ANDERSON _ Joan Patricia Anderson (nee Bowles), beloved wife of Art (Scotty) Anderson of Calgary, passed away at the Foothills Hospital on Wednesday, February 4, 1998 after a lengthy illness at the age of 76 years. ARCHIBALD _ Mr. Ralph Guy Archibald, passed away suddenly on February 6, 1998 at the Rockyview Hospital at the age of 76 years. He leaves to mourn, his wife Doreen; his son Dresdin of Edmonton; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Ida Virtue of Devon and Courteen Brodner, and Byron of Calgary. Ralph was predeceased by his parents, Ida and Lewis Archibald, two brothers, Lewis and James, a sister Gladys and a son Warren. Ralph was born in Nanton, Alberta, January 26, 1922. The family moved to Turner Valley in 1929, where he received his education prior to four years service as a Cpl. in the R.C.A.F. instructing Aircraft Recognition at the No. 2 Wireless School. After the war he resumed working for Imperial Oil in Turner Valley before being sent to Provost to help in the Exploration of new oil fields. It was there that he met his wife Doreen. The next eight years were spent working on the drilling rigs, moving from town to town starting in Leduc in January of 1947. In 1954 he made the decision to settle down, this also brought about a career change to the Safety Department of the Oil Field. They settled in Calgary employed by Shell Canada Resources from 1955 to 1977. In 1972 he was appointed as Serving Brother in the Order of St. John of Jerusalem. After retiring from Shell he formed his own Safety Consulting firm specializing in working safe in an H2S environment. ARNOTT _ Lloyd Hampton Arnott. It is with great sorrow that his loving wife, Pat Tinevez-Arnott announces his passing, Friday, February 6, 1998 at Glenmore Park Carewest. His memory will always be cherished by Pat and his extended Tinevez' family who were privileged to surround him with care and love throughout his illness. Lloyd handled the difficult stages of cancer with his inherent patience and dignity. Both Lloyd and Pat were especially appreciative of the excellence of care given by the staff at Glenmore; also for the love and concern of special nieces and nephews, Lois and Ted Washington, and Les and Sophie Sedgewick and for all the cards, prayers and flowers from family and friends. Lloyd is survived by his sister Myrtle of Strasbourg, Sask. He was predeceased by his sister Evelyn and also by his first wife Annie Herman in 1986. Their daughter Charlotte Lynn survives. Lloyd was born in Saskatchewan. He farmed in the Kenaston and Govan areas, retiring to Calgary in the 1970's. He served in World War II with the Regina Rifle Regiment for two years in Europe, ending in Germany in 1945. He was a member of the Canadian Legion Branch 285. Members of the Legion will participate in the Memorial Service. Lloyd's request for cremation has been honored. BAGLEY _ Nina Olive, born in Lacombe, Alberta on September 20, 1905, passed away peacefully in the presence of her loving family at the Rockyview Hospital on February 5, 1998 at the age of 92 years. Predeceased by her sister Tess MacPhail, and by brothers, Earl Bagley, Jim Bagley and Dude Bagley. Nina will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by all the lives she touched throughout her years as a mother, grandmother and friend. She is survived by her son William Bagley and family of Toronto, Ontario; by her brother Bill Bagley of Cochrane; by her grandson Allan; granddaughter Alanna; great-grandchildren, Damien, Ryan, Nicholas and Dylan; by niece Beth Chatten; and nephew Bruce Bagley of Bowmanville, Ontario; by her great-niece Denise Trotz; and by great-great-nephew Joel Trotz. Nina was a teacher and worked throughout Alberta. In 1972 she retired in Brooks, AB. Nina was also known for her love of music, dancing, horses and ranching. BRAUN _ Marie Emilie (nee Stadel) passed away on February 5, 1998. Marie was born in Neudorf, Saskatchewan on May 9, 1912. She enjoyed sewing, petit-point and authored the "Stadel Family Geneology Book." CHOW _ Mr. Shu Sam (Sam) Chow of Calgary, passed away at the Peter Lougheed Hospital on February 6, 1998 at the age of 85 years. Mr. Chow was born October 25, 1915 in Zhoushan, Zhejiang, China. He immigrated to Calgary from Hong Kong in 1973. He is the loving father of a son and daughter-in-law, Koming and Lovenda; a daughter and son-in-law, Mei Chu and Chang An Chi; four grandchildren and a great-grandchild, all of Calgary. He was predeceased by his wife Ngan Fa. COUCH _ Roderick Gordon, passed away peacefully February 6, 1998 at the age of 63 after a short battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his family, loving wife Penny; daughter Heather Brown; sons, Gordon, Warren (Emilie) and Bob (Arlene). He was loved by stepsons, Darrin (Tammy) Gabel and Brad (Terri) Gabel. Rod is also survived by his loving sisters, Jeannine Howie of Swift Current, Sask. and Sandra (Doug) Nicholson of Singapore. He was blessed with many wonderful grandchildren, Ryan, Jess, Amy, Logan, Jaryd, Dylan, Samantha and Bretton. His stepmother Eileen Couch of Olds will also miss him dearly, as will Marie Couch and his many extended family members and wonderful circle of friends. Rod was predeceased by his mother Marjorie Hutchison, his father Howard Couch, and an infant daughter Selena. Rod graduated from the University of Saskatchewan Law School in 1958 and came to article in Calgary where he continued working in the profession he loved, most recently with Sugimoto & Company. He was an active member of the Calgary Elks Club, Calgary Curling Club, and the Royal Canadian Legion No. 284. A special thanks to all the staff at Unit 57 of Tom Baker Cancer Centre, and