| Benelek is the son of Lexel and Jondex both of whom worked as diplomats on Romulus. He lived a troubled childhood as he was always getting in trouble at school, either blowing stuff up, burning stuff down, or just bullying the other kids. His parents when he is 13 having tried everything else organise for him to be taken in and trained by the Tal Shiar. This has a positive effect on the young man and by age 16 he is serving in the Tal Shiar as a cadet gathering intellegence. This continues for 2 years. At this time his ivovlement becomes more active and he again gets to start blowing stuff up and burning stuff down, however through his previous training he has also been trained to employ more subtle methods to achieve the same end. At age 22 Benelek becomes disillusioned with the direction The Romulan Star Empire is taking and defects to the Federation. He spends a year being debreifed by Starfleet, and then applies to Starfleet Academy. He is accepted although not without some reservations. Despite his excellent record in the Tal Shiar it is requested that he complete the full 4 years at Starfleet Academy, Starfleet believing that if the fact that he defected, was an infiltration plot by the Romulans they would find out in the 4 years. Upon his graduation he is posted at Starfleet HQ, again gathering and analysing intelligence reports. After a year he is offered a post on the USS Timor, which is on a diplomatic mission to Risa. He enjoys this year long mission immensely. After his tour on the Timor he is offered a second posting on the USS Baghdad, fighting undercover behind enemy lines in the Dominion War. He jumps at this opportunity as this is were his true skills can be utilised. He performs his duty outstandingly. Unfortunatley, just before the end of the Dominion war the USS Baghdad is blown up leaving only one survivor. Benelek. He is put on leave and has only just returned to duty when Admiral Ross requires his presence at Starbase 375. There he is informed that his next posting will be to the USS Highlander.
