One Shot to Murder by Laura Meyer

Dr. Mark Sloan head of internal medicine at Community General, went 
into the pathology lab and saw resident pathologist Amanda Bentley 
working on an autopsy.  Mark noticed that Amanda was tired, she had 
been at the hospital since six o'clock that morning.

Mark was just finishing rounds and wanted to talk to Amanda about some
autopsies that raised some questions for the doctor.  Amanda was looking
over an autopsy, "Mark did we have a five year old girl admitted two
weeks ago?" Amanda wondered.  "Yes we did why do you ask?"  Mark wanted
to know.  "I forgot to make sure the mom saw the report."  Amanda told
him.

Mark then asked Amanda for the phone number because he had no record of
it in his files.   Mark noticed that Amanda was looking tired and gave
her an exam to make sure nothing was really wrong with her.  Now we find
Mark and Amanda in the exam room and Mark has just started the
examination.  He found that Amanda was under a lot of stress and seemed
sleepy.

"Have you been sleeping well?"   Mark inquired.  "No I haven't been
sleeping well."  Amanda told the doctor. Mark was very worried about her
and wrote something on her chart and he gave her some medicine that
might help her.  He also told her to rest more.  Amanda then left the
room to get her things and go home.

Mark and Amanda walked to their cars and Mark said "remember we have
that meeting tomorrow at eight in the morning."  The night air had a
chill to it that always made Amanda feel funny like something was going
to happen.  What that might be she was about to find out.

Amanda then went through her mail and found a note that said an ex
boyfriend was released from prison two days ago, Amanda was scared as
she wondered what she would do if she ran into him again.  Ten years ago
Amanda  & Bill were dating and was abusive to Amanda.

Amanda had no idea what to do next and continued looking over her notes
for the meeting plus she had paper work to do for the next day.  Amanda
later found a note in her mailbox that read: "I will come to see you.""Amanda was not sure what the last line of her note meant.

Amanda later put the note and thought about what the last line of the
note said out of her mind and went back to taking notes for the meeting
with Mark in a few hours.  What Amanda didn't know was that someone was
on the way to see her late that night and continued to take notes for
her meeting tomorrow.  Back at Community General Hospital everything was
closed for the day.

Before Mark left the hospital he wrote a note for Amanda to help with
his teaching tomorrow and showing the students how an autopsy is done.
Amanda was doing paper work at 215 a.m. and felt her eyes getting very
heavy.  Suddenly someone broke a window.  Amanda then tried to hide from
this person but wasn't able to hide for very long because he found her
hidden behind a door.

Amanda had forgotten what her ex boyfriend had done to her about ten
years ago.  The strange man came at Amanda with a loaded gun. Amanda now
stood cold with fear racing up and down her body.  Now she wondered what
to do.  As this man held a gun he also had a tight grip on Amanda.  She
had no idea who that person really was except for a familiar voice
though she couldn't quite place who the voice belonged to.

He told Amanda she would be killed if she told anyone what this person
was doing to her. The meeting was going to start in two hours.   Amanda
had only one question on her mind which was how would she leave with
this man in the pathology lab?  As Amanda thought of what to do the bad
guy took an even tighter grip on her.

"What are you doing here?"  Amanda wanted to know.  The bad guy didn't
say anything at all to answer her questions next he then took a note
from his pocket and gave it to Amanda.  The note said there was more to
come.  Before the intruder left he hit Amanda so hard that she fell to
the ground and was dizzy, tired.  "Stay awake."   He said.  If Amanda
didn't stay awake she would end up dead.

Amanda left for the hospital at 6 a.m. and needed to help with the last
minute details of the autopsies that Mark had questions about.  Amanda
had some idea that she was followed but there was no way to find out who
might be following Amanda.

The mysterious man that was following Amanda knew what he wanted and how
he would kill Amanda.  This bad guy was going to take pictures of Amanda
and make everybody think that she is dead.  As Amanda continued her
drive to the hospital she felt as though she were being followed now we
find Amanda working on last minute autopsy reports for the meeting set
to began in an hour.

