My Jal Experience
by Sid Starnes

When I was a young man the age of sixteen,
I experienced the changing of my home scene.

Yes, I had to pack up and leave my best pal,
for EPNG had decided to move my family to Jal.

Most of us have experienced the trauma of moving,
and can readily identify the process is less than soothing.

Now I had lived in many a dusty little town,
but my initial Jal Experience allowed me to only frown.

Needless to say the high school I left in El Paso,
had a larger population than Jal could ever round-up or lasso.

It would be an understatement to say I was apprehensive and forlorn,
but much to my surprise I found Jal High to be quite open and warm.

I will be ever thankful of my Jal Experience,
which in truth could be described as my deliverance.

To this day I still draw strength from my Jal upbringing,
where I first learned the lifetime art of sharing, caring, and the expression of feeling.
