ANDERSON _ Mrs. Hazel Irene Anderson, beloved wife of Harold Anderson of Calgary, passed away suddenly at Central
Park Lodge on Tuesday, September 16, 1997 at the age of 79 years. Beside her husband, she will be lovingly remembered by
her children, son Gary Anderson of Vancouver; and her daughter Gail (Bob) Vandenberg of Calgary; as well as two
grandsons, Mark Vandenberg of Oklahoma and Craig Vandenberg of Calgary; one great-grandson Kyle Vandenberg; three
brothers, Clifford (Jean) Halverson

BROWN _ Thomas Rochester. On September 15, 1997, Mr. Thomas Brown of Edmonton passed away suddenly at home at
the age of 48 years. He leaves to mourn his loss, his loving wife Alexia; his son and daughter, Jason and Trina; and his stepson

BRUNER _ (Silliker) Mrs. Agnes Evelyn Bruner (nee Bruchall) of Calgary, passed away at the Rockyview Hospital on
September 16, 1997 at the age of 97 years. Beloved mother of Loraine (John) Hepburn, Peter (Gwynn) Bruner, John
(Martha) Bruner, Albert (Millicent) Silliker, Alberta (Dave) Shores, Madeleine (Jim) Ingram, Evelyn (Wayne) Dancey and
Franklin (Linda) Silliker. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren, Eileen, Sharon, Kathryn, Peter, Cindy, Slate,
Jodi-Lee, Jarrett, Cheryl, David, Aubrey, Kenneth, Stephen, Carolyn, Sheila and Christopher; as well as nine
great-grandchildren. Mrs. Bruner was predeceased by her husbands, Preston L. Bruner and Albert E. Silliker, her son Charles
W. Bruner and her grandsons, Christopher and Michael. Born in Mundare, AB, on August 16, 1900, she lived in Calgary most
of her life. At one time circa 1920's - 1930's, Mrs. Bruner's family owned and operated the original Noble Hotel. The Silliker

BURGESS _ Mr. John Burgess, dearly loved husband and best friend of Mrs. Gwendoline Burgess, passed away suddenly at
home on September 16, 1997. John was born on the fourteenth day of October, 1926 in Toronto, Ontario, the son of the late
John and Maria Burgess. He was an employee of Texaco Canada Inc. for forty-one years both in Toronto and Calgary. John
had a lifelong interest in wartime ship histories and World War II Convoy records, co-authoring "The Ships of Canada's Naval
Forces 1910 through 1993". John was the archivist at the Naval Museum of Alberta. His work involved research with the
Canadian Navy and the Naval Historical Branch in London, England. John was a longtime member of Grace Presbyterian
Church, on the Board of Managers, and Past Chairman of the Grace Housing Authority. A Memorial Service will be held at

CARMICHAEL _ Donald William, beloved husband of Mrs. Doreen Carmichael of Calgary, passed away at the Foothills
Hospital on September 15, 1997 at the age of 64 years. He is the loving father of one son and four daughters and four
sons-in-law, Patric Carmichael, Calgary, Deb Corneau (Stan), Calgary, Fay Tetsull (Mark), Calgary, Shanyn Poirier (Ken),

of Burlington, Ontario. He was predeceased by his parent, two brothers Paul and David. The love for his beloved wife Doreen
is immeasurable. His children and grandchildren were a continuous source of happiness, pride and comfort to him. We grieve
for a man who had so much yet to share with us, but we are cradled in the warmth of his love and all the joy he left with us. In

DINGWELL _ Alphonsus (Andy) passed away suddenly on Sunday, September 14, 1997 at the age of 59 years. Leaving to

DUNN _ Thomas Joseph, born in Glasgow, Scotland on December 2, 1919.
Thomas passed away at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary on September 13,
1997 at the age of 77 years. Thomas is survived by his sisters, Rosemary
(Jerry) Fleck, and Maureen (Alan) Branton, all of Sherwood Park; sisters-in-law,
Janine of Edmonton, Ruth (Arnold) Milman of Calgary, and Elsie (Dave) Sullivan
of Red Deer; his brother-in-law Rolf Gilberg of Calgary; as well as numerous
nieces and nephews, and their families. He was the very dear and special
friend to Mady of Calgary. Thomas will be missed by all of his neighbours
and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Anne, his parents, Thomas and
Elizabeth, his brothers, Michael and Bernard, his sister-in-law Vera Gilberg,

FITZMARTYN _ Mrs. Alice Gertrude Fitzmartyn (nee Noble) of Calgary, passed away at the Sarcee Nursing Home on
September 17, 1997, at the age of 84 years. Alice was very proud that she was born and educated in Calgary and resided
here all of her life. She was a founding member of St. Anthony's Parish and worked at the Credit Union for many years. She
will be fondly remembered by her son Dennis and his children, her daughter-in-law JoAnne, JoAnne's husband Tony Pozdin,
and her beloved grandson Bob Fitzmartyn. Alice is also survived by her sister Kay Fisher of Toronto, her sisters-in-law, June

