Born 2352 on the USS Wyoming NCC-43730 in the Argus sector while en route to Earth. Will was born to Drexel (retired Starfleet Commander) and Cynthia (civilian astrophysicist). He never saw Earth until he was 3 yrs. old due to the fact that his family stayed on the Wyoming during Drexelís tour of duty on it. Willís father was killed in 2357 while on an away mission on Bajor--apparently a random target of an unprovoked Cardassian attack during their occupation of that planet. After his fatherís death, Will and his mother moved to San Francisco to live neat Drexelís family (Cynthia had no living relatives). This move would have a profound effect on young Willís life forever. Since his father served with Starfleet, Will was well aware of the honor, respect and selflessness that Starfleet demands and comands. From an early age, he made a conscious effort to train himself to be able to live by those high standards passed down to him by his father. When competing in sporting events, he practiced almost more than he could endure to get his techniques just right. When he was to that point, he would practice more, just to make sure. In his schooling, Will was careful not to overload on his subjects, but take a few extras and still get straight ìAísî in every one. By age 11, Will consistantly begged and pleaded with his mother to send him to a military school. She always refused to send him. But on Willís 12th birthday, his uncle, Captain Samuel Cross, an instructor at Starfleet Academy, notified him that he would be accepted at a local military school. His mother finally approved the idea and Will stayed at this school until he started his career with the Starfleet Marines at age 17. Will hoped that joining the Starfleet Marines would help him have an edge when he tried to get accepted to Starfleet Academy. Upon joining the Marines, he was assigned to the 223rd Marine Strike Group aboard the USS Venture NCC-71854. While on the USS Venture, he was awarded the Bronze Cluster for saving the life of a Chief Petty Officer by performing basic, one-man C.P.R. for 15 minutes (the ship was running level-1 diagnostics and many of the functions of the ship were down, including the turbolifts). Finally the Medical Staff arrived by using the Jeffries Tubes to move around the ship. In 2371, Will applied for the Starfleet Academy and wsa very quickly accepted. His major fields of study were Security and Tactical. While in the academy, he took the emergency medical course offered to all cadets. While not wanting to be a doctor or a nurse, he really liked the idea of being a qualified Medic on board a starship. After his commissioning as an Ensign, Will attended the Starfleet Medical School to take a year of Advanced Emergency Medical Care, making him a licensed Medic. Upon his graduation in the top 1 percent of his class in 2376, he immediately applied for duty on the USS Highlander as a Medic--giving up the opportunity to serve on much big ship. He misses the excitement of the Marines, and hopes to be included occasionally on some away missions, but isnít holding his breath. Very highly trained in the security and tactical aspects of Starfleet, especially the Defiant class ships. He hopes to have memorable experiences in Starfleet and maybe some day try to raise a family of his own. Shortly after joining the Highlander, Ensign Cross was struck down by a deadly diease, and although he survived, he was transferred to Starfleet Medical on Earth. |
