This concept of listing the "most valuable" nurseries for ornamental plant info goes back more than 15 years we the New Ornamentals Society (our parent organization) created the NOS150 with links to most helpful mailorder cultivar listings in North America. Today we have expanded the total allowed and have worked to include more international firms. We have also included major plant introduction and breeder's rights agencies.

Our criteria for selection are:

past, long-term value in researching cultivar.org publications and ebooks
amount of recent, exclusive, and original cultivar data
tendency to introduce their own new and rare plant material, including breeding programs
quality of photography
international reputation as industry leaders in cultivar introduction and distribution
number of exclusive cultivar offerings
earliness and quickness of data updates
