I am interested in the Shackelford's of Caswell Co,NC. My wife is a descendant of Mildred Shackelford who md William Cox in 1821 Caswell Co,NC as your Shackelford page shows. The marriage bondsman was William Holcombe. It really looks the same signature as the William Holcombe who signed the marriage bond of Armistead Shackelford & Nancy Holcombe years earlier.
This leads me to beleive( purely opinion- no proof) that Armistead Shackelford is the father of Mildred Shackelford or at least related.
William Cox lived in Caswell Co,NC until about 1840 Not sure if he is in the 1840 Census in Caswell Co,NC or not. I haven't gotten copies of any of the Census for Caswell Co,NC at all! William & Mildred Shackelford Cox are next listed in the 1850 Anderson Co,KY census. With all their known children except my wife's Mary Cox who had married Allen Taylor in 1844 Anderson Co,KY and had moved across the river to Clark Co,IN by 1850. One other son of William Cox, James Cox married in 1854 Anderson Co,KY to Mary Morton also from NC. I have not been able to locate William & Mildred or any other of their children after 1850.
I have checked all the Cox households in KY and IN in 1860 big job!
I beleive they either moved west ( trail of Tears?) or moved back to NC. No evidence either way! I'd love to learn more about the Shackelfords of Caswell Co,NC and Pittsvania Co,VA. I am willing to share any info I have.
Can either of you help in locating other researchers that are interested in Shackelfords of the above two areas. My wife's direct line not any collaterals entered can be found at my wife's web page. Any help would surely be appreciated!

Notes: There is a HOLCOMBE Genealogy book on the HOLCOMBE family and there is an entry on the HOLCOMBE/SHACKELFORD marriage. However, I haven't found any information concerning Armistead's Shackelford children.
I have no definite prove of the connection of Mildred SHACKELFORD to Armistead & Nancy HOLCOMBE SHACKELFORD, just a wild guess on my part due to the Name WILLIAM HOLCOMBE being mentioned on both Armistead's marriage bond and Mildred's Marriage bond. And the marriage date fits! I really don't know even if it's the same William HOLCOMBE.