especially Joanne, for all their kindness and support. Hilda was born and raised in Calgary, moving to Kathyrn in 1945 where they framed until retiring to Calgary in 1981. She will be remembered for her crafts and her love of traveling with family. PERRY _ Mr. Kenneth Andrew Perry, beloved husband of Mrs. Olga Perry of Calgary, passed away at the Foothills Hospital on February 7, 1998 at the age of 73 years. Ken was born on April 20, 1924 in Highmore, South Dakota. He moved to Mantario, Saskatchewan with his family in 1929, then later moving to Amos, Quebec. In Newmarket, Ontario, Ken attended Pickering College where he graduated and then directly joined the Air Force. He served overseas for four years, then moving to Calgary in 1946. Ken and his brother Bob purchased "King George Grocery" in 1947. In 1955, Ken and Olga married and began their family in 1956 with the birth of their son Bill. In 1979 Ken retired from the family business. Besides his loving wife, Ken is survived by a son Bill Perry; and a brother Robert Perry, both of Calgary. He is also survived by his nephew Paul Buckley of Vancouver, and numerous cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Lewis (Bill) and Adaline Perry. RILEY _ Phyllis Margaret "Grammie", aged 96 years, widow of the late Dr. R.C. Riley, passed away peacefully at the Southwood Nursing Home on February 5, 1998 at 12:10 a.m. She leaves behind her children, Pat (Jack) Waite, Bob (Eleanor) Riley and Charles Riley; her grandchildren, Rory (Wendy), Riley (Erin), Megen (Bart) de Nooy, Tyrone (Jennifer) and Sean (Jessica); great-grandchildren, Nolan, Aidan and Darrel (Sandy) Forsythe. Grammie was born in 1901 at Picton, Ontario. She attended school at the Convent of St. Aune de Belleview, Quebec. At sixteen, she entered the University of Toronto and upon graduation in 1923 was awarded the gold medal for languages. She was married September 2, 1927 at Hart House, the year they came west, first to Regina, Weyburn and Calgary in 1938. She lived a good, eventful, long life including two presidencies with the University Women's Club, a Life Time Member of the Trail Riders of the Canadian Rockies, a Life Time Member of the Skyline Hikers of the Canadian Rockies. She was a longtime member of the Alliance Francaise of Calgary and she loved the mountains, and the "little house" in Banff where she spent many summers after 1941. We wish to thank all the caregivers of the Southwood Nursing Home for the many years "Grammie" was there being so tenderly looked after. SIMMONDS _ Cherry Hilda Roberts Simmonds of Calgary, passed away on Saturday, February 7, 1998 at the age of 73 years. She is the dear mother and mother-in-law of Alan and Gae Simmonds, and Gae's daughter Loni, of Calgary; Holly and Clint Sullivan of Melfort, Saskatchewan; and David and his fiancee Jacquie of Calgary. TUCKER _ Mabel Priscilla Tucker (nee Rogers), beloved wife of the late Wm George Tucker of Calgary, passed away at the Intercare/Chinook Care Centre on February 7, 1998 after a brief illness at the age of 97 years. Mabel was predeceased by her husband George in 1981, her parents, Elizabeth and Wm John Rogers, and all brothers and sisters, Helena, Ernie, Willie, Edith, Howard and Clarence. Mabel is lovingly survived by her two children, Cliff (Audrey) Tucker of St. Catharines, Ontario and Norma (Mac) James of Calgary; five grandchildren, Debra Tucker, Jeffrey Tucker, Wendy (Tim) Purcer, Ian (Susan) James and Karen (Darwin) Haeh; five great-grandchildren, Jarad and Carley Stiles, Carson Tucker, Tyson Haeh and Andrew Purcer. WEGEN _ Else passed away peacefully on Friday, February 6, 1998 at the age of 61 years. She was surrounded at home by her loving husband Adolf and their son Bernd. WHITEHEAD _ Mrs. Marlene (Marnie) Elizabeth Whitehead, on February 6, 1998, angels came to carry our beloved Marnie to a better place. She will be remembered forever in our hearts until we meet again. She will be sadly and forever missed by her loving husband Ron; children, Jaime, Leslie, Steven; stepdaughter Tamara; brother Ken; half-brothers and half-sisters, Robert (Trudy) Mackie, Len (Linda) Mackie, Dick (Rita) Mackie and Jean (Jack) Littlejohn; special aunts and uncle, Maysie Macdonald, Jean Budge and Bob (Winnie) Budge; mother-in-law Norma Whitehead; brothers-in-law, Don (Debbie) Whitehead, Laurie (Linda) Whitehead; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends. Marnie enjoyed doing crafts which adorn our house, as well as many other households. She was involved with the Chinook Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, Blockwatch Program, and various Parent Advisory Councils and School Councils throughout the years. WIEBE _ Abram Frank, beloved husband of Eleanor of Calgary, passed away suddenly at the Peter Lougheed Hospital on February 6, 1998, two weeks shy of his 64th birthday. Abram is the loving father of Darcy Wiebe of Calgary, Patty (Santo) Infusino of Calgary, and Karen (Brad) Hagemann of Rimbey; and the loving grandfather of Jeremy Infusino. He is also survived by two brothers, John (Jackie) and Herman (Slim); father-in-law Alfred Hartfil; and grandmother Toews; as well as numerous family and friends. Abram is predeceased by his son Patrick, parents, Marie and Henry Wiebe, brothers, Norman and Arman (Tiny) and special niece Nicole Rempel. Dad was born in Three Hills, February 22, 1934. He spent the majority of his life in Calgary working for Lafarge Construction until his passing. He will be sadly missed by all and remembered with love. Special thanks to the I.C.U. team who tried to save him, Dr. Martin Atkinson who looked after him for twenty years and Dr. Brian Burkhart who tried to improve his quality of life.