HOWARD _ Helen "Louise" Howard (nee Akitt), loving mother of David and Nicholas of Calgary, passed away suddenly at
her residence on September 15, 1997 at the age of 49 years. Louise was born May 28, 1948 in Calgary and attended
Western Canada High School. Out of high school, she worked as an Optometric Assistant with her father for eleven years.
Louise always enjoyed rejuvenating the numerous old homes her family lived in here in Calgary. The most important thing in her
life was raising her two sons, and she supported their activities through much volunteer work. She also supported her former
husband's business activities, when she was able. Because of her love and dedication to her family she will always be
remembered. Besides her two sons, Louise is also survived by her parents, Helen and Don Akitt; her twin sister Donna Snell
and husband Fred and their children, Diana and Alexander. She is also survived by the father of her two sons, John Howard;
nieces and nephews, Quinn and Todd Davis, and Jamie, Jeff, Debbie, Lindsay, and Lisa Howard; cousin Jim Akitt of
Vancouver, B.C.; and her friend David Hildebrandt. Louise was predeceased by her Aunt Hope Akitt. Funeral Services will

IRVIN _ Mr. Thomas L. Irvin, beloved son of Shirley and father of Christopher of Calgary, passed away peacefully at his
residence on September 15, 1997 at the age of 43 years. Tom was born on May 14, 1954 in Wetaskiwin, Alberta. He was an
avid sportsman who loved fishing, hunting and horseback riding. Tom was a devoted father who was actively involved with
Chris' activities as a soccer coach and a cub leader. He was a small business owner who will be sadly missed. He is survived
by a brother and sister-in-law, Randy and Paula Irvin of Sherwood Park; a niece Donica; nephew Sean; and Christopher's
mother Reta. He is also survived by numerous other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his father Louis Thomas

JAMES _ Howard Wesley James passed away September 15, 1997 at the age of 81. Predeceased by his loving wife Gert in
June of 1996, Howard is survived by his son Allen (Jane) of Calgary; daughter Gwen Harris (Barry) of Victoria; brother Lloyd
(Joan) of Burnaby; sister Mabel Mash of Richmond; grandchildren, Todd and Ross Harris, and Christie and Curtis James; and
numerous nieces and nephews. Born in Biggar, Sask., Howard resided in Regina after his marriage to Gert (Stone) in 1940,
moving to Calgary in 1956 where he was well- known in the printing trade in Western Canada, retiring in 1978 to Malahat and

MARSHALL _ It is with great sadness James (Jim) Madden Marshall, beloved husband of Mrs. Marilyn Marshall of Calgary,
passed away peacefully at his daughter's residence on September 16, 1997, at the age of 71 years. Besides his loving wife of
forty-six years, Jim is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Laurie and Doug Murray and their children, Lyndsay and
Megan of Brandon, Manitoba; and Cindy and Jim Bertram and their children, Dan and Allie of Calgary, Alberta. Jim is
remembered with love and affection. He lived a simple life and took pleasure in small things. He loved the mountains, seasons,
his family, and grandchildren. There are many friends whose memories of Jim will always be treasured. He was a selfless

MORTON _ We are saddened by the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister on Tuesday, September
16, 1997. Muriel Kathleen was born April 14, 1922, the fifth of eight children of Owen and Mollie Craig of Vulcan, Alberta. In
1941, she became the young bride of Les Christensen. They farmed for several years in the Champion district where they
raised four children, Marilyn, Judy, Nancy and Keith. Kaye was always an active and valued contributor to community life in
Champion. Her love of music and young people led her to serve as long-time director of the United Church Junior Choir and as
leader of CGIT, Explorer and Sunday School groups. She also valued the camaraderie and support of her friends in the Felicity
Club. Later, she moved to Calgary and built a new career as a respected medical records administrator. In 1971, Kaye
married Arthur Morton. Together they have shared many happy years square dancing and traveling the world, and have
enjoyed the close friendship of their neighbors on Vancouver Crescent. The joy and pride Kaye had in her twelve
grandchildren and three great-grandchildren gave her much strength through her lifetime, and she never missed an opportunity
to participate in family activities. For this we remember her - she will always be our "Grandma Precious". A Memorial Service

NEESER _ Mr. Fred Neeser, of Okotoks, formerly of Airdrie, a past employee of C.A.D.P., passed away at the Rockyview
Hospital on September 17, 1997 at the age of 89 years. Fred is survived by his daughter Janet (Ted) Lineham of Okotoks; son
Glen (Ellen) of St. Albert; his grandchildren, Jeffrey, Wesley, Jennifer; and five step-granddaughters and their children;

PARKER _ William Arthur (Bill), passed away at his home in Victoria, B.C., in the loving company of his family, on Sunday,
September 14, 1997. Born in Springhill, Nova Scotia on July 11, 1923, he was raised in Calgary, Alberta and retired to
Victoria, B.C. Bill is lovingly remembered by his wife, June; sons, Stephen, Scott (Irene) and Spencer (Betty); daughter
Stephanie (Peter) Law; grandchildren, Tyler, Tessa and William; his sisters, Chickie and Joe, both of Calgary, Alberta;
sister-in-law Gloria McClean (Roy) of California; many nieces and nephews and specially remembered by Lily-Belle. Bill
enjoyed a memorable career both in the Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War and after graduating from

