BELL _ Edith Bell of Calgary, passed away at the Peter Lougheed Centre on February 7, 1998. Edith was predeceased by her husband Jack in 1978. BLYTH _ Evelyn Victoria (nee Bertram), passed away at the Bethany Care Centre February 7, 1998 at the age of 88 years. CENDACH _ Mr. Sergio Cendach, beloved husband of Mrs. Maria Cendach of Calgary, passed away suddenly on Friday, February 6, 1998 on his 57th Birthday. Sergio was born February 6, 1941 in Zacchigni, Umago d'Istria, Italy (presently Croatia). He moved to Canada in 1962 and began working for C.P.R. in 1964, where he worked as a Car Man Inspector until his death. He married Maria in 1970 in Calgary. Besides his loving wife, Sergio is also survived by two sons, Elvis and his fiancee Rosanna Styner, and Frank, both of Calgary; his father Martin Cendak of Cittanova, Croatia; his sister and brother-in-law, Graziella and Luciano Zacchigna, and their two daughters and family, all of Croatia; brother and sister-in-law, Mario and Rosa Cendach of Penticton, and their two daughters and five nieces. He is also survived by Maria's parents, sister, brothers, nieces and nephews; as well as other relatives and friends. Sergio was predeceased by his mother, Maria Cendak. DALGETTY _ Mr. James William Dalgetty of Calgary passed away peacefully after a brief illness, at the Foothills Hospital on February 7, 1998 at the age of 73 years. He was predeceased by his wife Maxine in 1995. He is the loving father of two sons and one daughter-in-law, and one daughter and son-in-law, Brian of Canmore, Barrie and Tracey of Los Angeles, and Brenda and John Creasey of Calgary; three grandchildren, Michael, Richard and Jemma Creasey; and one great-granddaughter Emily Creasey, all of Calgary. He is survived by three brothers-in-law and their families, Gordon and Lila Bossenberry of Lethbridge, Gilbert and Mary Bossenberry, and Don and Janice Bossenberry, all of Salmon Arm; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Jim was a painting contractor for forty years until his retirement in 1985. Jim was a very caring and loving man who will be greatly missed by his family and all those who knew him. We love you Dad. GRAF _ Clara Naomi Graf of Kelowna, B.C. and formerly of Calgary, passed away in the Westside Care Center, Westbank, B.C. on Saturday, February 7, 1998. Mrs. Graf was born in Ringwood, Oklahoma on January 20, 1906 and recently celebrated her 92nd birthday. Predeceased by her husband Albert in 1990 and also by two grandsons. Mrs. Graf leaves to mourn her four children, Ernie (Jean) Fidgeon, Peachland, Rod (Dot) Fidgeon, High River, Alberta, Helen (Ray) Mountain, Kelowna, Gwen (Reg) Olson, Kelowna; and also fourteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. IRVINE _ Brian Robert Irvine passed away suddenly on February 7, 1998 doing exactly what he wanted, working with horses. Brian was born on December 5, 1936 in Whitewood, Saskatchewan and raised in the Tantallon area. As a young man, Brian found work on the railroad. Later he met his wife Laura in Minnedosa, and subsequently they married on August 25, 1956. Brian joined the Armed Forces in 1958 and was stationed in Calgary with the Queen's Own Rifles. Brian went on to achieve an award for driving one million miles accident free. In 1964, Brian was honorably discharged driving commercially throughout Western Canada. Brian's lifelong fascination with horses led him to move his family to the Crossfield area in 1972. Over the next twenty-five years, Brian vigorously built and improved his horse herd, specializing in Registered Foundation Quarter Horses. Brian's integrity, ability, and pure "horse sense" were renowned and respected by those who knew him. Many horseman in Canada and the United States will miss his outgoing nature and willingness to lend a helping hand. Brian was proud to hold lifetime memberships in the American Quarter Horse Association and the Foundation Quarter Horse Registry. Working with and improving the Quarter Horse breed was not only his first love, but his chosen life-long work. Brian was predeceased by his father Robert Irvine in 1957, mother Anne Kingdon in 1982, grandson Eric Irvine (in infancy) in 1985. Brian is survived by his loving wife of forty-one years, Laura; children, Sharon Marsh, Bonnie Harrison, Robert (Sylvia), Brian, Heather (Trevor) Gadd, Scott (Leanne), foster son David; sisters, Gwen Bromberg of Calgary, Mable Godwin of Tantallon; brother Lawrence Gavelin of Port Alberni. Brian was proud of his nineteen grandchildren who were a delight to him in the latter part