Apple Sauce Cake

From an old newspaper clipping.

1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
3 cups apple sauce, (freshly made, hot, juicy and slightly sweetened)
2 cups seedless raisins, (or one cup raisins and one cup chopped dates)
8 candy orange slices, (cut into small pieces)
2 cups sifted flour
2 teaspoons soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon cloves
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon vanilla

Dust raisins, dates and orange slices with a little of your sifted flour. Mix shortening, sugar, apple sauce, raisins and orange slices. To this mixture add the remaining ingredients. Bake one hour in a well greased tube pan, 350 degree oven. It's a very good idea after greasing cake pan to dust with flour. Cool and ice.
