The company was established in May 1995 and is based in Johannesburg South Africa. Our music consists of a blend of dance music such as House, Garage, R&B, Hip Hop and Kwaito - which is a combination of House and various forms of local dance music. The company was established by DJ Static. P after leaving a career of 9 years as a sound engineer in broadcasting to fulfill his lifelong dream. The Company had it's roots in the all to famous Groove Record in Orange Grove where the first productions took place with old friend and DJ partner DJ Christos. Together they forged some of the first truly local dance music, blending House with local vibes and lyrics. Phat Kat Records has released, produced and remixed material for a wide spectrum of artists. All projects gets released on CD, cassette and onto vinyl as a rule. Phat Kats has expanded its operations and is venturing into the international dance market. South African based artist have seldom been exposed abroad and with this move we aim to export the great talent this country has to offer.