of his life. Brian was instrumental in introducing the grandchildren to the horses. These same grandchildren possess Brian's humor, zest for reading and travel, not to mention a fascination with horses. JONES _ Michael Kevin Jones of Calgary, passed away suddenly on Friday, February 6, 1998 at the age of 39 years. Mike is survived by his daughter Rhea; and son Nathan of Blackie, Alberta; his mother Marie; sister Lori Kempe; brother-in-law Bert Kempe; nephew Michael; and nieces, Rhianne and Brittanii of Thorold, Ontario; his grandmother Helen Lesdow; and grandfather George of Hamilton, Ontario; as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins in Ontario and the U.S. He was predeceased by his much loved father Leonard in 1991. KELLY _ Alice Louise Kelly of Calgary, passed away at the Sarcee Nursing Home on February 9, 1998 at the age of 90 years. Alice was predeceased by her husband Fred in 1970. Alice was born in Schenectady, New York, and was a longtime resident of the Peace River country. Alice lived in McLennan from 1940 to 1972 and moved to Nanaimo, British Columbia for sixteen years, then moved to Grande Cache for eight years and spent her last remaining years in Calgary. Alice was an active member of the community and the Church. Alice is survived by a daughter Joan Beland and her husband Victor of Grande Cache; a son Gordon and his wife Shirley of Calgary; eight grandchildren, Marc and his wife Wanda, Michel and his wife Jillian, Nicole and her husband Lorne Ternes, Paul and his wife Lorraine, Stephen, Christine, Greg and his wife Janice, and Karen and her husband Wade Smith; and thirteen great-grandchildren. LACKIE _ Thomas (Tom) Hall passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, February 7, 1998 at the age of 79 years. Service of Remembrance will be held at St. Martin's United Church, 2617 Clarence Avenue, February 11, at 3:00 p.m., Reverend Brian Watson will be officiating. Tom is survived by his sons, Hal (Beverly), Graeme and Alison; Gord (Nancy), Kyle and Melissa; Colin (Jan), Brianna, Nathan and Caileigh; and Jamie (Nancy), Kara and Amy; and sister Mary. He was predeceased by his first wife Ada in 1975, his second wife Nan in 1997 and son Craig in 1995. Tom was born on August 21, 1918 in the north end of Winnipeg, MB. Dad proudly served overseas in Italy, Belgium and Holland during World War II with the 17th Field Regiment R.C.A. He renewed many memories in 1995 when he returned to Holland for the 50th Anniversary Celebrations of the end of the war. He was a professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Saskatchewan from 1960 through to his retirement in 1985. He enjoyed his relationships with students and faculty and, through his professional life, developed friends throughout the world. His sense of community led to his involvement with the YMCA, St. Martin's Church, Scouts, Saskatoon District Health Board, Meewasin Valley Authority, and many professional associations. His love of learning led him to continue to take courses on a wide variety of topics at the university during retirement. Dad loved to travel, often venturing off the beaten track, enjoying people as much as the locale. Dad developed, maintained and cherished many friendships over the course of his life. He particularly enjoyed time spent with the "Curling Gang", Y's Men and at the Y. He relished summers spent at Falcon Lake, MB at the cottage he built forty years ago. One of his great enjoyments was time spent with his grandchildren and supporting them in their activities. LaROSE _ Senator Thomas William LaRose was born December 1, 1926 in Manitoba and passed away in Calgary on February 7, 1998 at the Foothills Hospital, after a long illness. He is survived by his loving wife of forty-five years, Emma (Mary) LaRose. He is survived by nine children and spouses, Rose LaRose (Peter), Tony LaRose (Kathy), Lorraine LaRose (Brian), Doris Jacobs (Joe), Geraldine Normand (Sam), Kathleen Barker (Frank), Elinor Hache (Rudy), Aleric LaRose (Gina) and Sharlene Carlson (Bill), all of Alberta. Tom is also survived by five sisters, Reta, Mae, Julia, Doreen, Theresa; twenty-five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and many friends and relatives who loved him. He was predeceased by his eldest son Martin LaRose and his sister Leona Leaming. Tom served proudly as a Senator for the Metis Nation from 1994 to 1996. He is loved dearly and will be sorely missed by all who knew him. LOEWEN _ Jacob J. Loewen of Airdrie, passed away at 68 years of age, after a brief but courageous fight