SPWIS STATION INFORMATION

SPWIS is a privately owned and operated FCC Part 15 low-power radio station which rebroadcasts NOAA Weather Radio to the general public on the AM broadcast band as a non-commercial service to the community. SPWIS retransmits the signal of NOAA Station KWO35 which originates on a frequency of 162.550 MHz from the Upton, New York Bureau of the National Weather Service. The signal is rebroadcast in its entirety, with no changes or additions, including the Severe Weather Alert tones and messages. SPWIS transmits 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on a frequency of 1630 kHz in the expanded AM band, using an FCC Certified AM transmitter. SPWIS is owned and operated by FCC licensed Amateur (Ham) Radio Station W2MXW. Reception reports or other correspondence should be sent to the SPWIS email address. Station W2MXW will QSL all verifiable reception reports.


Below is a coverage map depicting the reliable (strong signal) contour of SPWIS. The station can be received well outside of this area, however, the signal may be noisy or intermittent beyond the reliable coverage area, depending on the sensitivity of the listener's receiver. A car radio is recommended for best reception over the largest area, as SPWIS is primarily intended to be a service to motorists.
