(10/8/97) ANDERSEN _ Mrs. Ethel Marie Andersen of Turner Valley, passed away at the Oilfields Hospital, Black Diamond, on October 5, 1997 at the age of 82 years. Ethel is survived by her loving husband of fifty-five years, Elmer; her sons, Don (Sandy) of Rocky Mountain House, Tom (Cheryle) of Calgary; three grandchildren, Steven, Tracy and Tara (Jason); one sister Hazelle Wilford of Salmon Arm, B.C. Ethel was predeceased by her infant daughter Leona. Ethel and Elmer farmed in the Standard area prior to moving to Turner Valley in 1949 and have resided there ever since. Ethel worked for many years at the Oilfields Hospital in Turner Valley until her retirement. (10/8/97) BODMER _ Elsie (nee Park) Bodmer of Bassano passed away peacefully in Bassano, surrounded by her family, on Saturday, October 4, 1997 at the age 83 years. Cherishing her memory are eldest son Hugh and his wife Caroline of Olds and their daughters, Jennifer and Robyn; her second eldest son Rod and his wife Geri of Gibsons, B.C. and their children, Nicole, David, Brittany and Caitlin; her daughter Shelley and her husband Doug Peters of Didsbury and their children, Thomas and Andrea; Elsie's sister Muriel Blair of Edmonton, Elsie's sister Barbara and her husband Trevor Bowen of Trail, B.C.; brother-in-law Laverne and his wife Betty-Ann of Bassano and their families. Schooled at St. Mary's Convent, a year at Normal, and additional training at the Banff School of Fine Arts, The University of Calgary and University of Saskatchewan, her career spanned four decades and hundreds of students. Elsie began teaching in 1935 and had taught in Schuler, Samis School (near Olds), Rosemary where she met and married Grant Bodmer in 1944, Grassy Lake, Banff and finally Bassano, as well as substitute teaching in surrounding areas. She retired form teaching in 1974 to enjoy her art, music, reading, hockey, her home, her grandchildren and some travelling with Grant before his passing in 1987. Elsie was a Charter Member of the International Order of the Daughter of the Nile, past Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star, Mary Keohane Chapter, Bassano and provincially had served as Grand Choir Conductress and Grand Soloist. Horace served for six years in the Royal Canadian Army during the European Campaign in World War II. He was discharged with the rank of Sergeant Major. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Don Taylor of Copper Cliff, Ontario; and a son and daughter-in-law, Horace and Jenelle of Phoenix, Arizona; thirteen grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. (10/8/97) TAYLOR-FORKHEIM _ Sandra Rae Taylor, aged 36 years, passed away peacefully on October 5, 1997 in Calgary. Her memory will be cherished by her loving husband Michael, her beautiful girls, Mikaela (six) and Lexi (four); parents, Ron and Evelyn Taylor; brothers, Mark (Wendy), Glenn (Karen); sister Lynda (Gordon Timm); cousin Tara MacEachern; and five nieces and nephews. She will also be sadly missed by Michael's family, parents, Al and Mary Forkheim; brothers, Paul, Terry (Karen), Alan (Margaret), Mark; sister Louise (James Smith); and nine nieces and nephews. Sandra fought a courageous battle with breast cancer, a disease which afflicted her with complications for almost two years. Our special thanks go to Homecare, the staff of Unit 57 at The Tom Baker Cancer Centre (especially her good friend Jo), Dr. Patterson, and to Roxanne, Colleen, Sherri, and many others for their love, friendship and support. Sandra was raised in Calgary and received her Education Degree from the University of Calgary in 1983. Her teaching career led her to the Albert Vocational College, where she helped to initiate a new program to assist women in science and technology (W.I.S.T.). Her colleagues and students were a great inspiration during her illness. He is also survived by his parents, Erling and Violet Tjostheim of Penticton, B.C.; his sister Helen Brownlee of Red Deer; four brothers, Ed and Shirley Tjostheim of Sherwood Park, Eric Tjostheim and Elaine Matthews of Nampa, Ralph and Beth Tjostheim of Rocky Mountain House, Steve Tjostheim of Wetaskiwin; and by special friends, Dick and Olive Metz and family; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Robert in 1990. Born on December 2, 1938 in Lac Magloire, Alberta. Dave was raised and educated in Nampa, AB. At the age of fifteen, he started in the trucking industry, delivering fuel for drilling rigs. For the next forty-three years Dave was associated in many aspects of the trucking, road construction and farming industries. He has seen most of Western Canada and the U.S. and can relate to his favorite song "I've been everywhere, man". Dave coached hockey and girls softball and was an avid curler. His passion was his horses. Dave will be sadly missed by his family, and many friends and associates. Jack will be sadly missed by his son Ken (Mina), and their daughter Erin; and daughters, Colleen (Allan) Macleod and Wendy (Ross) Kirkpatrick. Also surviving are sisters, LeEtta (Bill) Hay, Vivian (Bob) Worth; and brothers, Ray (Jen) and Ron (Helen); as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Laura in October 1988. She was promoted to heaven on October 7, 1997 at the Peter Lougheed Hospital in Calgary. Reta was the only daughter of pioneer homesteaders Norman and Beatrice McRae. She was predeceased by her parents and two older brother, Stan (Graydon) McRae of New Westminster, B.C., and Harvey McRae of Wetaskiwin. She is survived by her husband of fifty-seven years, Art Yerex of Strathmore; her younger brother Rod McRae of Peace River; her two children, Darcy (Fern) Yerex of Calgary and Retalee (Dennis) Ratzlaff of Surrey, B.C.; five grandchildren, Holly (Lee) Thiessen of Priddis, Darin (Robin) Yerex and Danny Yerex of Calgary, Dana Ratzlaff and Darcy Ratzlaff of Surrey; five great-grandchildren, Brett, Tanner and Paige Thiessen of Priddis, and Odessa and Talena Yerex of Calgary. (10/8/97) de WAAL _ Miss Johanna (Anne) de Waal of Calgary, passed away at the Peter Lougheed Centre on October 6, 1997 at the age of 83 years. A native Calgarian, Miss de Wall had lived here all of her life. She was a long-standing member of the C.W.L. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Miss de Waal managed the De Waal Apartment Building with her brother Ted. She is survived by a brother and two sisters-in-law, Theodore and Eva, and Audrey; nephews and nieces, John, Mari Jo, Ted, Nicole and Marilyn; a great-nephew John Marcel, and a great-niece Allison, all of Calgary. She is also survived by her cousins, Helen Groenen, Betty and Ernie Schultz, Audrey and Helmeth Cornils, Harry and Marylyn Van Ryzewieck and Con Klink; as well as numerous other relatives in Holland. She was predeceased by her parents, Mary and Theodore de Waal, and a brother John.
