What: Traveled across America on a scietific expedition under finances of President Jefferson
Where: Lewis and Clark traveled from their starting point in St Louis, To their winter quarters at Fort Clatsop in Oregon Territory
When: The expedition started in May of 1804 and ended in September of 1806
Why: In hopes to find a Northwest Passage (a water connection between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans), to conduct Scientific research on plant and animals, and to make peaceful contact with Native Americans
