ENGINEERING
| The Defiant class is, officially, an experimental escort-class starship. Unofficially, it is a warship. It has no families onboard, no science labs, no holodecks, or any other comforts of home. It is a heavily armoured, stripped-down starship and was created as a first strike vehicle for use in war, incorporating the latest in Starfleet weaponry and defensive technology. The Defiant class was originally designed and built to defend the Federation against the Borg, but was put into dry-dock after that threat subdued and became less urgent. However, with the new threat from the Dominion of the Gamma Quadrant, Starfleet has once again commenced construction of this formidable weapon, in an effort to once again defend the Alpha Quadrant. |
| The Defiant Class vessels are built at the Antares Fleet Yards in the Sol system. The starship has been upgraded , incorporating a Mara II Quadcore drive and a standard mass drive fusion impulse engine comparable to a Nebula Class. The engines have a tendency to outrun the inertial dampers during extreme manoeuvres, making the Defiant class, the only ships in the Federation that can "pull-G's." It has a turn rate of approximately 180 degrees per second |

The warp core is located in the aft engineering section. and spans all four decks, vertically. The matter antimatter reaction assembly ( M/ARA ) is embedded within Deck 3. Plasma transfer conduits exit the core on Deck 3 and extend laterally to the nacelles and the warp plasma injectors. The Nacelles incorporate an experimental in-line impulse system, which accepts matter intake and heating within the nacelles and exhaust the heated gases through a space time driver assembly in the nacelle aft cap |