Amanda felt dizzy and decided to take a nap for a little while.  As she
tried to take a nap she kept hearing the words "stay awake" go through
her head.  Mark was given the notes Amanda has taken on the autopsy
reports and put them in the files.  Next Mark had rounds to do and as he
did them he was getting worried about Amanda.

A patient that was shot badly was examined by Amanda and was doing very
well.  In a little while Amanda would teach mark's class about how an
autopsy was performed.   First Amanda needed some things from her lab
having no idea that the intruder who followed her was now in the
pathology lab about to kill her.

 Amanda felt as though someone followed her.  Bill was right in her
pathology lab and was becoming very dangerous, how dangerous Amanda was
beginning to find out.  Bill now was putting his deadly plan into
action.  He knew how many steps it took her to get inside the hospital,
her car and every place Amanda went.  Amanda was still in the lab about
to leave when someone pushed her down to the ground and kicked her
around ten times, 30 minutes later Amanda felt sick.

Mark was starting to worry about her; class had begun 10 minutes ago.
As Amanda continued walking to the class she felt a bad dizzy spell hit
her, she didn't want Mark to find out because he would ask questions and
Amanda wasn't ready to answer them at the moment.

Mark had everybody take notes.  Amanda was coming through the door,
"everybody this is Amanda who will show you how an autopsy is done.""Mark said.  Amanda now had a picture of an autopsy on the projector to
show what an autopsy really looked like.  Amanda than went on to explain
that all an autopsy really was is just to find out what a person died
of.

The dizzy spell Amanda had earlier was coming back.  As she continued to
teach the class her legs fell out from under her.  Mark quickly
dismissed the class and caught Amanda before she fell. Amanda was now
helped to her feet and was still dizzy; he then took Amanda to his
office and wanted to examine her.

Mark began his examination of Amanda and saw that something was wrong.
Mark noticed that Amanda seemed different and very withdrawn.  Next Mark
asked Amanda some questions; "can you tell me why you are so tired?"""Can you tell me more about the events that led up to your feeling
tired?"""Amanda couldn't tell Mark what was really going on because she needed
more time to figure out what to do.  As Amanda left mark's office he
told her to take it easy now Mark thought that emotionally there might
be something wrong with Amanda but he didn't know how to go about
finding that information at the moment.

Mark then decided to let Amanda rest awhile, as he did he went to get
her chart when Mark was back in the room he noticed Amanda kept going to
sleep and waking up. As Mark looked at Amanda's chart he also noticed
that she kept waking up but not going to sleep.  "Why wasn't Amanda
going to sleep she knows that it is safe here."""Mark was bothered by the changes he had seen in Amanda and that she
didn't seem like herself these days and that bothered Mark a lot.
Before Amanda left for the day Mark stopped her in the hall and said,
"call me if you need anything."  Mark said.

 Bill (Amanda's stalker) was waiting at her house and in minutes Bill's
plan had been set, now all he had to do was wait for Amanda.  As she
drove home she thought of the sleep that would soon come over her.
Amanda then realized that she needed some extra paperwork that she
remembered was at home.

The paperwork that Amanda needed to do must be turned in by tomorrow
morning and she also needed to call the hospital to find out if there
was a meeting tomorrow.  Now Amanda noticed that her house was very
dark, having no idea that she was being watched.

Amanda was sitting at the dinner table to do her paperwork then felt her
body go limp.  In a flash Amanda's world went black.  Bill hit and
kicked Amanda so hard that she fell onto the floor.  Next Bill gave
Amanda a heavy sleeping pill that would make it seem that Amanda had
died that night.  Bill left a note saying that Amanda was dead.

