slaves and perishable property as she would rather part with for that, and after the payment of my debts and as before named.
Second: I give and bequeath to my wife Frances B. Shackelford, all of my estate both personal and real, for and during her natural life, so that she may enjoy the use and profits thereof until her death; and then I give and bequeath all my estate both real and personal, together with all the increase and profits thereof as the case may be, to my children, as follows: Edmund L., John H., William H., James M., George, Jr., Taliaferro O., and

Juliet E. Hockaday, wife of Edmund J. Hockaday, all of the State of Kentucky, to be equally divided between them, as hereafter directed.
Now I do hereby constitute and appoint my wife Frances B. Shackelford, executrix, and my sons Edmund L. Shackelford, John H. Shackelford and William H. Shackelford, executors to this my Last Will and Testament, any one or two of which may administer upon my estate as aforesaid, but it is my express will and desire that the court should not require any of them to give bond or security for the performance of their duty, having full confidence that my wife and sons will do their duty from moral obligations without being legally bound, and if my wife should at any time during her natural life wish to give up to my children any portion of my estate, it is my desire that my three oldest sons named as executors should take charge of it and divide it among such of my children as they may consider most in need, and the same to be accounted for by them on a final division, and at the death of my wife my will and desire is that my three oldest sons named as executors, or any two or them, or the survivor of them as the case may be, shall take possession of all my estate, real and personal, and divide it equally amongst all my children as before named, except that my daughter Juliet is to have a negro girl from ten to twenty years old, more than any of them, and in order to effect this division my three oldest sons, or any one or more as before provided, shall have ample power to sell or convey all or any portion of the estate, real and personal, which may come into their hands after the death of my wife as aforesaid; and if any of my children shall die before I do, their heirs at law are to represent the deceased parent--that is, their children.
And lastly I do hereby revoke, cancel and make null and void all former wills made by me.
In testament whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this the twenty third day of November, eighteen hundred and forty three. (November, 23, 1843).

Later we shall give you a copy of the Will of Frances B. Shackelford. But since there is so much confusion concerning the ancestry of this family we shall mention that first.
Our records show that the above named George Shackelford was a son of Col. Lyne Shackelford, but there appears to be some confusion regarding his mother. Our records show that Col. Lyne Shackelford was twice married, that his first wife was Elizabeth Taliaferro, daughter of William Taliaferro; and that his second wife was Sarah Taliaferro, daughter of Phillip Taliaferro. And our records also show that Col. Lyne Shackelford and his first wife Elizabeth, had six children, as follows: Lyne, Jr., Zachariah, William, John, Rose Taliaferro, and Benjamin.
Col. Lyne Shckelford and his second wife, Sarah, according to our records, had four children, as follows: Richard Taliaferro, Elizabeth (Betsy), Baytop (sic) and George. The full name of the latter being George Lyne.
Some records show that George Lyne was a son of the first wife Elizabeth.
And then to add to the confusion, there is a deed record in Woodford County showing that one Lyne Shackelford, whose wife was Martha, sold land in the Northwest Territory in 1799. But this is the only record we have ever found where Lyne Shackelford had a wife named Martha. And this had to be Col. Lyne, because Lyne, Jr. was married but one time and his wife was not named Martha. George Lyne's wife was Martha, but they were not married in 1799. The above deed record in Woodford County, Ky.
Therefore we would appreciate any information that wil help us to get this record correct and complete.
Our records show that George Lyne Shackelford was born in Henrico County, Virginia, but we prefer to believe that he was born in King and Queen County,

since we have no record of any nature showing that Col. Lyne ever lived in Henrico County. But George Lyne Shackelford was born July 4, 1780, in Virginia, and although he lived for many years in Madison Co., Ky., he died in Amherst County, Va., June 15, 1847. He was twice married, his first wife being Martha Hockaday, daughter of Edmund Hockaday and his wife Martha Otey whom he married in Clark County, Ky. March 10, 1801. She was born in New Kent Co., Va., July 25, 1776, and died in Madison County, Ky. December 25, 1819, to which union were born ten children, as follows:

As will be seen by the will of George Lyne Shckelford, the name of his second wife was Frances B., but we do not know her maiden name, nor do we have the date of her marriage, but they evidently married in Kentucky and then returned to Virginia. So far as our records show, they had no children.
Edmund Lyne Shckelford, eldest son of George and Martha Hockaday-Shackelford, was born in Madison County, Ky., March 26, 1802, and died April 21, 1876. He was married to Margaret Miller, daughter of Major Daniel Miller and Susanna Woods, February 9, 1826. She was born December 29, 1805 in Orange County, Va., and died in Madison County, Ky., January 15, 1873. They had eight children, as follows:

Sidney Venable Rowland, son of David Irvin Rowland and Mahala Tyre, was born May 5, 1831, probably in what is now Boyle County, Ky. He died April 1, 1904, in Boyle County, Ky. He was married to Susan Frances Shackelford, daughter of Edmund Lyne and Margaret Miller-Shackelford, February 22, 1853. She was born in Madison County, Ky., July 24, 1834, and died in Boyle County, Ky., Sept. 12, 1898. They had six children, as follows:

William Shackelford Rowland, son of Sidney Venable Rowland and Susan Frances Shackelford, was born in Boyle County, Ky., March 7, 1855, and died September 5, 1929. He married for his first wife Mary C. Bowman, parentage not shown, October 26, 1876. She was born December 7, 1855, and died November 12, 1898. They had but two children, according to our records, as follows:

William Shackelford Rowland then married for his second wife--Pattie McDowell. She was born January 12, 1865, date of death not shown. They married Sept. 14, 1904, and had no children.
David Pittman Rowland, son of Sidney Venable Rowland and Susan Frances Shackelford, was born in Boyle County, Ky., June 27, 1857, and died Sept. 5, 1817. He was married to Elizabeth (Lizzie) Lee, daughter of George F. Lee and Susan Jane Miller, April 12, 1882. She was born October 6, 1857

and died April 4, 1906. They had the following children, four of them:

Edmund Lyne Rowland, son of Sidney Venable Rowland and Susan Frances Shackelford, was born in Boyle County, Ky., January 17, 1860, and the date of death not shown. He was married to Miss Pattie Bryant, parentage not show, May 30, 1882. Her dates not shown, and they had no children.
Stephen Bates White, date and place of birth not shown, married Margaret Shackelford Rowland, daughter of Sidney Venable Rowland and Susan Frances Shackelford, February 18, 1885. She was born January 4, 1864, and died September 2, 1905. They had four children, as follows: Susan, Lucy, Sidney and Mary Olivia. All daughters.
Robert Hann, date and place of birth not shown, married Margaret Miller Shackelford, daughter of Edmund Lyne Shackelford and Margaret Miller, February 18, 1868. She was born May 16, 1844, in Madison County, Ky., and died June 19, 1874. Our records show they had but two children, as follows: Edmund Lyne and Alexander Robertson Hann.
John Hockaday Shackelford, son of George Lyne and Martha Hockaday-Shackelford, was born in Madison County, Ky., August 29, 1803, and died March 22, 1875. He married for his first wife Malinda Miller, daughter of Major Daniel Miller and Susanna Woods, December 16, 1830. She was born January 15, 1808, and died August 16, 1835. Our records show thay had but two children, as follows:

John Hockaday Shackelford then married for his second wife Mrs. Seguis Monda, January 13, 1842. She was born July 17, 1813, and died May 30, 1847.

They had but one child--an infant son that was born and died July 23, 1844.
George Daniel Shackelford, son of John Hockaday and Malinda Miller-Shackelford, was born in Madison County, Ky., September 22, 1831; and died June 28, 1874. He married for his first wife Miss Ruth Warfield, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Nicholas and Susan Warfield, April 12, 1853. She was born February 21, 1834, and died February 25, 1855, in Illinois. They had no children.
George Daniel Shackelford then married for his second wife-Elizabeth (Lizzie) Sweeney, parentage not shown, January 6, 1857. She was born January 3, 1835, and died in Illinois January 29, 1924. They had six children, as follows:

L. Rutherford Blanton, parentage not shown, was born Feb. 21, 1862, in Illinois. He died March 29, 1909. He was married to Laura R. Shackelford, daughter of George Daniel Shackelford and Elizabeth Sweeney, April 26, 1888. She was born July 16, 1864, and was still living when this record was compiled. Thye had three children, as follows:

Captain James Thomas Shackelford, son of John Hockaday and Malinda Miller-Shackelford, was born in Madison County, Ky., June 3, 1834. He died in Kentucky, November 11, 1904. He married for his first wife--Mary Catherine Bates, daughter of Daniel Bates and Mary Baker. She was born Feb. 13, 1840,. and died March 17, 1865. They had two sons, ie:
