Welcome to...
Chris and Midori's Homepage!
Hello there! We're Chris Church and Midori Hirtzel-Church, and this is our
very own home page! Even though we both have our own sites, we wanted this one
to be "ours" as opposed to "his" or "hers." If you want to check out our other
sites, you can follow the links to my site, Black
Unicorn Wood, or to Chris's home page, Herne's
Wood.
About Us
We're both from Cheektowaga, a suburb of Buffalo, New York, and were married
on June 20, 1998. Chris is a civil engineer with the New York State Department
of Transportation, and I'm a substitute teacher, working mainly in the parochial
grammar schools in the Diocese of Buffalo. We own our own home in Cheektowaga,
and share the house with our two cats, a male
domestic shorthair named Ari (short for
Arislan), and a female domestic longhair named Kerrigan.
Roleplaying with Chris and Midori
Both of us are avid role-players and gamemasters (though I'm probably more
into gamemastering [or gamemistressing, as I like to call it] than Chris
:-). For the uninitiated, role-playing is a form of interactive entertainment
(sort of like improvisational theatre) where you create and then take on the
role of a fictional character, and have adventures in a world created by the
Gamemaster (or Gamemistress, in my case), a sort of director or referee. Unlike
television or other passive forms of entertainment, in role-playing you
get to decide what happens to your character. It's sort of like playing make-believe,
only for grown-ups. Right now, we're gearing up to GM a Champions game
based on the anime series Bubblegum
Crisis.

Games We've Run
(either individually or together)
- D.C. After Dark: This was the very first game I was ever a StoryTeller
(as White Wolf Game Studios calls the Gamemaster) for: a Chronicle for Vampire:
The Masquerade set in Washington D.C. in the year 1997. I started running
this game in the summer of 1994. It ran every Saturday for more than a year,
and was the catalyst for my making a number of new friends...including Chris!
So I guess you might say that gaming brought us together!
- Windriders Unchained: The sequel to D.C. After Dark,
this was a Chronicle for Werewolf: The Apocalypse. Set in the early
twenty-first century at the Sept of the Windriders in Rock Creek Park in Georgetown,
Washington D.C., it followed the adventures of a pack of young Garou (Werewolves)
and their associates, all students at Georgetown University, as they carried
out Gaia's will and attempted to make a name for themselves. This Chronicle
began play in the summer of 1995, and ended in the winter of 1996.
- Noxopolis Nites: The first
game we co-ran! This was a campaign for NightLife, the role-playing
game of Urban Horror, by Stellar Games. Set in the fictional city of Noxopolis,
it chronicled the adventures of a group of Kin (what humanity calls "monsters"),
as the attempted to learn about the world of the night and just survive from
evening to evening!
- Santa Angela: Another
Chronicle for Vampire, this one ran for two sessions and then ended
rather abruptly due to lack of interest. Oh, well.... However, a number of
very nice web pages were created for the game, and I've placed them here on
this site for your enjoyment.
- Perchance to Dream:
A Chronicle for Changeling: The Dreaming, this followed the adventures
of a group of changelings (faeries in mortal flesh) as they discovered the
wonders and mysteries of The Dreaming. Set in the changeling duchy of SilverWood,
Virginia, this Chronicle ran from summer 1996 to spring 1997. I've since run
two sequels to this game...
- Perchance
to Dream, Part 2: A Whole New World: This Chronicle took place
some twenty years after Perchance to Dream, and followed the
adventures of the changelings of the Free Holding of Heartwood. It ran from
summer 1998 until the late spring of 1999, and is sort of unique in that I
actually got to run the ending I had originally planned for it.
- Perchance
to Dream, Part 3: Lords of the Morning: Picking things up a year or
so after the events of A Whole New World, this game followed the adventures
of the members of the court of Prince Llew ap Fiona, ruler of the barony of
The Silver Lion, and heir to the duchy of SilverWater. It ran from summer
of 1999 until about mid-winter of 2001, embracing a large and varied cast
of Player Characters in the process.
- Winds of
Change: This was the second Werewolf game I ran, and it also
took place at Georgetown (though some twenty-odd years after Windriders
Unchained). This game followed the adventures of a pack of young Garou
dedicated to mending the relationships between the werewolves and the other
shapechangers, and ran during the summer and autumn of 2001.
- Strange Bedfellows: Our Chronicle for CJ
Carella's WitchCraft. Set in the fictional city of San Tobal,
California, it followed the adventures of a group of Gifted as they fought
everything from demons to minions of the Mad Gods. Though the game didn't
last that long, San Tobal is now the location for the WitchCraft adventures
we GM every year at UB
Con, a gaming convention held every year at the State University of New
York at Buffalo.