Bill wanted to make sure that Amanda wouldn't be able to tell anyone one
what had just taken place.  Then put Amanda in the closet and walked the
door.  Mark arrived at the hospital early because he had patients to see
and usually saw Amanda at the same time.  Steve had questions to ask
Amanda but as he stepped out of police headquarters he saw a note that
was being handed to him that read: Amanda Bentley died yesterday of
natural causes.

Steve couldn't believe what he read; next he had to tell his dad what he
found.  "How would he do it?"  Steve wondered as he walked down the hall
of Community General Hospital.  Dr. Sloan was busy with a patient who
was resting.  Steve quietly knocked on the door Mark didn't hear him
come in the room.

Steve still sat quietly with the note still in hand.  Mark was about to
leave the room to get the chart for his patient, when he saw his son
Steve waiting to talk with him.  "Steve what are you doing here?"  Steve
didn't say anything for a long time.  Mark sat down beside Steve and
waited.

Finally Steve told Mark what was going on.  "I don't know how to tell
you this, I found this note on my desk as I left headquarters because I
had to ask Amanda something.  Mark took the note from Steve and silently
let the news of Amanda's sudden passing sink in.

Minutes later father and son cried together for a long time, when Mark
was finally able to talk he said, "I just saw her yesterday she seemed
tired but other than that she seemed fine.   Now the hard part was how
to tell the staff of Community General, that Amanda Bentley was dead or
was she?  Mark knew something was troubling him about the way Amanda was
acting the last few days, but he couldn't quite put his finger on it.

"Should we call the staff?"  Steve wanted to know.  "Before we call a
staff meeting we should let Jesse know what happened.  Mark went down
the hall in the direction of the pathology lab where Jesse was taking
over for Amanda.  A knock was heard at the door.  "Come in."  Said
Jesse.

"Could I talk with you for just a minute?"asked Mark.  Jesse could see
that something was wrong.  "Steve came and told me of a note that he
found that sad Amanda had died yesterday."  Mark waited for the reaction
from Jesse.   "Mark I don't think Amanda is really dead because if she
were dying we would have been told by Amanda herself."  Jesse said.

Mark thought about the possibility that Jesse might be right, but how
was Mark going to prove that Amanda wasn't really dead? Now Mark, Jesse,
and Steve were in the doctor's lounge talking about what they knew so
far.  Steve asked this question of everybody in the room "did anyone see
Amanda acting funny or different?"""Mark answered Steve's question.  "Yesterday I saw Amanda acting really
different she looked as though she wasn't getting enough rest.  Later I
examined her and found nothing wrong with her.  As the examination
continued I tried to ask her what happened and she wouldn't tell me.

Jesse had said he hadn't noticed any changes in Amanda accept that she
would look over her shoulder like someone was watching her or was coming
to hurt her.  "I am going to look for Amanda myself and I need Jesse and
dad you stay here, because if I find Amanda she will need the best care
that she can get."""Hours later Steve went to look for Amanda.  As he drove to her house
Steve wondered what and why somebody would harm a lady.  Now Steve
parked his car at the sidewalk and saw the house still dark inside" why
were the lights inside Amanda's house turned off in the daytime."  Steve
thought to himself.   Steve decided to see if he could see Amanda from
inside the house.

Steve was worried that the stalker might still harm Amanda and wanted to
see if anyone was hurting Amanda.  Next Steve went to a window and
looked inside and didn't see Amanda anywhere.  He thought that if he
couldn't see Amanda inside the house she must be hidden somewhere inside
the house, but where inside?

Suddenly shots were fired and a figure was seen in the window.   Steve
took a picture of the man inside and would come back later tonight. Back
at Community General Hospital Mark, Jesse and everyone was waiting to
find out how Amanda was doing.

Minutes later Amanda came in, Mark rushed to her side and looks her over
he couldn't believe the shape she was in.  "Take Amanda to the OR.
Jesse ordered.  Mark didn't think Amanda would make it through the
night.  In the lounge Mark was looking over Amanda's chart which showed
she was severely beaten.

