The Man Who Would Be King (Maybe) . Superintendent Marshall, received the other day, A request from Ian Millman, for a major raise in pay. Ian had applied to, take over Marshall's spot, While Bill was contemplating, having Ian shot. . Now Ian Millman, piper, was taking so much time, Attending pipe band functions, instead of fighting crime, That Bill sent out a memo, in the daily mail, Suggesting maybe, Millman, should be transferred to the jail. . But Ian had his own plan, he thought he would apply, To be the new Bill Marshall, he was reaching for the sky. Ian had decided, he could take both jobs in hand, Commanding patrol division, with time to run the band. . The application went in, ascending up the chain, It went all the way up to the top, and racing back again. The reply was tersely worded, quoting Ian from his past, "Send a supervisor? this guy has breathed his last." . The thing that really hurt him, he was the acting boss, It now came back to haunt him, this application was a loss. But maybe, it should be considered, Ian in the spot, The request is not so silly, if you stop and give a thought. . He could keep his rank of Sergeant, cutting down on paper flow, For now his applications, would have nowhere else to go. The buck could stop with Ian, instead of going on, Then Bill could take some time off, to stretch out with a yawn. . But enough of this pure silliness, we wait with bated breath, Another round, in this war of words, a fight right to the death. Or when boredom overtakes them, the paper flow will stop, Then you and I already know, which one comes out on top. . PC 664 T.J. Gowdyk 870429 (40) RETURN TO INDEX OF POEMS