against cancer at the Peter Lougheed Hospital in Calgary. He is survived by his loving wife Mildred; sons, Ron (Anne), Ted (Deb) of Calgary, and Tim (Diana) of Edmonton; daughters, Laryne (Hart) of Calgary, and Marlene of Windsor, Ontario. He will also be dearly missed by his step-children, Jean (Eddie) of Brooks, Donald (Pat) of Bassano, Linda (Arnold) of Strathmore, Carol (Bob) of Standard; fourteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Jake was born in the Soviet Union on January 15, 1930 and came to Canada at Coaldale, Alberta in 1950. Jake was employed at Barber Machinery and later Weatherford Compression for the past forty-three years. MJOLSNESS _ Lloyd Granum Mjolsness, born September 7, 1916 at Sundre, Alberta passed away peacefully on February 7, 1998, surrounded by his loving family and the caring nursing staff at The Beverly Centre. Lloyd was loved and cherished by Mary, his best friend and wife of fifty-four years; daughter Marilyn (Brian) Will; daughter Gail Howat and Wes Martin; son Bob (Elaine); and grandchildren, Carter (Stacey) and Riley Will, Derek, David and Darcy Howat, Jason (Susan), Candace and Marina Grey; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. He is survived by his brother Chester (Martha) of Bottrel, Alberta; and his sister Gladys Thomas of Calgary; and special aunt Thora Matkin of Carstairs, Alberta. Predeceased by his youngest sister Marion Chidlow in 1994. Lloyd attended school at McDougal Flat. After losing his father at age 14, he assumed responsibility with his Mother on the family farm. Lloyd led a full and active life. He and Chester shared interests in grain farming, operating as M & M Farming Co. in southern Alberta and Saskatchewan. They also had years of harmonious partnership in the lumber industry, operating as Mjolsness Bros. Ltd. at Sundre and Spray Lakes Sawmills at Canmore and Cochrane. As a loving husband, father and grandfather, Lloyd was highly respected by his family, and he cared deeply for them in return. He will be remembered for his honesty, integrity, sensitivity and generosity - touching everyone he met in a special way. Lloyd valued simplicity, the work ethic and sincerity. MUNKHOLM _ Mr. Milton Munkholm of Okotoks, passed away at the Vulcan Extendicare on February 5, 1998 at the age of 86 years. Milton was born in Warrens, Wisconsin on April 21, 1911. His family returned to their homestead at Milo in that same year. They eventually moved to High River, and then to Okotoks in 1927. He worked as a farm hand and derrick builder in the Okotoks and Turner Valley area. Milton moved back to the farm in Okotoks in 1945 where he resided until his retirement. He was predeceased by his wife Florence, his parents, one sister and four brothers. Milton is survived by his sons, Jim (Ardath) of Longview, Gordon (Eleanor) of Cochrane; his daughter Mary (Bob) Strang of Regina; and by twelve grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. PAGENKOPF _ Mr. Werner Klaus (Walter) Pagenkopf, beloved husband of Mrs. Karla Birgit (Peggy) Pagenkopf of Calgary, passed away at the Foothills Hospital on Friday, February 6, 1998, after a brief and unexpected illness at the age of 57 years. Walter was born on January 8, 1941 in Gumbinnen, East Prussia (Germany), the youngest of five boys. When he was twelve, Walter, his mother and brothers came to Canada and settled in the Medicine Hat area. In 1957 Walter's family moved to Calgary where he later attended the U of C, graduating in 1966 with his B.Sc. Walter married Birgit Keudel in July 1964 and together they raised a family of three children. He worked in the Oil Industry for over twenty-five years, mainly for Canadian Superior Oil and Mobil Oil, retiring in 1992. Besides his loving wife, Walter is survived by two sons and a daughter, Cort and his wife Bettina of Edmonton, Monika, and Peter of Calgary. He is also survived by his brothers, Armin (Gerda) of Kelowna, Hans (Ingrid), Erhard (Ursula), all of Calgary; and many other family members in Calgary and Germany. He was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Maria, and his eldest brother Dieter. Walter was first and foremost a devoted family man. He will be lovingly remembered as one who lived according to his own principles of loyalty and honesty. Walter was deeply philosophical, with a wonderful sense of humor and left a lasting impression with all who knew him. ROWE _ Carl Henry formerly of Warner, Alberta, passed away at the Fanning Care Centre on February 6, 1998 at the age of 72 years. Carl is survived by six