Mark went to check on Amanda who was awake now Mark sat beside her and
checked her vital signs just as Amanda was asking a question "Mark where
am I?"  He continued writing on her chart and said "you are at Community
General."  Amanda now recalled what happened that night, but the
memories of that night weren't all clear to her yet.

"Amanda can you tell me what happened that night?  "Asked Mark.  Amanda
thought of what she was able to remember happening that night.  "I
remember driving home and doing paper work for you and as I was driving
home I was followed or so I thought."Amanda told him.

Mark asked her another question "you said you thought you were being
followed, where was this man?"  Mark wondered.  "When you looked at your
house how did it look?" Amanda sat up in bed a little better; "I
remember the house being very dark because that was the way it looked as
I pulled into the driveway."  Mark was taking notes so he could tell
Steve what he found.

Before Mark left the room Amanda wanted to tell him one more thing
"after I was in the house the man gave me something that may me very
tired and then I was hit on the head." Amanda said.

Mark wrote that down.  "What was it that he gave you?" Mark wanted to
know.  He was very interested in what Amanda said.  Tomorrow Mark was
going to find out what really happened to Amanda.  Now Mark had to call
Steve and fast because he feared Amanda might be killed again.  Mark ran
in to check on Amanda and found she was doing ok.

Mark and Steve checked Amanda's house and found still nothing, later
Steve found notes that were left for Amanda.  Mark read one of the notes
and was concerned about what that note said. Amanda was now asleep and
getting better, Mark was worried about what Amanda still had to go
through on an emotional level.  Mark went to check on Amanda before he
left and found she was wide awake.  "Mark what will happen to mean
now?"  She wondered.

Mark wasn't sure what she meant by the question.  "What do you mean?""Mark asked.  Amanda made herself comfortable before continuing.  "I
should tell you that bill said he was going to kill me the night I was
attacked.  Mark listened now he was really worried, "why?"   he
wondered.

Amanda had no answer to that question.   Mark said goodbye to her and
headed home for a rest.  Steve found more notes, he had a feeling they
lead up to something but what that was he didn't know.  Bill was now Mad
at the fact that Amanda wasn't dead now he must try to murder her again.

Now Mark wasn't sure what to do now.  Mark was headed home he didn't
realize how tired he really was so he decided to read a book, a few
pages into the book he fell asleep. Bill had found a way to murder
Amanda again, this time he was sure his plan would work.

 Amanda went back to work having no idea what was in store for her.
Amanda was catching up on some work when she found a note with what
appeared to be paint on the note.  She would test the note to see if
paint was on the note Mark was seeing patients and knew that it was
going to be a long day.

Steve stopped by to give. Mark more of the notes that he found inside
Amanda's house.  Mark looked at the notes and found some sort of hidden
plan within the notes he also found something else in the notes but
couldn't figure out what that something was.

Amanda felt tired and went to take a break when someone came into the
emergency room that had a bad head wound that needed treatment
immediately.  Seven hours later the surgery was finished.  Mark noticed
that she was tired and offered to take her to his home and rest.  Amanda
decided to stop by for a while.

Amanda suddenly fell asleep and forgot everything.  Mark decided to let
her sleep and take her home later.  An hour later Amanda was home but
something felt very odd.  Suddenly she stopped what she was doing and
said something but then felt a knife going inside her.  The room was
black and that was all Amanda remembered.

Amanda struggled to get to a phone and when she finally did Mark
answered, "hello who is this?"  Then a voice said Amanda.  "Amanda what
happened?"  Mark wondered.  The telephone went dead.   Amanda was lying
on the floor unconscious.

Mark called Steve to see if he could find Amanda and what happened to
her.  Mark studied the notes he had found and was able to figure out
what the hidden message within the notes.  The message was one of murder
as Mark continued to read the notes he found that there were two
different plans to murder Amanda.  Mark figured out the need for the
second plan was because the first one hadn't worked.

The one question Mark had been why was a second plan needed?  Another
question Mark had was who was to be murdered?  Mark noticed that as he
continued to read through the note a name wasn't mentioned in the note.
The next step was to go talk to Amanda and see what more she could tell.

Mark called Steve to let him know of his findings.  "Thanks for letting
me know about this dad, I would like to talk with Amanda to see if she
can help us arrest this man."  Steve hung up the telephone and went
directly to Amanda's house and wanted to find some clues as to who might
be murdered.

Mark checked on Amanda and asked her some questions "can you tell me
what happened that night?  Amanda took a few minutes to think about that
night.  "I remember driving home and doing paperwork for you that you
needed the next day.   When I started to do the paperwork I noticed the
house was quiet and I thought I was hearing things so I ignored that for
awhile.  Later I heard someone come behind me and the next thing I
remember was being hit on the head and then I was given a pill to lower
my heartbeat."  Amanda told him.

"Do you remember what the name of the pill was?"  Mark asked.  "I don't
remember the name of the pill.  Amanda said.  "I am going to your house
to see what I can find out.  Mark was now inside the house Steve was
still busy finding evidence and had so far found nothing.  Mark found a
lot of notes and read what one of them said.  "I will see you later and
we will have fun together."""Steve looked at his father and wondered if all of these notes might have
to do with Amanda and if so how?  "I am going back to the hospital to
see how Amanda is doing.  Mark stopped to ask one of the nurses how
Amanda was.  "She is not sleeping well and when I checked on her she
seemed to be saying something but I couldn't understand what she said.""""Thank you very much."  Mark told the nurse.  Mark entered Amanda's room
and found her sleeping fitfully and told the nurse to give Amanda
something to help her sleep.  Mark brought one of the notes and read it
again.  He was worried about what Amanda still had to go through in
terms of an emotional level.

Minute's later Amanda was awake.  "Mark what will happen to me now?
Amanda wondered as she thought of Bill.  "What do you mean?"Mark
asked.   "I should tell you that  Bill said he would kill me!"""Why?"Mark wondered with a touch of concern in his voice.

Amanda had no answer.  Mark said good night to Amanda and headed for
home and a rest.  Meanwhile Steve found more notes and had a feeling the
notes led to something.  But what?  Steve didn't know the answer to that
question.

Bill was now mad that Amanda wasn't dead now he was going to try again
and he knew just what he wanted to do.  As Mark continued going home he
wasn't sure what he could do for Amanda now.  As he walked in the door
Mark suddenly realized that he was very tired and thought that reading a
good book might help clear his thoughts.  Now a few pages into his book
Mark fell asleep


 Bill had found away to murder her again, this time he was sure it would
work.  Bill would stab Amanda at night in her house.  Meanwhile Steve
found more notes that were leading up to a plan for what Steve wasn't
sure.  Amanda was going back to work tomorrow

Bill now had a plan he would work out his plan was to stab Amanda when
it was dark so that when he did it Amanda wouldn't be able to see who
was hurting her.  Mark wanted to take Amanda home because he was worried
that she would be harmed.

Mark took Amanda home so that he would be able to protect her from any
further harm.  Before Amanda left for Mark's house she changed her mind
and stayed home.  Amanda tied to get some sleep but was unsuccessful.
Later that night memories of her earlier meeting with Bill and being
held at gunpoint started playing in her mind.

    The clock radio said it was 2:56 a.m. Amanda wondered why she heard
the phone ringing she thought the hospital might need her.  Amanda
picked up the phone "hello?"  After a few minutes Amanda heard breathing
on the other end and all was quiet.  Amanda was able to sleep a little
bit but later heard something "now I am here!"  Bill said.  "Please
leave."  Amanda said.

The eyes of the stranger were very red; Amanda was sore from previous
meetings with Bill.  Minutes later Amanda saw what might be a weapon and
wasn't sure what the weapon was, as she looked closer she saw a knife
and noticed her arm and face bleeding.

