This is a Descendant Chart for John Shackelford. This is as far as I have been able to get on it. I have read every E-Mail and everything on the Shackelford site, but I have not found anything to relate to my John. Can anyone help me? Thanks, Sue

Andrew Jackson Shackelford died February 7, 1900, age 66 years. He leaves a wife and six childredn. Mr. Shackelford, although very peculiar and eccentric, was a man of great influence in his neighborhood. We shall miss him in the church and Sunday School, where his enthusiastic work was made all the more forcibly by his eccentricity. He was unusually warm hearted and sympathetic and deeply religious. His funeral was preached at the Haypress School House, and burial in the Walkerville Cemetery.

Andrew Jackson Shackelford of Walkerville died on Thursday, February 8, 1900, and was buried at the Walkerville Cemetery Friday, February 9, 1900, at the age of 66. His first wife, who preceded him in death, was the former Ellen Newman. One of their two children, Freddie, died in infancy. The other, Benjamin Franklin survives. Shackelford later married the former Mattie Early. Eight children were born to this union, five of whom survive, William Ashury, Mary Medorah, Myrtle Ethel, Annie Caroline and Loren Eugene. Also living are one brother and two sisters.

After the death of Andrew Jackson Shackelford, Marth Early, age 40, married William E. Newmon., age 33 of Bridgewater, son of John and Emaline Newmon, in 1902. They had two children, Earl Leonard who married Mae Coonrod in 1925 and died in 1971 and Mable who died in infancy. Martha, nearly 52 years of age died August 20, 1912 at her home in Bluffdale. William Newmon
died in his chair February 13, 1920.

These facts lead us to believe that Ellen was born in 1848 to the parents of Edward and Mary F. Newman. Edward was born in 1812 in Maryland and died between the years of 1857 and 1859 since the last child born to them was three in the 1860 census records. Mary was born in 1822 in Kentucy and at some point after Edward's death married James Cox since the marriage license #7268 recorded in book F, page 12 in Greene County, Illinois of Andrew Jackson Shackelford and Mrs. Nellie Dixon show her to be the daughter of Mrs. James Cox., Walkerville, Illinois.
To prove Mrs. Nellie Dixon is in fact Ellen Newman the following information from marriage, death and census records of Joseph Dixon was used:

FACTS: Ellen Newman became the wife of George Dixon sometime before 1868 when their son Joseph was born and George died before 1870 since Ellen and Joseph are listed alone in the 1870 census records. Ellen married A.J. Shackelford in 1871; children - Freddy and Benjamin Franklin; died April 28, 1877 of comsumption near Haypress, Illinois.
