THE WORTMAN FAMILY IN NORTH AMERICA

New Brunswick, Canada is just about the most beautiful place in the whole country! And here is where the first Wortman pioneers came to settle. George and Mariah arrived on June 3, 1766. Ten years before the War of Secession in the Thirtenn Colonies (1776).

I publish The Wortman Quarterly. Dedicated to providing genealogical information on North America's first settlers, this genealogy newsletter has been published since 1995. My ancestors, George and Mariah Wortman, had a difficult time of it that first winter.

But they survived, and each of their known sons had 10 or more children, mostly males. So the family name got a good start with the hearty Wortman genes!

WAYNE & FLORENCE WORTMAN

Here is Florence Wortman, widow of Donald Harris Wortman, and her son. This photo was taken on Thanksgiving Day, 1997, in Moncton, NB. They look very happy in this picture. Wayne often said this was the happiest time in his life.

The photo was taken by his beloved sister, Marilyn, who died less than 10 months later of raging cancer.