"Now I won't have to see you again, by."  He said.  Now Amanda to call
Mark.  The ringing of the phone awakened Mark "hello" he said in the
phone.  "Mark I need help I was hurt.  Mark asked Amanda what had
happened, " I was stabbed in the face and arm."  Amanda said very
worried.  "Where are you?"  Mark asked.  "I am at home.  "Amanda said as
she began to feel faint.  The telephone went dead.

Mark drove as quickly as he could he wondered whether he could get to
her before she died.  Mark arrived at Amanda's house hoping he had
gotten there in time to save her life.  When Mark saw Amanda he noticed
that she was bleeding very badly.  The ambulance was on the way.

The ambulance was taking Amanda and Mark to community General Hospital
on the way Mark was busy assessing Amanda's condition.  Now Mark and
Amanda were at the hospital going immediately to the operating room
Amanda's condition wasn't good.


The next three hours for Amanda were going to be very critical.  The
wounds to Amanda's face were very deep.  Mark wasn't sure whether they
would leave a scar.  He would wait and see how the surgery went and how
well her face healed.

 The notes Amanda had been receiving might lead to her stalker they
might lead to something more that Amanda might not know anything about.
Steve went back to Amanda's house and found a picture of the man Steve
believed might be stalking Amanda.

One question still bothered Steve "where was this man and the weapon?""He thought as he continued searching.  Steve spotted a drawer that was
left open and in the drawer was the gun.  Steve went back to the station
to see if the gun had any fingerprints and if they belonged to someone
named Bill.

Amanda was going back to work tomorrow taking care of autopsies as she
always did. Later a patient came in with a gunshot wound to his foot.
The bullet was later removed.  While the bullet was being removed Amanda
had a flashback came to her mind like a speeding train Amanda stopped as
she wondered about the gun and where it was located.  Bill put the gun
in a drawer but which drawer?

Amanda felt dizzy and couldn't stop the memories of that first night she
had seen Bill.  Mark noticed Amanda beginning to faint "Amanda sit
down."  Mark said.  Amanda could see the gun in a drawer but she
couldn't see which one.  Mark put his hand on Amanda's shoulder.
Finally the flashback stopped.

Amanda wanted to talk to Mark about the first night she saw Bill. Amanda
now felt dizzy Mark saw her getting dizzy.  "Amanda sit down."  Mark
said.  Amanda sat down and could see the image of where the weapon was.
Mark put his hands on her shoulders to comfort her.  Finally Amanda's
flashback stopped.  "Do you want to talk about it?"  Mark asked Amanda
told Mark she wanted to talk about the flashback.

"Mark I have been feeling tired lately and I can't get rid of those
memories of that night.  I remember that the gun is in my dresser
drawer."  Amanda recounted.  Mark thought about what was said.  "Why
didn't you say anything about this before?"  Mark wondered.   "I have
only just started remembering more of what happened" Amanda told him.

Steve was called to get the gun from Amanda's house.  "Dad what did
Amanda say about the gun?"  Steve wanted to know.  "All she said was
that the gun was in her dresser drawer."  Mark told his son.  Steve
really wanted this guy caught if he didn't get the guy he would never
forgive himself.

"Dad I have an idea of how to catch bill Amanda is going to have to let
Bill get her so we have evidence that she was harmed."  Steve said.
Mark wasn't sure if the idea would work but if it was the only way so be
it he thought.

As Amanda was about to leave community General she felt a dizzy spell
overcome her And Amanda Fainted.  Dr. Sloan raced to his colleague's
side and felt for a pulse.  He found it to be low.  Mark had Amanda put
on a hospital bed so he could check Amanda out.  Mark could tell Amanda
was coming around.  "Mark what happened?"  Amanda asked.  "You fainted
and I am checking to make sure that you haven't broken anything."  Mark
told her.

Steve came to take Mark home from the hospital.  "Is Amanda all right?""Steve asked.  "Amanda fainted and has been asleep ever since."  Mark
told him.  Now we find Amanda asleep at Mark's house.  Mark was making
dinner that night for Amanda, Steve, and Jesse. As they ate dinner
Amanda found another note in her purse.  She pulled the note out of her
purse and read the note.

