Born in 2348 in Lexington, Kentucky in the U.S., Mason is the son of Martin (retired Starfleet Admiral) and Sarah (retired school teacher). The family moved around alot from Martinís various assignments, but were very close knit due to Sarahís constant guiding hand in his schooling and Martinís encouraging for Mason to be involved in extra-curricular activities ranging from hiking mountains on planet Vulcan to teaching him to fly a shuttlecraft when he was ten years old on the USS Excelsior.

Mason excelled, both physically and mentally, in all skills in school and went on to challenge himself further by enlisting in the Starfleet Marine Corps at age sixteen and started serving aboard the USS Missouri with the 64th Marine Strike Group. At age nineteen, Mason was promoted to Corporal and assistant platoon leader. During the battle at Wolf 359, he was given a field promotion to Sergeant after his platoon leader was killed. He was also awarded medals for bravery and leadership. At age 21 he was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant and was made Assistant NCO (non-commissioned officer) Strike Group leader.

While on shore leave in 2370, he met Kara, a Bajoran Chief Petty Officer serving on the USS Nightshade as a shuttlecraft pilot. The two fell in love and were engaged to be married. Mason was transferred to the USS Nightshade to be with Kara, who constantly encouraged him to apply for Starfleet Academy after his promotion to First Sergeant with the 142nd Marine Strike Group. Two months before their wedding, Kara was killed in a training excercise. Mason took personal leave and decided to apply for entrance to Starfleet Academy, which was granted, to honor Karaís wishes posthumously. At 23 years of age, he entered the Academy with a major studies in Security and minor studies in Tactics, but soon after added another major, Command, to his regimen to help keep him busy and most of his thoughts off of Karaís death. He graduated 2nd in his class and was commissioned as an Ensign. He worked for a year with Fleet Admiral Jeremiah Taylor, a friend of Masonís father, as an Admiralís Aide at Starfleet Command. After a successful and insightful year with FADM Taylor, Mason accepted the position of Fleet Liaison Officer aboard the USS Highlander where his new journey begins...

Mason Clark is very work oriented while on duty, but loves to relax with Kentucky Thoroughbred or English saddle horses on a holodeck (or back on Earth), or hanging out with "the guys" while off duty. He has no problem giving or taking orders from females, but his romantic life has suffered greatly the past hew years due to his unwavering faithfulness to his deceased love, Kara. He knows that he has to move past her death, but he is having a hard time doing so. He is always willing to get into the "fray", if needed, and is totally unwilling to let a teammate or co-worker fail or give up - a trait deep-rooted in his psyche from his time as a Starfleet Marine. Semper Fidelis!

Shortly after joining the Highlander, Ensign Clark was struck down by a deadly diease, and although he survived, he was transferred to Starfleet Medical on Earth.