PAWSON _ Mr. Leslie Pawson of Calgary passed away after a brief illness at the Foothills Hospital on September 15, 1997
at the age of 91 years. Les is survived by is loving wife of sixty-three years, Hilda; his three sons, David (Doreen), Geoffrey
(Barbara) and Lloyd (Angie); nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and by his nephews, Ken (Jean) Pawson and John
(Joyce) Pawson. Les worked for Imperial Oil for forty-two years beginning as a machinist in 1927 and ending as the Assistant
Manager of the Calgary refinery. Following retirement in 1969, he accepted a series of consulting contracts across North
America including sites in Wyoming and Louisiana. A Funeral Service will be held at FOSTER'S FUNERAL HOMES
"Garden Chapel", 3220 - 4 Street N.W. on Friday, September 19, 1997 at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Wayne Lewry of Central

REDICK _ Roy Dean Redick of Airdrie, passed away suddenly on Sunday, September 14, 1997, at the age of 57 years.
Roy's life began in the small farming community of Maple Creek, Saskatchewan. He moved to Calgary as a young man and
began an association with the Ford Motor Company which would last for over thirty years. During this time, Roy earned many
awards for service quality and commitment to a job well done. His love of four wheel driving led him to a fond appreciation of
the environment and his involvement in its conservation. Roy's children regret not knowing that their father's time was so short
and that they were not able to spend more time enjoying life with him. He is survived by his mother Ella Redick of Maple
Creek; his common-law wife Marg Sharlow of Airdrie; three children, Kevin, Leslie (Stacey), and Deborah, all of Calgary, and
their mother Dorothy; four brothers, Lloyd (Verla) of Regina, Harve (Donna) of Maple Creek, and Glen (Mary) of Tucson,
Arizona, and Don of Calgary; and two young grandchildren, Rachel and Zachary Redick of Calgary. Roy was predeceased by
his father Clifford Redick. Funeral Services will be held at Maple Creek United Church, Maple Creek, SK, today, September
18, 1997 at 10:30 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Maple Creek Cemetery. A Memorial Service in Celebration of Roy's

RUTZER _ Mrs. Rosa B. Rutzer of Calgary, passed away at the Peter Lougheed Centre on September 16, 1997, at the age
of 79 years. Rosa practiced midwifery in Switzerland
for thirteen years during which time she delivered over one thousand, two
hundred babies in their homes. After immigrating to Alberta with her husband
and family, she was anxious to get back into her profession. She worked at
the Grace Hospital for twenty-four years until her retirement in 1979. Rosa
believed that the best way to have babies, was to be at home, by letting
nature take its course. She was a strong supporter of the Midwife Group in
Alberta. She was active in the Swiss Club Matterhorn, the Theatre Group Heimatstyl
and one of the founding members of the Dance Group Alpenrosli. "The death
of a person is not the time to weep, for they are gone and shall no more
return. It is time for rejoicing, for the Lord, our God, has brought His
child to sit by Him - forever. This is time for all to remember the pleasant
times that were shared between yourself and those departed. Do not be selfish
and wish them back. For they have gained what every human desires... Eternal
peace. She is the loving mother of three sons and two daughters-in-law, Arnold
and Marianne, Paul, Werner and Krista, as well as the beloved grandmother
of Sara and Tania, Corbet, Justin and Carson, all of Calgary. Rosa is also
survived by a sister Anna Bucher, and nieces and nephews in Switzerland.
She was predeceased by her husband Arnold in 1989. Relatives and friends
are invited to Prayers at St. Boniface Catholic Church (1923 Broadview Road
N.W.), today, September 18, 1997 at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated
at St. Boniface Catholic Church (1923 Broadview Road N.W.), on Friday, September
19, 1997 at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Henry Rosenbaum, S.A.C. Celebrant. Graveside
Service to follow in "St. Joseph's Section" at Queen's Park Cemetery. In

SZOTYLO _ Ellen Szotylo of Calgary, formerly of Edmonton, passed away at the Brentwood Nursing Home on September
15, 1997 at the age of 91 years. Ellen was born October 1, 1905 in the Ukraine and immigrated to Canada in 1907. Ellen is
survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Eleanor and William Chmilar of Calgary; and her son Herbert McNeill of Thompson,
Manitoba; six grandchildren, David, Shawna, Barbara, Lorraine, Beverly, Melody; and eleven great-grandchildren. She is also
survived by her daughter-in-law Elsie of Edmonton; two sisters, Myrtle Wilson, and Rose Neilson; her brother and
sister-in-law, Henry and Vera Pritula, all of St. Catharines, Ontario; as well as other family members. Ellen was predeceased
by her first husband William McNeill,
her second husband Julian Szotylo, and sons, Gordon and Ronald McNeill. Funeral
Services will be held at Christ Church (12166 - 102 Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta),
on Saturday, September 20, 1997 at 4:30 p.m. with the Rev. John Privett officiating.