Mark, Steve, and Jesse watched as Amanda continued to read what the note
said.  The room was quiet no one said a word.  Finally Amanda told them
what the note said; "I will see you again tonight."  The note had no
signature, which left everybody wandering who wrote the note.

Amanda felt scared about Bill trying to hurt her down again.  Steve
immediately called headquarters and had a few police cars guarding
mark's house.  Nightfall was beginning and Amanda was trying to rest and
could not.  At precisely 4 a.m. Bill was at the Sloan House ready to
finish his job.

Bill had a gun to Amanda's head "if you move I'll shoot!"  Bill
proclaimed.  Steve stood in the doorway and watched as Bill continued to
hurt Amanda.  "Put your hands up and face the wall!"  Steve ordered.
Next Steve handcuffed Bill and had him taken to police headquarters.

Mark sat by Amanda and wondered if she would be ok.  "Mark I am glad he
is gone and he won't harm me anymore, do you think there will be a
trial?"  Amanda wondered.  "I think that there will be a trial and you
probably will need to testify against Bill."  Mark put an arm around
Amanda.  Steve told Amanda that Bill was in jail and that a trial might
happen.

In two weeks a trial would take place.  Mark was checking Amanda to see
how her bruises were healing, they were almost gone.  "How are you
feeling?"  Mark wanted to know.   "Fine but very scared about testifying
against Bill Black and having to look him in the face."Amanda really
didn't want to testify at all.  Mark held her hand tightly he told her
that he would go to court with her for moral support.

Steve had been questioning Bill for two hours  "why did you want to hurt
Amanda?"  Steve said angrily.  Bill thought for a minute before he
answered the question.  "I wanted her dead because she would never go
out with me."   Steve couldn't believe anybody would stalk somebody
because the person didn't want to date them.  Bill went back to his
cell.

Steve went back to community General to tell Amanda what he found out
from Bill.  "Dad is Amanda here?"Steve needed to know.  "She is resting
right now what did Bill say?"  Mark had wandered what Bill might say.
Steve told Mark what Bill had said Mark couldn't believe anybody would
be harmed for that reason.  Mark thought about what Amanda had been
through and what she would have to go through.

The trial for Bill Black was to start in one hour Amanda was very
nervous.  Amanda told her story to the court for an hour.  Mark also
took the stand in Amanda's defense.   "Dr. Sloan when you found the
notes that the defendant left for my client what was your impression of
them?"  Linda May Amanda's lawyer asked.

  "My impression of the notes when I read them was of a very sick man." 
Mark stated.   "Did you ever talk to the defendant Bill Black?"  Linda
questions.  "No I never talked to him."  Mark said.  "Dr. Sloan could
you tell us if you see the defendant in the court room.  "He is the one
with the blue jacket."  Mark answered.

The court recessed so the jury could deliberate.   The jury came back an
hour later.  Everybody filed back in the courtroom to await the
verdict.  "Will the defendant please rise."  The judge said.  "Has the
jury reached a verdict?"The judge asked.  " We have your Honor."   The
jury foreman read the verdict: "we find the defendant guilty of stalking
and the attempted murder of Amanda Bentley.  Amanda cried as the verdict
was read.  The judge banged his gavel to bring order to the trial.

" Would be defendant like to say anything before sentence is
pronounced?"  Judge Brian wade asked.  "No your Honor."  Bill said.  "I
hereby sentence you to 25 years in prison for the attempted murder of
Dr. Amanda Bentley.

The day after the trial Amanda was in the pathology lab crying Mark
wanted to ask her a question.  He forgot the question and held Amanda as
she cried finally able to let her feelings out.  Later that evening
everybody had a picnic "thanks for being there for me Mark."  Amanda
said.  "Anytime Amanda."  Mark said as he gave Amanda a hug.  The end.
