Lieutenant Governor Awards
 
Halifax - Youth Support celebrated it's year's accomplishment with an awards ceremony in Halifax. Two bus loads of students took in the event at King's College. Lt.- Gov. James Kinley and his wife Grace Kinley, Youth Support Patron, joined the festivities.

The program involves junior and senior high students from North Queens to Chester. Award recipients have participated one to four years. they were praised for their hard work, 'extraordinary progress' and positive decision-making.

for the first time, a mass award was given. Nineteen students make up the Hebbville Academy Drug Awareness Theatre Group. They tackled drug awareness by writing and producing a play, An Evening's Excitement. They met weekly for two months then daily for the last month before performing at the Academy and Bridgewater High School.

As well, Trudy Johnson, chairman of the board, Youth Support Foundation, was presented an award.

"She was there at the beginning and continues to be there," said founder George Munroe. "She's done so much for youth it boggles the mind."
Terry Goodwin, Farm Project co-ordinator gave out Bronze Trowel Awards to seven people who "shine....have great potential....and loyalty." The organic gardening venture includes clearing land, sowing seed, setting out transplants, building a greenhouse and processing the harvest.

Youth Support meets each week. In 1984, membership numbered four, today it's over 200. The program helps participants deal with a variety of issues including alcohol and drug abuse as well as coping with an alcoholic parent. recovery, an ongoing process, includes the physical, mental, social, emotional and spiritual sides of life.

Youth Support is looking forward to their Second Annual Barbeque at M&M Meats in Bridgewater, 10AM - 4PM, July 11th. Profits are slated for the Youth Support Foundation's Farm Project.