children, Irvine, (Carol) Rowe, Carla (Larry) Wenzel, Cheryl (Allen) Ross, Brian (Maryanne) Rowe, Cornell Rowe and Robert Rowe. He is also survived by five grandchildren and a sister. Carl was predeceased by his wife Ethel in 1993. At Carl's request no Services will be held. TAMAGI _ William Yoshiharu passed away peacefully on February 5, 1998. Bill was born May 11, 1918 in Raymond, Alberta. He leaves behind to mourn his passing, his wife of fifty-three years, Harriette; eldest daughter Donna and Jim Cartwright of Langley; eldest son Donald and Darlene of Calgary; daughter Sachi of Magna Bay; son Paul and Leslie of Calgary; seven grandchildren, Nicole, Darby, Jamie, Marnie, Shara, Sarah and Theo; as well as extended family and many dear friends. He spent five years in the Salvation Army, served seven years as Minister of Coaldale United Church, followed by two years in Lethbridge with the Canadian Japanese Mission. Bill was called to Hawaii in 1955 where he and his family spent eight years at Makiki Christian Congregational Church in Honolulu. In 1963 he returned to Calgary to join his brothers in the family business Bridge Brand Food Services Ltd. He was very active and instrumental in the growth of the business until he retired in 1988. Bill was very proud of the professional recognition received after being inducted into the Food Service Hall of Fame. He was also made an Honorary Lifetime Member of the Alberta Restaurant and Food Service Association (ARFA). Bill and Harriette moved to Scotch Creek, B.C. (on Shuswap Lake) in October 1994 where they have enjoyed the warmth and beauty of the area and visits from family and friends. Bill was a very loving, compassionate man who lived by Christian values while gently mentoring, counseling and sharing his life unselfishly. At the soul of his life was the worship of God and experiences he cherished with family and friends. He will also be remembered for his passion for golf, gin rummy and find food. As active members of Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club for thirty years, Bill and Harriette developed numerous friendships to share these experiences with. Bill is one of God's humble children who made a profoundly positive difference in both his personal and business life and to all those he so deeply touched. THRALE _ Lorena June Thrale (nee Torrance), passed away suddenly at her home in Carstairs on February 8, 1998. She is survived by her six children, George, Robert, Richard, Roger, Caroline, Jeffrey; sixteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. June was born in Manitoba, June 4, 1916 and farmed in Manitoba until 1960. She resided in Manitoba and Saskatchewan before coming to Calgary in 1967. She retired in Carstairs in 1974. June was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Carstairs, Branch No. 53 for many years, as well as being a participant in many other community activities. June's first love was her children, but her second love was her art. She leaves a colorful legacy particularly for her family, but also for all those that knew and loved her. WATT _ Mrs. Elaine Muriel Watt of Calgary, passed away at the Glenmore Park Auxiliary Hospital on February 6, 1998 at the age of 62 years. WORDIE _ Gordon Wilson. On February 4, 1998, Mr. Gordon Wilson Wordie of North Battleford, Saskatchewan, passed away peacefully at the age of 70 years. YEE _ Big Har (May) Yee of Red Deer, beloved wife of Wah Hon (Tony/Shorty) Yee, passed away peacefully in Calgary on February 8, 1998 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born March 8, 1933 in Kwantung, China, May came to Canada in 1956 and married Tony that same year in Calgary. Two weeks after the marriage, May and Tony moved to Red Deer where they have since resided and raised their family. In 1973, May and Tony started a family restaurant, the Valley Hotel Restaurant, and successfully operated the family business and established many special friendships for twenty years before retiring in November 1993. Besides her caring husband, May will forever be the loving mother to three daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Jo and Tim Blakely of Edmonton, Lois and Gene Andersen of Red Deer, Sharon and Ross Sisson of Calgary; two sons, Ken Yee of Calgary, and Harold Yee of Philadelphia. Not only a proud mother to her five children, May was a special loving grandmother to three grandsons, T.J., Trevor and Desmond. May is also survived by two sisters, Lee Shun Chu in Hong Kong, Penny Wing of Sunnyvale, California; and a brother Gary Lee of Vancouver.
