I just started research on the maternal side of my family. These people were Shacklefords, Howards, and Whittakers(2-TT's). Already I've picked up Carnal  (Carneal) I beleive my line is connected to Mary A. Shackleford. I also have marriage  certificate of Mary E. Shackleford marrying R. (Rueben) Greenstreet.

(note received back from John states Caroline Co., VA, marriage date March 1886)

This R. Greenstreet is very possibly my great grandfather. My mother says Rueben married Sarah Elizabeth Shackleford. Here in is where the problem arises. It looks like a possible mistake on the marriage record. Both mother and daughter were recorded as Mary. That doesn't follow the name rules.

Usually daughters were named after grandma.
