(9/9/97) BLAND _ Richard S., passed away peacefully at the Foothills Hospital on September 4, 1997 at the age of 43 years. Richard was born in Hertfordshire, England and moved to Calgary with his wife Leny in 1978. For the past twenty years, he has pursued his career as an engineering consultant. Most recently serving the oil and gas industry in Alberta as a partner with Techskil Ltd. He was also involved as a volunteer in various community activities including the Boy Scouts and soccer. Richard will be remembered as a loving husband and devoted father who never lost his sense of humour. Besides his wife Leny, son Stephen and daughter Isabel, Richard will be sadly missed by his mother Joan Bland; brother John (Nuale); and grandmother Muriel Hunt, all of England; as well as numerous relatives and close friends in Europe and Canada. (9/9/97) CAMPBELL _ John (Jack) Campbell, beloved husband of Mrs. Barbara Campbell, of Calgary, passed away at the Foothills Hospital on September 6, 1997 at the age of 80 years. Born in Rosetown, Saskatchewan on February 20, 1917, he served in the Royal Canadian Air Force as a flying officer and flight instructor during World War II. After completing military service, Jack attended the University of British Columbia and graduated with a Business and Commerce degree in 1949. He joined the Hudson's Bay Company in Vancouver on May 2, 1942. In 1955 he was transferred to Calgary and retired from the Hudson's Bay Company in 1982. Jack was athletic all his life; he enjoyed hockey and skiing, but his first love was golf. In 1945 he married Barbara and they spent fifty-two years together. Besides his loving wife, Jack is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Gail and Steven Johnson, and Mary and Terry Gregoraschuk; and his four grandchildren, Ryan and Ashley Johnson, and Alix and Mackenzie Gregoraschuk, all of Calgary. (9/9/97) COPELAND _ Jessie (nee Mitchell) passed away September 8, 1997 at the Agape Manor Hospice at the age of 88 years. She was born September 16, 1908 at Mount Airy, Ohio and came to Calgary in 1911 and then moved to the Vulcan area with her family. In 1927, Jessie married Matthew McQuisten Copeland of Glasgow, Scotland and they moved to Calgary where she resided until her passing. Jessie was a thirty year member of Central United Church and a member of the Rebecca Lodge for many years. She was a long-time resident at the Jacques Lodge prior to her illness. Jessie was predeceased by her husband in 1972. She is survived by her daughters, Mary (Maisie) Thompson and Sheila (Cec) Jahrig of Calgary; her sisters, Mary Leonard of Lethbridge and Elma (Ford) Fisher of Cranbrook, B.C.; six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. (9/9/97) HENSON _ Mr. George William (Bill) Henson of Calgary, passed away on Friday, September 5, 1997 at the age of 84 years. Bill was born in Calgary on October 30, 1912. He led a very interesting and exceptional life. During the 1930's as a young man, Bill worked up north establishing Norman Wells. Leaving, he voluntarily enlisted in the Royal Canadian Naval Reserve, during World War II, where he was stationed in Halifax, attaining the rank of Chief Petty Officer. Bill returned to Calgary after the war to resume his career as a plumber with Fred Deeves and Sons and retired there at the age of sixty-five only to work another two years for M.H.G. at the Shell Plant in Pincher Creek. He always put his family first instilling the love of learning and reading to all his children and grandchildren. Bill was greatly loved and will be dearly missed by those he left behind. "Home is the hunter, home from the hills And the sailer home from the sea." He is survived by his beloved wife of fifty years, Fern (nee Mould); three children and their families, Lynn and Wayne Fauth, Jo-Anne, Ron, Marci, and Robbie Regambal, and Chuck, Bev, Candy and Aaron Henson. He is also survived by three sisters, two brothers and three sisters-in-law, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Born in Vancouver on November 13, 1928, Dan, beloved husband and best friend of Linda, was peacefully taken into God's care on the evening of September 6, 1997. For forty years, since 1957, Dan operated his own Sign Painting business, putting countless hours into a profession he truly enjoyed. He will be dearly missed by his daughters, Karen (Fong) Louie, Sandra (Randy) Carr of Calgary; his son Wayne (Sharon) of Fort McMurray; and his nine grandchildren. (9/9/97) MULDER _ Rudolf Johan Erick passed away after a lengthy illness September 6, 1997 at the Rising Sun Long Term Care in Black Diamond. Born April 28, 1911 in The Hague, Holland. Rudy was the third of four sons of Adrianus and Constance. Rudy grew up in the Dutch colony of Java where his father was the governor and spent his early years travelling the world with his family,. In 1925, when his father retired, the family immigrated to homestead in Millarville in 1982. Rudy was a life member of Corinthian #22 Lodge of Okotoks. Kanaskis held a life-long fascination for Rudy and he explored the area with pack horses capturing the early years with numerous photos, He continued to photograph the mountains, the community events and scenes of Red Deer Lake, Millarville and much of the world as he travelled extensively with his wife Selina,. Rudy delighted in showing slides on his giant screen, raising palomino horses and Hereford cattle and in attending community aurion sales, He si survived by his children: Constance Prentice (John), Calmar, Alberta; Joan Chapman (George), Okotoks; Bonnie Herriman (Darren), Millarville; and Douglas, Calgary. Six grandchildren: Heather, Maureen and Fergus Prentice; Alexis Chapman; Tonja and Ryan Brown. His brother, Fritho (lillias) Mulder, Calgary and cousin Katy Mulder, Holland. He was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Selina, on July 23, 1997; his brothers Erick, 1955 (Jessie, 1981) and Bert, 1963 (Kathleen, 1991). Russ was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia and at an early age moved with his family to Loyalist, Alberta. He later relocated to Wainwright before moving to Calgary in the mid 1950's. He operated three service stations in Calgary; a Texaco in Bowness, a Royalite and Phillips, both in Inglewood. Russ is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Fred and his wife Deborah, and their children, Tanis and Travis. He is also survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Jane Swan of Vermilion, Alberta; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. (9/9/97) VAILLANT _ Mr. Andre Jerry Joseph Vaillant passed away suddenly on September 6, 1997 as a result of a train accident in Carstairs, Alberta, at the age of 22 years, beloved son of Louise and Mike Kaszuba, and dear fiance of Courtney Thompson. He is also survived by his grandparents, Gerard and Helen Racine; his aunt Dione Lasalle; and his uncles, Andre Racine and Jacques Racine. (9/9/97) WALKER _ Mr. Andrew (Andy) Walker, of Calgary, passed away at the Peter Lougheed Hospital on September 6, 1997, at the age of 90 years. He is the loving father of Jean Walker of Calgary. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Anne Walker of Calgary, Viola Smith of High River; brothers-in-law, Donald (Madeline) Smith and Allan (Chrissie) Smith, all of High River. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Andy was predeceased by his wife Edna, and his brothers, George and Russell, sisters, Susan Cardiff and Isabel Benner. Andrew worked for Union Milk-Silverwood Dairies for fifty-one years until his retirement in 1972. Andrew was a member of Hillhurst United Church for many years. He was also a longtime resident of the Hillhurst District, and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Calgary Humane Society (1323 - 36 Avenue N.E., Calgary, Alberta, T2E 6T6).
