HOW TO BUILD A HOMEPAGE, DRAGON STYLE

STEP ONE: REGISTER FOR A WEBSITE

Register an account name on hosts like members.tripod.com ( or geocities, xoom, fortunecity, angelfire--these are websites that will host your website for free. They will give you 5-15MB of harddisk space for free ) so you could get your website, login name and password change your password at once on your host's  webpage login so you would never 4get it (you will need to do this at once because they will assign you, by default, some greeky password like xx325vGjqm which you will never remember if you didn't write it down or save it.)

    You have two other options:
1)Your Internet Service Provider has probably allocated you free webspace but most probably, don't rely on it.  Especially if you're from the Philippines, they would give you only 1-5MB of harddisk space--you will find out later on that this is not enough.
2)You want your own URL.  This means that you do not want  free hosts like tripod to host your site, and the name which will appear after www will be your name (www.yoursite.com) instead of riding on to your host's  website name (members.tripod.com/~dragon39).  If you want this option, you will have to register the domain name somewhere ( I don't know where 8D).  The cost is something like $200 for two years. If you could afford paying for a website, then you could probably hire your own webmaster/developer and you wouldn't need this page.

WHY YOU NEED TO HAVE A HOST IF YOU WANT A WEBSITE
Imagine creating  a simple document in your own PC at home, complete with text and pictures.  An HTML document is mostly like your simple document, with the BIG difference that other people from their own PC's could view your document if it is uploaded to a website.   Roughly put, you will need to transfer your document and other related files like pictures and media from your own PC's hard disk, to your host's hard disk (which is online 24 hours a day) so the public could view your creation ALL AT THE SAME TIME without having to call you to turn on your home PC.

STEP TWO: GETTING YOUR HTML EDITOR
HTML stands for HyperTextMarkupLanguage or something like that.

Please buy your own html editor like FrontPage (very user friendly because if you know how to drag, drop, cut and paste, you are virtually on your way!). Or you could download   fp98beta from this site:

http://www.nackademin.nacka.se/internt/support/trial/index.html
There are FIVE files to download from this site, and each file is about 3-5MB. You will need all files for extraction later. Sometimes, downloading a huge  file may take long, and your downloading may be interrupted or cut-off. It used to be quite frustrating to start downloading the same file over again. NOT ANYMORE! Now, you could resume broken downloads with a program called GETRIGHT!!!

DOWNLOAD GETRIGHT 3.02 NOW!!(700+KB)

other possible sites you could download frontpage98beta from:
http://www.inf.tu-dresden.de/~hg1/toolbox/download/internet/web-designer/frontpage/
http://www.taiwanese.com/personal/diao/

You could use this effective search engine below to find more sites you could download from:

Type It. Click It. Find It!

READ THIS IF YOU DOWNLOADED/ INSTALLED FP98BETA

after completely downloading the program, install it in your computer.
YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO RUN THE FP98BETA YET if that is what you downloaded.
You will FIRST need to download the crack (click here to download).   After downloading the crack, unzip the fpcrack.zip file in your Program Files/ Microsoft Frontpage/bin subdirectory.  This will patch your program so it will not expire, so you will be able to run it. (This is easier than it looks, you can do it).
Now, you're ready to start.

Other important CD Keys in case you need them:
Microsoft frontpage cd key 8067-5163006
Microsoft frontpage 97 0201-4230000 or 0301-6231567
Ms frontpage 98 3.01 beta 8123-0123512 Key: 8067-4039161 Key: 9978-3492547
Ms frontpage 98 upgrade cd 3124-0000597
Ms frontpage 98: 9978-3492547

WHY YOU NEED AN HTML EDITOR
Actually, if you're a nerd and you want things done the hard way, you may skip the procedure of getting an html editor and do everything meticulously with a simple notepad or wordpad.  You would have to learn all those tag lines, symbols, etc, and other commands that would indent your paragraph, insert pictures, etc.   Click on your browser's View/Source option to know what kind of geeky commands I'm talking about.  Then you'll know that large megabytes of html editors are worth it.

   STEP THREE: FILE TRANSFER PROTOCOL
        FILE TRANSFER PROTOCOL

This is the program which will enabe you to UPLOAD data from your PC's hard disk, to your allocated free (or paid for) webspace.

You will need a good ftp software like cuteftp.
DOWNLOAD CUTEFTP NOW!!(800+KB)

the left side of the lower window is YOUR HOME PC's  hard disk in your house
the right side of the lower window is YOUR TRIPOD(or other host) webspace probably in another country somewhere
you can treat the RIGHT upload window as your regular hd space, meaning, you can make directories folders.
